A hitchhiker boards in the middle of the night by climbing into the bean bag chairs we use to block access to our cockpit from the sugar scoop, and Lisa carries it all the way to the bow before she discovers the little freeloader! After several days of sailing up the Keys from Key West, we finally make it to Miami! The wind turned nasty as we made our way over to Dinner Key Marina where we had a mooring ball reserved. This was our first attempt at picking up a mooring ball from the catamaran, and it was hilariously bad. Included in this video for your amusement … We have since figured out what we are doing. ;) We were hoping to have time to hang out in Miami but we needed to give the dogs a huge walk and run around, and we had five loads of laundry to get through after thoroughly soaking all of our bedding - pillows included - during our journey from Key West (see the previous episode for more on that). We also had to deal with the realities of big city cruising, where we are small fry. It was super cool getting to drive by downtown Miami on our way out though! Season 7 : Episode #168 : A Stuck Anchor and Short Choppy Seas Hello Friends, On this weeks episode we awake at Johnson's Lee on Santa Rosa Island after another very eventful night of high winds and yawling at anchor. One thing this trip drove home for us was how strong our anchor set up was and gave us a lot of faith in our rope rode. After a struggle of getting the anchor up, which was well secured in some kelp, we made our way out into light winds and heavy short period seas left over from the nights blow. In this video we demonstrate how to raise a furling Genoa or jib at the dock in a foul wind by backwinding it against a furled Solent sail on an inner forestay. You could also backwind a Dacron Genoa or jib against the rig if you don’t have an inner forestay, but I wouldn’t recommend doing that with a laminate sail because they are more fragile.
