Welcome back! We are in the middle of preparing Linnea for the winter that is fast approaching. She needs to be emptied of all the stuff we have filled her with during our 4,5 years as livaboards, hauled out of the water and prepared to handle the coming months. As it is in south of Sweden where it's often very windy in the winter months, we are also unstepping the mast - which is always nervrecking! It's been a year since we launched the boat in Trinidad and we are exited to see how the Coppercoat has held up sailing in both warm and cold climates! What will she look like and how will this go? Jailolo, on the western side of Halmehera Island, Indonesia, is a very clean and pleasant rural area that's only 17 sea miles from the bustling, gateway city of Ternate. It has a small port with plenty of ferry and speed boat traffic from Ternate and other nearby communities. The town is neat and tidy, the houses brightly painted, and the area full of fruit trees of every sort, and fertile vegetable gardens. It's a refreshing change from the crowded, dirty, noisy city. The Culture and Tourism Office of Jailolo provided us a car, driver, and English-speaking guides to show us these glimpses of Jailolo town and surrounding areas: nutmeg/clove plantations, traditional meeting houses, sea views, local life, traditional craft and lore, including the traditional dish "Popeda" made from the starch of the local Sago Palm. The highlight was visiting a hot springs area, and from there, taking a local canoe down the river, all the way to the sea and to a beach strewn with stones that float and views of the majestic volcanoes from which the stones came. We also got to see the residence of the "Bupati", the highest man in the local government. Jailolo is reportedly the place to be in mid-May for the annual Festival Teluk Jailolo. Each year there are colorful costumes, dance, and a number of sea activities, both traditional and modern. We thank the Bupati for his welcome, and the Culture and Tourism Office of West Halmehara for receiving us on such short notice and showing us the highlights of Jailolo. Filmed in December 2012.

PART 1 of a 2 part series - Sailing With A Heart ! You may have heard of the ABANDONED ISLAND DOG called MOOSE! Impi is sailing around the world and New Caledonia has become our most 'returned to country', not only for its beauty and amazing friendships forged, but also largely because of one abandoned island dog called Moose (Mouss). We appealed to our YouTube community to help and this partly financed a Flying Vet called Guy Kane to fly in treat him. The dilemma we now face is to discover when the appropriate time would be to remove Moose from his island and persuade the authorities to allow him to be moved to a land based home. We have debated this issue with some authorities here in New Caledonia and were advised that after numerous attempts to remove Moose from his island - they eventually decided to leave him there because he displayed such an unwillingness to go! Now we have engaged Guy Kane, the flying vet who regularly treats Moose against pain to ask for his opinion. We hope this movie will mean something to you all - Moose certainly is a very unique and special dog and considering his future really is one that tugs on our heartstrings.
