So we spent a little time on a small island called Union Island before we headed down to Grenada. And along these islands what we were most fascinated about was how amazing the people are. The culture is so different. People have a smile on their faces, super friendly and they love helping each other. It is always so wonderful to see that. After exploring a bit and meeting people we decided to head down to the southern beach of the same island. On the way we got to see swinging bridges and the kids loved jumping into the blue water! After spending the evening there we started heading down to Grenada the next day. We had a great sail and finally arrived at the beautiful island. All of us decided to take a walk along the towns and it was so amazing! We met a guy over there who wanted to take us on a little tour. Of course we said yes. Highlighting one of my favorite features of the Precision 18: superb light air performance due to the high Sail Area to Displacement (S.A./disp) ratio of 21.81. Of course, this comes with the distinct disadvantage of having to reef early when the winds pick up. But in light winds, the Precision 18 can keep on sailing when many other sailboats will be "becalmed" (unable to move due to lack of sufficient wind). Sie liegt nördlich von Nanuya Levu, das als Drehort für den Film „Die Blaue Lagune“ diente. „The Blue Lagoon“ ist ein US-amerikanisches Filmdrama aus dem Jahr 1980 anhand des gleichnamigen Romans von Henry Stacpoole aus dem Jahr 1908. Die Hauptrollen spielten Brooke Shields und Christopher Atkins. An diesem Ort nehmen wir bei Semi`s Kava Night an unserer ersten Kava-Zeremonie teil. Schon Stunden zuvor, waren die Speisen in einem Erdofen vergraben worden, die nun bei Scheinwerferlicht vorsichtig wieder ausgegraben werden. Das Essen ist sehr lecker und die Atmosphäre mysthisch. Im Somosomo Village gehen wir an Land. Eine Bewohnerin nimmt sich sofort unser an und führt uns quer durchs Dorf zum Chief. Nach kurzer Verzögerung werden wir in einer s.g. SevuSevu empfangen. Wir überreichen einen Bund Kava-Wurzeln und leisten eine Spende. Der Chief heißt uns herzlich willkommen. Wir dürfen so oft wir wollen durchs Dorf laufen und in der Bucht ankern. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Her father Peter Shipway completed 31 races south, on two of which he was aboard Love and War when they won the Tattersall Cup for IRC overall. Grace is normally to be found racing aboard Noel Cornish’s Farr 40 Indi, but she hinted that she might be back again for the race to Hobart someday!

My brother Toby and his wife Tara live on a 10m Kerr Catamaran. It's been out of the water for a few months getting some upgrades and general maintenance done but now it's time to splash her again. Tobyy is very much into saving money where he can so he figured the best way to get the boat back in the water was to do it all DIY style. Using our older brothers trucks and sons and a rented crane he made a pretty big project seem easy. About three hours was all that was needed to get the boat from where it had sat on blocks, 20km through suburban streets, back into the water, mast, boom and rigging back on and back out on its anchor. Esse foi o nosso desafio nesse episódio. Saímos às 3 da manhã pela barra do rio Sergipe, em um mar calmo mas no breu total, confiando no GPS, na sonda e no instinto. Ao longo do dia enfrentamos correntezas contra, ventos instáveis, chuvas e o limite apertado da maré alta para entrar no São Francisco com segurança. Na chegada, com a ajuda do Chumbinho como prático e do Mário Jorge, atravessamos uma barra onde a profundidade oscilava perigosamente entre 3 e 6 metros — com um barco de 2 metros de calado. Foi um dos momentos mais tensos da viagem. Esse é também um lugar marcado pela história: o antigo Povoado do Cabeço foi engolido pelo mar em 1999, após as barragens ao longo do rio reduzirem a vazão de sedimentos. O farol que guiou embarcações por mais de 120 anos ainda está de pé, tombado, no meio do mar.
