Sailing to paradise: A trip to the ultimate island resort MUSKET COVE | SV MariaNoa | #143e Sailors love to drop anchor in secluded bays and experience the world where no one else can go. Life can be spartan at times due to a lack of supplies, sleep is patchy in wind and swell, and movement is often restricted. So it's no surprise that we sailors don't turn down the chance to share the comfort and luxury of a vacation resort with other tourists, but welcome it with open arms. In most resorts, sailors and the money they bring with them are not welcome. Only a few resort managers understand that sailors are quite wealthy, usually very sociable, and that their yachts are a welcome decoration in the harbor basin. Musket Cove is one such resort. ▬ BLOG ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ You can find the blog post for this video here: https://sailing-marianoa.de/musket-cove/ ▬ CHAPTERS ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 00:00 Introduction 02:43 Marina Office 03:11 Yacht Club Island Bar 03:46 Maintenance Underwater Hull 06:22 Traders Cafe 08:25 Staff Apartments 09:18 Brodies Rock 10:48 False Pass 11:22 Maintenance Balmar 11:52 Airstrip 12:16 Golf Course 12:51 Anchorage 13:46 Lomani Lookout 14:16 Lomani Island Resort 15:32 Plantation Island Resort 15:50 Black Coral Restaurant 16:13 Dicks Bar & Restaurant ▬ CIRCUMNAVIGATION ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ For many years, sailing around the world had been my (Hannes) big dream, which I wanted to realize when I reached retirement age due to my job. But sometimes life doesn't go as planned. In the spring of 2020, I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Suddenly, my life accelerated considerably. I sold my house, cleared out my belongings, and began to acquire mountains of ship equipment. We planned to cast off at the beginning of March 2021 – and that's what happened, despite COVID-19. Brigitta was completely surprised, of course, even though sailing around the world was a much better fit for her professional life than mine. But in the following six months, Brigitta has made amazing progress and is just as excited about our big adventure as I am. We have now been traveling for a total of four and a half years. One adventure follows another, and we enjoy every day anew. In search of freedom and independence, a thirst for adventure and a love of nature, we – Brigitta and Hannes – are sailing around the world together. For this circumnavigation, we bought the Lagoon 40 MariaNoa catamaran, with which we set off on the Barfußroute from the French Atlantic coast at the beginning of March 2021. Brigitta and Hannes are enjoying their stay at Muscat Cove Resort in the Fiji Islands and are reporting on the impressive bay in their travel blog. They have even decided to become lifetime members. A touch of luxury on their trip! Do you have any specific questions? We'd be happy to answer them at MariaNoa@gmx.de. ▬ PLAN INTERNATIONAL ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ I have been volunteering for Plan International for many years. Plan International is one of the world's largest children's charities, alongside UNICEF, Save the Children, World Vision, and SOS Children's Villages. On our trip, we don't just want to relax in dreamy bays, but also visit our sponsored children in Plan's program countries and volunteer to document the work being done there. Plan International is an international children's charity. Be part of our journey on the catamaran MariaNoa and subscribe to our channel!

Sometimes in life, things just work out right, don’t they? Tea and biscuits. Wimbledon and strawberries. Morecambe & Wise. When I stepped on board Aquastar 57, INCONNUE for the first time, she was intrinsically just… well… right. Her elegant stance, bow slightly cocked in the air. Swathes of golden teak (from 2024) — and it’s as sustainable as can be. An original, beautiful tartan carpet sets off her immaculate, rich timber cabinetry and greets you as you walk through those massive, beautifully varnished aft saloon doors. These, of course, fold all the way back and are indicative of the substantial quality of this mini superyacht. She is exceptionally well presented, fully and comprehensively equipped, and has an engine room that would, honestly, shame the RNLI. A very special Aquastar 57. The ARC is the original transocean rally for cruising yachts. Around 150 boats set sail every year in November, sailing from Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria to Rodney Bay on Saint Lucia. The rally attracts people of all ages and nationalities, sailing monohulls, multihulls and even motor boats from 27 feet to 100 feet (8.23m-32m). Over 8,000 boats have sailed with us to the Caribbean since the first ARC in 1986. The 2,700NM Atlantic crossing takes around 18-21 days for the average yacht. The record is 8 days and six hours, set by the maxi Rambler 88 (USA) in 2016. This year we are bringing you along with live broadcasted updates starting from Tuesday 18th of November and then every day at 16.00 UTC, until Sunday 23rd when the start will take place from 12.00 UTC. In this video, i'm going to be covering the replacement of my trailer axle and hubs. I'll detail; - how to measure up for the new axle - removing the old axle - what to do if the hub is reluctant to go on the new axle - as well as one or two gotchas that you might want to avoid I'll also go into a curious problem I had with the trailer lights. Transcript: So that axle there, trailer axle, is pretty much 40 years old. I don't trust it anymore. So when you're selecting your replacement hub, I find it helped to really draw a good diagram of of the dimensions of the trailer and the existing axle. In particular, you want the hub face to hub face dimension, which on my trailer is 58 and 1/2 in. The other crucial dimension is the leaf spring center to leaf spring center, which in this case is 45 and 3/4 in. The other thing to consider is the rating of the axle, which for the Potter 19 is a 2,200, a 2 in by 2 in box section as shown there. To ensure compatibility, it's best to buy the hubs from the same place you buy the axle. And the particular details you're looking for is the number of studs, which in this case is five studs with a 4 and 1/2 in separation measured across there. Step one is to loosen those lug nuts so that I can remove the wheel later. A little good old PB Blaster. This side's coming off. Okay, time to get a jack under it. Do the same on the other side. Concrete blocks to um add add extra support. That all looks a bit different to the new one. Note the spacer between the leaf spring and the axle. These Ubolts are only 3, four years old. It's coming off pretty easy. Okay, now I'm on to the port side. As you can see, it's a bit wet today. Incidentally, those hubs are only about 5 years old, but they're not galvanized, so they're getting replaced with galvanized hubs. Universally pathetic shipments. That's what UPS stands for. Looks just about the same. Oh dear, there's a hole in the top of the axle. Uh, there isn't one in the new axle. Well, the hub won't go on the spindle. I was instructed to sand here after which the hub fitted. Okay. Okay, kids, don't make the same mistake as me and get you bolts that are too short. You see these new trailers have this adapter to avoid having a hole in the axle. That's what the old one looks like. Consequently, you need the longer Ubolts. That's what I've measured on the inner diameter of the hub. Well, that dimension is greater than the inner dimension of the hub. I found another socket on Amazon that should just about fit. Okay. So, if your brake lights don't work on your trailer, but the running lights are fine, check the ground. I added a separate wire here, that yellow wire, and ran that back independently. And now the light works perfectly. So, the ground is the problem, which if you look at the amount of rust on there, it's hardly a surprise. I'm using this old battery charger as a 12vt source and a drill bit to connect the positive into the connector. clamp the other side of the battery charger to the chassis. Yay, it's working. So, on my trailer, which is apparently ass backwards, that is the passenger side brake light. That's the driver's side brake light. Yay. And that is the tail lights. Yay. And there's the solution. So, what was really confusing was that the old ground was a partial ground that made the brake light look like the tail light. It's things like that that can make you think you're losing your mind. Okay. Well, here's the new socket. There's my old torque wrench. Set it to 50 foot-lb. Yay, it fits. Keep tightening it whilst turning the wheel. There we go. Loosen it off. Retighten it fingertight. Put the nut locking thing back on. Grease it up fully until grease starts to come out. Some new marine grease. Dust cap on and lug nuts on. Now do the port side. Those U bolts are really close to the end of the axle. I presume that's okay. There you can see the gap between the back of the axle and the oil seal surface. Last thing to do is to fit the dust cap which goes on there. It's necessary to encourage it on with a hammer. A lump hammer and a piece of wood was the most effective. Then fit the little rubber cap like that. And that there is the finished job. And there's the other side complete. Curiously, this gap is a bit different on this side compared to the other side. I'll check with the vendor whether that's acceptable. Yay, finished. One day I'll have replaced everything on this trailer. Then she'll be good for another 40 years. Thanks for watching.

This episode discusses the old sailor's adage: "one hand for the boat, and one for yourself." It's not just an old saying, but also an important safety philosophy that encourages sailors to always be mindful of how they are holding onto the boat. Following this advice, sailors should always maintain at least one point of contact with the boat when moving about or performing a task to avoid man overboard (MOB) incidents.

Day 47, Solo NonStop Circumnavigation: I switch out the storm sail for a stay sail Captain Jay gave me back in Grenada. While doing so I also chose to exchange some reefs and lose it in the boom. Big mistake! It’s September 10th. In the North Atlantic. Heading towards the equator. Over 2,300 miles from the start (Grenada). 0 engine hours have been used since setting sail. WILL ANSWER ALL COMMENTS WHEN I HAVE SERVICE! ❤️ ABOUT: My name is Captain Kimmer. After tri-outs: sailing across the Atlantic without any navigation equipment, just my eyes and the stars, we’re on mission 1 of 3. A Solo NonStop Circumnavigation with a twist! I hope you enjoy the show. PATREON: Captain Kimmer For those who want to support financially, this is the best moral boost! NON PROFIT 🐶 ♋️ The Bravest Dog in the World Is About to Change It. Help Us Get There. I’m Captain Kimmer, Kimmer O’Reilly — sailor, survivor, and founder of a mission that shouldn’t be possible. Two-time blood cancer nearly took my life. When I survived, I expected joy. What came instead was an identity crisis. I didn’t know who I was anymore — just that the old me was gone. Then came Casper — my service dog, my best friend, my reason to fight forward. Now, Casper and I are doing something no one believes can be done: a nonstop solo circumnavigation of the globe… starting from the wrong side. We’re sailing east, into the wind and current, through the Southern Ocean and past the Cape of Good Hope — proving that after cancer, life isn’t over. It can be better than it ever was. But we’re not just breaking records. We’re launching a nonprofit to help cancer survivors rediscover purpose, identity, and joy. This GoFundMe isn’t just to keep our sails full. It’s to build something that lasts long after we return. Donate today — not just to help Casper and me sail around the world, but to help thousands of survivors believe they can start again. Let’s show the world what’s possible. 👉 https://bit.ly/BravestDogInTheWorld 🎼 🎵 MUSIC: 🎵 🎼 INTRO: Song: Chime & Nytrix - RunawayMusic provided by NoCopyrightSoundsFree Download/Stream: http://ncs.io/CN_Runaway OUTRO: Song: Coopex, KHEMIS - If Looks Can Kill [NCS Release] Music provided by NoCopyrightSounds Free Download/Stream: http://ncs.io/IfLooksCanKill Watch: http://NCS.lnk.to/IfLooksCanKillAT/youtube

► 22 years after Jean-Luc Van Den Heede, the young Breton sailor is welcomed as a hero in Brest: aboard his large trimaran MACSF, he has just broken the record for a round-the-world voyage against the prevailing winds by 28 days. We were able to welcome him in the harbor and share his first moments ashore. ► Last summer, while Guirec Soudée's transatlantic warm-up with the famous YouTuber Inoxtag (see MW203) may have resembled a vacation, it was in fact to prepare both man and his boat for an extreme project – a solo, non-stop circumnavigation of the globe via the three great capes… but not in the usual direction. This time, the approach is to head straight for Cape Horn, followed by Cape Leeuwin and the Cape of Good Hope, which must be left to starboard. ► The Breton sailor thus left his home port of Lorient at the end of December aboard his Ultim MACSF. Two days before Christmas, the solo sailor crossed the starting line of the round-the-world race between the island of Ouessant and the Cape Lizard. Ahead of his bows lies a 22,000-nautical mile direct route against wind and currents. While Guirec is a particularly seasoned and determined sailor - he has already completed a double transatlantic row - the challenge of this round-the-world voyage is colossal. Even the greatest sailors, like Thomas Coville, fresh from his record-breaking Jules Verne Trophy, readily admits: "It's a challenge that impresses me and that I think I would never have been able to take on. It's extraordinary. I don't know if people really realize what he's doing, but it truly defies everything in terms of adventure." ► One can only imagine the intense pressure the sailor must have been under until that liberating crossing of the finish line. Well done, Guirec! ► The record for circumnavigating the world from east to west 1971 – Chay Blyth aboard British Steel (monohull) – 292 days 1994 – Mike Golding aboard Group 4 (monohull) – 161 days 2000 – Philippe Monet aboard Unnet (monohull) – 151 days 2004 – Jean-Luc Van Den Heede aboard Adrien (monohull) – 122 days 2026 – Guirec Soudée aboard MACSF (multihull) – 94 days ► Ultim MACSF: A Tried and Tested Trimaran! The Ultim MACSF was first launched in 2014 bearing the name Sodebo Ultim'... but this giant trimaran has much earlier origins, as it borrowed many elements such as the connecting arms and floats from Geronimo, a multihull launched 13 years previously. The trimaran continued its (very) long career under the names Actual Leader, Mieux, and finally Adagio before flying the colors of MACSF, a French insurance company for healthcare professionals founded in 1935. ► Technical Specifications Length: 102’ (31 m) Beam: 70’ (21.2 m) Mast height: 115’ (35 m) Maximum sail area: 7,136 sq ft (663 m²) Top speed: 43 knots ► Read our full Feature here: https://www.multihulls-world.com/articles-catamaran-trimaran/guirec-soudee-s-single-handed-non-stop-east-to-west-circumnavigation-i-practically-covered-twice-the-normal-route-but-i-got-there-in-the-end ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests! Howdy folks! Welcome back to Nomad Boat Building. My name is Mark Reuten, and this video is part of the Poulsbo Boat Project, where I’m documenting the complete build of a traditional Poulsbo Boat from start to finish. In this episode, we build the station molds—the forms that define the shape of the hull. These molds are critical to the entire build, as every plank we install will reference them. Instead of using plywood, I walk through my preferred method of building molds from solid 1x material. This approach is more economical, easier to work with in the shop, and allows the material to be reused after the molds are no longer needed. We go step-by-step through laying out the mold shape from the plans, transferring the geometry using simple tools, cutting the curves on the bandsaw, and assembling the molds with gussets and cross spalls. Along the way, I also cover notch layout for inwales and risers, fairing considerations, and a few lessons learned (including what not to do). The Poulsbo Boat is being built using strip planking with cedar strips, reinforced with fiberglass inside and out—a blend of traditional and modern boatbuilding techniques. If you're interested in woodworking, traditional craftsmanship, and practical boat shop problem solving, this series follows the entire build from start to finish.
