It's time to drill a large hole in the bottom of our boat, and finally install our stern tube and prop shaft. This week we have a project the two of us have been eager to work on for a very long time, and that is beginning to install our prop shaft. Last spring we cut a test hole in the bottom of our boat to make sure we could align it with where the engine bed will be, but now that we have our prop shaft and stern tube in from Vetus, we can get further along. https://webshop.vetus.com/en/product/bg25-0500-polyester-stern-tube Firstly we needed to cut a 2 inch hole for the stern tube to fit through - and it needed to stay at a 7.5 degree angle as it exited the boat. Cutting through thick bulkheads and floor webbing was not the easiest of feats, but it did come out exactly as we wanted it to. Keeping the tube laid out at that angle, Matt got the necessary information of how far it needed to jut out, based on the space we would need between our propeller blades (coming next week!) and the hull. Within that empty space, we built out the deadwood (or skeg) out of the same high density foam that makes up our boat. Matt shaped it with files and sanders until it held the perfect shape, and then it was bonded to the hull. Once it cured we were able to go through with the first round of glassing, which received 3 layers of our 1708 double biased, wrapped around the entire thing. Next week we'll be able to continue further by bonding the stern tube to the deadwood, and hopefully fitting our new feathering props from AB Marine!! :) We hope you enjoy!

Our first stop was to see the progress of Distant Shores IV - with future owners being Paul and Sheryl Shard. We see the progress of their Orion 49 thus far, and hear from Paul not only the reason they have chosen this boat, but how it is all coming together. Next we make a stop at neighboring KM Yachtbuilders. A name that has been very familiar in our 'boat-hold' for the last 10 years, as they produce Matt's favorite monohull on earth - the Bestevear. In our tour, we're able to see every stage of their builds - from framing, to interiors, to the finished product. We had such a blast doing this tour - not only because we're in the middle of a boat build ourselves, but because six years ago we were in the middle of an aluminum boat rebuild. She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. In this episode, we start our week of Christmas with some traditions. The kids open their Christmas swimsuits. Karver throws a Banana Pancakes Breakfast on our boat. We get boarded by border patrol. We spend the week doing many Christmas activites. The kids have a blast hanging with all the kids and doing water sports. Mom bakes holiday treats while everyone goes to the beach. On Christmas Eve we open our secret person gifts as a family. We then head to the beach for live Christmas music and a bonfire. The next morning is CHRISTMAS! Santa came! For Christmas this year the kids all got things they needed for sailing. Kamden got a spear for spearfishing. Easton and Karver got skim boards. Malia got a wetsuit. All the cruisers get together Christmas morning for a brunch. I brought homemade cinnamon rolls. As a group we all head out to go spearfishing. What a success! We got a grouper, a hog fish, snapper and lobster. We have sundowners on the beach that night. It's time to say goodbye. We do one last "family" drone shot on the beach before parting ways. We head back to Georgetown, Bahamas. On the way we see dolphins! Going through the cut is a bit scary. Luckily we have a catamaran in front of us to lead the way.

The Riviera Belize 54 Daybridge is a three stateroom yacht that offers a near-custom level of interior fit-and-finish. The transom bench seat has an electrically-adjustable table that lowers for entertaining and rises to a comfortable height for dining at the touch of a finger.
