We are still struggling with depth issues and excessive weeds both on and below the surface. We managed to get out of the slip for a nice sail after dodging floating and submerged mats of weeds but not without issues. We towed a large patch of weeds out of the harbor. Once we cleared the channel we had to back down to clear the weed patch from the keel and rudder. But we did make it out and had an enjoyable day on the water. We hope you enjoy the video. In this episode, I repair the tilt function on my 2019 Torqeedo 1103C electric outboard. Multiple welds on the tilt lever failed making the outboard difficult to lock in the tilted (up) position. The lever would either fail to lock or get jammed when lowering the outboard. I ordered the replacement part direct from Torqeedo for $21 USD. Installation was easy and only took a few minutes. This week, American Sailor co-host Whitney Kent sits down with US Sailing colleague and friend Betsy Alison. Betsy has worked at US Sailing for nearly two decades, currently leading the Adult Sailing department. She is a five time Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year winner and has dominated an array of different boat classes throughout her professional career. Betsy coached the most successful Paralympic sailing team of all time. In an ironic turn of events for the Hall of Fame racer, Betsy became a para athlete in 2022 after a battle with cancer. Shortly after her recovery, she was standing on top of the podium in the Netherlands at the 2023 Sailing World Championships with a gold medal around her neck.
