We arrived in Cartegena, Colombia and after a small delay we jumped into exploring this colourful, historic city. Exploring the cobblestone streets of old town, sipping coffee at cafe Alberto San, Cartegena surprised us at every turn. We finally replaced our boat cushions!!! The kids enjoyed workingout most nights at the outdoor gym. My favorite part was exploring after the sun went down and the city really came alive. We hiked to the Whitsunday Peak, the tallest point in the islands at 437 metres. It was a tough 3-hour return trek (with a well-earned rest at the top!) but absolutely worth every step for those jaw-dropping views. ⛰️✨ During our stay, we explored Lady Island and the surrounding beaches — each one more beautiful than the last. Finally, we made our way to Gulnare Inlet to try our luck crabbing again. We hiked both Outer Newry and Newry Islands, each with its own character and beauty, then tried our luck crabbingagain — and finally had success! 🦀 Three in total this time! Hunting and gathering life isn’t easy, but it sure is rewarding. We also explored Mausoleum and Rocky Islands — both absolutely stunning and surprisingly untouched for somewhere so close to the coast. Most people just pass them by, but trust me, they’re worth the stop. To wrap up the week, we tucked into Rabbit Island to hide from the northerly winds and enjoy some calm days in nature. 🌍 Épisode 48 Entre fonds marins magiques, îles paradisiaques et petites galères… l’aventure continue ⛵😅 Dans ce nouvel épisode de notre tour du monde en famille en catamaran, nous débutons notre journée à Grand Mal Bay, à Grenade. Avec Mathis et Inès, nous partons pour une session snorkeling et vous emmenons découvrir un lieu aussi étonnant que poétique : le Grenada Underwater Sculpture Park, un monde sous-marin unique qui nous a littéralement laissés sans voix. À peine de retour à bord, nous levons l’ancre pour mettre le cap sur Saline Island, au sud de Carriacou, pour une nuit au calme. Impossible pour nous de passer dans le sud sans y faire une escale… on adore cet endroit 🏝️ Le lendemain, direction Sandy Island. Et cette fois, on vous montre pas à pas notre technique pour prendre une bouée d’amarrage, de A à Z. Une méthode simple, efficace et surtout sécurisante, même lorsque le vent est bien présent. Si nous avons choisi Sandy Island, ce n’est pas un hasard : c’est un véritable petit paradis, mais aussi un point stratégique proche de Tyrell Bay. Dès le lendemain, on vous embarque en annexe pour effectuer la clearance de sortie. Un moment plein de surprises… entre un oubli indispensable et un retour bien secoué 😅 Une fois les formalités terminées, nous décidons de continuer notre route un peu plus au nord pour aller mouiller dans la superbe anse de Anse La Roche, à Carriacou, où se termine cet épisode riche en navigations, découvertes et moments de vie à bord. DIY Retractable Solar Panels on Speed Rail Arch - Cape Dory 30 Refit Part 4. To maximize solar power in the restricted space on this 30-foot Cape Dory cutter (with electric propulsion), we designed this no-weld/no-bend method for a DIY retractable solar array arch built from Speed Rail fittings, aluminum pipe, and heavy-duty stainless-steel drawer slides. The two extendable panels stow flush under the two fixed upper panels while maneuvering in a marina or for low windage when sailing offshore in heavy weather. They slide out on tracks to deploy when needed at anchor or in moderate conditions offshore. The arch is done but the wiring will be covered in a future video. Subscribe to follow the refit. Bright polished anodized aluminum pipe is twice as expensive as 6061 non-anodized and if you don't have a local wholesaler then anodized pipe cost could be prohibitive, which is why most DIY builds choose non-anodized. In that case be prepared to let it weather into that dull oxidized appearance. Note that pipe (like this Schedule 40) is measured by its Nominal Inside Diameter (ID), while stainless steel tubing is measured by its Outside Diameter (OD). This 1.25-inch pipe has an OD of 1.66 inches. If you’re building a larger arch, you'll want to use 1.5-inch pipe (1.9" OD). We used Schedule 40 because it’s plenty strong, lighter, and less pricey than heavy-walled Schedule 80. Two pieces 6061-T6 3/16" x 2" x 62" angle bar (NOT anodized) sold in one piece 25' stock length $87. Anodized angle bar is hard to source and in this build it is not in a highly visible area so doesn't matter if it becomes oxidized on the surface. A stock 25' piece of angle bar is double what we needed but at $87 it was cheaper than buying two shorter pieces online. And we can use some of the leftover on other projects. Speed-rail fittings: 1. Because these are N-type bi-facial, shade tolerant, and wired in parallel, they will cope with partial shading better than standard single-sided P-type panels. Clamps and fasteners: We used two Garhauer Dinghy Davit Stern Rail Clamps 1″ to 1.25″ DD-SRC 1-1.25 $75 each. These tube clamps are not a perfect fit to 1.25" pipe but are still useable. You can special order these clamps for 1.5" tube for a better fit (model DD-SRC 1-1.5) or look elsewhere for different style cheaper clamps.
