Now, back to the open water *SCREECHING HALT* to fix our seacock that is seized and leaking water. A consistent dripping of water into the boat. Tucked into a little corner off of Sarasota Bay is the boatyard that comes recommended from our boating friends. Add a barge entering right behind us, and you get a very intense arrival. While the boat is out of the water to replace the seacock we decide to get a new bottom paint job, replace the zinc on our shaft, and repaint the propeller. The boatyard, NE Taylor Boatworks, was awesome and they had the work completed and Dodi back in the water in less than a week. The boat is finally in tip top shape, however our wallets have taken a hit. We feel optimistic about our future adventures but will need to get creative to continue our journey. That's The Boat Life! It seems like a mountain of impossibilities, never in my life would I have imagined: 1. I'd drive a dinghy 5 miles out into the open ocean. 2. I'd be comfortable enough to jump into the deep abyss and just start swimming. 3. I'd get to watch a massive humpback whale swim right up and look into my soul (and nearly touch my camera with his nose). I know some people will feel strongly about this vid, but you should know we had conversations with several whale tour operators, the FP government and the whale protection agency. We did our research and have written approval before we attempted to swim with Humpback Whales without a guide. At this time 2018/2019 it is legal to swim with the whales in French Polynesia from a private boat...as long as you understand and follow the rules, but most importantly they want you to respect the whales. I truly hope you enjoy this adventure. I (Jason) invested about 3x as many hours as I should have in the video edit, and Nikki scoured through 3000+ images to narrow it down for the article on our site. Under the command of Samuel Dealey, Harder quickly became one of the most effective American submarines of World War II. But a fateful mission in 1944 cut her career tragically short. Because all work and no play make Jason and Nikki a dull couple. Along the journey, we meet a local boy who decides to not only be our guide but our film director too. Then, it's back to the boat restoration and getting our home livable again. The scrubbing continues as does the next big project: our diesel tanks. We knew our port side fuel tank was pitting and was in need of repair/replacement but we thought our starboard tank was ok. You get pretty laid back after four years of sailing. By now we’ve had plenty of close calls and nothing serious has ever happened. Well, this crash scared the bejesus out of us! It was loud. It was sudden. And our minds immediately jumped to the worst case scenario; A massive jagged gaping hole that is not easily repaired or pluggable. Indonesia has very few haul out facilities especially for catamarans. So few that the consequence would be limping to Singapore or Malaysia some 500 miles away.
