Skaldjursfiske enligt Life of Stardust ——- Langøy ligger tre sjömil nordost från Stavanger centrum.

We sailed 24 hours, most of it motoring because the wind was on the nose and we needed to make time before the weather window closed. I'm super excited to be in Oostende because it's our first stop in a new State! It feels like we're really making progress. And the cat is getting his sea legs, happier and happier to arrive in new ports.

During our visit to Crete, we saw so much activity in the olive harvesting process. It turns out that the season for picking olives runs from November to February. Crete plays a crucial role in Greek olive oil production: approximately 200,000 tons of olive oil are produced annually on the island, out of a total of 430,000 tons in all of Greece! We visited on oil factory and filmed the entire process: from picking the olives, collecting them in nets, transporting in burlap sacks, ready for the ride to the local live press, within 24 hours after picking! At the local olive press, the olives are cleaned of twigs and leaves, washed and ground into a homogeneous brown paste. This paste undergoes centrifugation, till it is pure extra virgin olive oil. The oil is then stored in 1,000-liter tanks and then bottled in tins to protect it from light. The oil is then distributed to both local and international markets, allowing consumers worldwide to enjoy high-quality Cretan olive oil!

I started this series of Advanced Seamanship Notes (Episodes 115-117) to bring to light specific areas of sailing knowledge which are A. difficult to locate in sailing resources on-line or off, and B. provided by a Mariner who is recognizably a 'Master' - in the true sense of the word.  Captain J H Illingworth was considered the 'father of offshore sailing & racing' in postwar Britain. He started the Junior Offshore Group in the UK, acted as Commodore for the Royal Ocean Racing Club , but also was the instigator of the Sydney to Hobart Race in Australia, in 1945. That alone could be pedigree enough for my purposes- but add to that the fact that he was also a decorated submarine Captain in WWII, and suddenly you may realize, as I did; that what Capt. Illingworth did not know about waves and the upper layers of the ocean and their effect on a sailing boat is little more than chafe on the wind. Come take a knee, as I have, at the hand of a Master Mariner- and let's learn some more about Ocean Racing Strategy Youtube Video Episode - Available 8 hours after the episode appears on podcast streams Come watch the carnage in person! https://youtube.com/live/FVFp0SCwzJA?feature=share The Mariner's Library Podcast If you would like to listen to fantastic stories of sailors in small vessels taking on the ocean in the last 150 years, all selected & read by me an actual sailor, check out the 'Mariner's Library'. https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-mariners-library/id1710666955 Finally, to support the production of this material please consider heading over to Patreon. https://www.patreon.com/themariner Edward William Insurance. We were so excited to sail across the Atlantic Ocean to the Caribbean! We worked so hard on the boat and planned our provisioning and storage and THEN... 1 hour into our test sail to Cabo Verde, we had to turn back. Three new issues came up. Thanks again to my husband, Brett Pierce, for the outro music. Later, everyone we spoke to said we made the best choice—not just to turn back that day but also to wait for next season. Apparently it’s pretty common as people discover issues with their boat, especially if the boat is new to them. Someone asked me, Did we chicken out? Like was crossing the ocean too scary? I laughed a bit because crossing the ocean felt fine, it felt right, I was excited—but waiting until next season is actually a bit more scary because all my plan are gone. I’m entering the unknown; our financial plans must change, our career plans are askew, seeing our loved ones has to be rescheduled… literally everything about our lives has to be reworked. And I guess this is as good a time as any to remind you that if you want to support this channel, please select a paid subscription to my Substack, link in a pinned comment. I keep all my content free across platforms, so your help ensures that everyone has access, from this channel to my blog to my podcast. The one thing I know for sure is I’m not going to stop sailing for sustainability. I don’t know where we’ll go before next season, but the Canary Islands are ecologically amazing and several of them are recognised Bio Reserves! We’ll of course take advantage of being in the best place in the world to work on the boat, completing some needed projects and maybe some fun ones too. Another friend asked me if I was sad about not crossing the Atlantic and not being in the Caribbean this year. I guess I am a little, but I really can’t complain. I’m excited to be here and engage in some remote work with my Earth Law colleagues and produce meaningful content. This is just a huge change to adapt to and there are so many unknowns I’m still wrapping my head around it. But that’s a good sailing life lesson. We will be confronted with change, with all our plans going to shit, with a huge amount of unknowns, with things outside of our control. All we can do is work with what we have to make the best of it. We must be patient with the situation and gentle with ourselves.

Comece a estudar, assistir vídeos e ler livros.

Final Opportunity – Giving 2022 As a non-profit sailing channel, we are undergoing a complete retro fit of our 1974 Alden Dolphin 47 to get her to be ocean worthy for some blue water cruising and to start our circumnavigation. We have self-funded the boat to this point for everything that has been done since we purchased her in Jan of 2022. We are now asking for your help to get us to the next step in the progression of the retrofit. In this phase we hope to obtain full insurance coverage on the boat (we currently only have liability) and to purchase a gimbled stove with oven, refrigerator, freezer and air conditioning unit. We would like to have this or a good portion of it slated for install in the 1st quarter of 2023. All financial contributions (or items purchased on Amazon) are tax deductible for your US income tax returns for full face and/or retail value. You contribution helps us to continue with project and support events to help us engage with our veterans thru events such as day sailings, working on the boat to help with projects and social gatherings. An August Bank Holiday is more than just a trip to the seaside; it’s a snapshot of Britishness: ice cream and chips, wind and rain, chaos and myths, and above all, a shared sense of tradition. Bank holidays are now such a familiar part of British life that we’ve forgotten where they came from, or why they are called “Bank” holidays at all. Here we share some black and white photographs from a classic British seaside resort.
