In questo video ti voglio mostrare i flaps che vengono installati sulle Barche. Si tratta di due placche che vengono fissate nel parte poppiera, dietro alla barca, vicino al motore. La loro funzione è quella di sostenere la poppa della barca, quindi la parte posteriore. Questo aiuto alla carena, ma in modo che si possa navigare sempre con il migliore assetto e quindi senza dover viaggiare sbandati, quindi inclinati, da un lato o da un altro. In pratica, grazie a questi supporti, in caso tu abbia la barca con carichi non corretti, tu possa correggerla e raddrizzarla, senza dover spostare il peso che hai messo su un lato. Oltre a questo effetto, i flsps, hanno anche il vantaggio di aiutare la barca ad uscire meglio dall'acqua, quindi entrare in planata prima e meglio. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Canon R50 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Back up is a Canon 200d. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. I also use an Insta 360 and have two drones, a Magic mini2 and Mavic pro Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have limited communications with the outside World. With the new Evinrude E-TEC G2 250 H.O. on the transom, turning a Raker HO 14½“ x 26” three-blade stainless steel propeller through a 1.85:1 gear reduction, the 20'9" (6.3 m) long, 7'11" (2.4 m) beam, single side console reached 71.7 mph at 5700 rpm wide open throttle. With throttles pulled back to 3000 rpm, the boat ran 32.5 mph at 3000 rpm, which works out to an even 5.0 mpg. That gives her a predicted range of 203 statute miles with a 10% fuel reserve. Ranger provides a built-in setback at the transom that moves the motor aft for better boat handling. The transom is reinforced with pultruded fiberglass for strength and stiffness.

This past weekend we took the ASA 103 & 104 combination course through Soutch Coast Sailing Adventures in Kemah Tx. The 103/104 combo course is a 3 night & 3 day course where we slept on the boat all 3 nights. The overarching theme of the course was to: A) Learn coastal navigation skills the "old fashioned" way with a compass and paper. & B) Learn the systems of a boat which is similar in size and function as a boat you might charter on your own. On night 1, the class started at 6pm when we met at the boat to come up with a meal plan for the 3 days. After that we did a provisioning run to good ole wally world. To give the course some structure, we sailed (and motored) down to Galveston via the Houston Ship Channel on day 1 which was after our first night aboard in Kemah. Along the way we practiced both planned and unplanned man overboard maneuvers as well as practicing docking, mooring & anchoring. That about all that I put in this part 1. Part 2 will have sailing the blue water of the Gulf of Mexico as well comments of the 2 exams we had to take.
