Ep 116 - Treasures Found... Today we cleaned out the "gargage" also known as the Aft head. There is so much stuff on board that we aren't currently using and we need to make a plan to get the aft head completed before we depart on our new adventure. The only way to start a project is to just dig in and go for it... because of that we found some more pieces that were needed to make the boat more complete and ready to start cruisng. Found a "missing" shelf to the liquor locker and the last of the doors for the forward the head to complete the space. I left the boat behind in Amami and took the big boat to Okinawa ( read Ferry) and it is day 6 of my second journey this year to Japan`s Longevity Hot Spots. I am in Okinawa asking the question of what went wrong. Why is it not a Blue Zone anymore. Among the conversations I have had since I arrived is one I had with a 33 year old. It enlightened me. Longevity isn’t just about how long we live — it’s also about how well. In Okinawa, once known as the “Land of Immortals,” I’ve been asking not just the elderly, but also the younger generation what they see in their parents and grandparents. On Day 6 of my 30-day journey across Japan’s longevity hotspots, I spoke with a 33-year-old Okinawan who shared candid thoughts about the “red zone” — the extended period of declining health that too many face. His words revealed something crucial: longevity casts a long shadow, and the younger generation feels it too. Community traditions like moai are still alive, often fueled by social connections and even drinking culture, but questions remain: how can Okinawa, and Japan more broadly, sustain not just lifespan, but healthy lifespan? This journey is part of my research for my upcoming book, A Journey Beyond the Blue Zone. Assuming the worse being a ship of some large mass collision could see nothing except a massive old growth log skidding aft. Folded steel hull is designed for surviving all most anything. The UK Shaving Soap I'm using in this video is Erasmic Shaving Soap Bowl. Not a new artisin soap. it's been around for about one hundred and fifty years. The razor of choice is the Chinese made, Yaqi Final Cut. The final cut is an adjustable Safety Razor. It's made from brass and alloy. The razor blade is the Bluebird. I haven't used one of these blades for quite a long time. My shaving brush is also from Yaqi. My first pass was made with the razor set to number three, as was the second pass. I recieved a couple of nicks and a spot of blood around my moustache area. So for the third pass I cranked the setting down to number two. luckily, the blood stopped and all ended well. In this week's episode I travel south to Lake Pueblo State Park to watch the first "shakedown" race of the Lake Pueblo Sailing Club (LPSC). Shortly after the race start, severe weather moves in from the west and the winds start gusting into the mid 20s on shore (looked much heavier out on the lake). At least one boat captain I talked to after the race reported a reading of 28 kts on their boat. This was my first time attending a sailboat race and I will definitely be back for more! ► The TH36 was the first (and last?) power catamaran from the American brand Four Winns and it caused quite a sensation when it was launched three years ago. Testers were unanimous about the seaworthiness of the hull designed by Marc Lombard Yacht Design and the pleasure of handling the new powercat, and it was named Multihull Of The Year in the Power category in 2023. ► The TH38, now wearing the Jeanneau badge, retains all the qualities of its predecessor and features a fully enclosed windshield, while maintaining the convenience of the central walkway. The modular sunbathing areas, outdoor galley, and two double cabins are still part of the inventory. ► For now, the foiling system tested on the previous TH36 no longer seems to be on the plans, but during our test sail off Cannes, we found that the boat offers exceptional handling with the twin 350 HP Mercury engine setup.
