In this episode we keep on pushing south using every weather window open to us. We have a short bump and go in Oeiras where we meet some musicians, we anchor in Sesimbra for the night before heading to Setubal where we anchored and went for supplies. We left and headed for Sines where we pick up our friends who have only sailed a few times before. We subject them to a 12 hr bumpy passage and an awful night on anchor but we make it round Cape St. Vincent and into the Algarve to Portimão, our winter destination. We are a family of five with plans for an epic adventure, sailing around the world. We have bought a boat we have to gut it, rebuild it, sell all of our possessions and have t he guts to cast off. Day 6 of the 49er and 49erFX World Championships in Lanzarote. Erwan Fischer and Clement Pequin secured France's first 49er world title, while Odile van Aanholt and Annette Duetz reclaimed the 49erFX world title for the Netherlands in Lanzarote. Despite challenges, Fischer and Pequin won the men's 49er with a race to spare. Van Aanholt and Duetz clinched the 49erFX title in the afternoon, overcoming a setback earlier in the day. The Swedish team went home with a silver in the 49erFX, and Bart Lambriex and Floris van de Werken claimed silver for the Netherlands in the men's 49er. The event showcased the competitive field ahead of the upcoming Olympic Regatta in July. What started as one of the most beautiful winter cruising days we’ve ever had in Southeast Alaska nearly turned into a disaster. We were navigating near shore outside Wrangell when our steel sailboat Alaskan Gypsy struck something hard beneath the surface. No warning. No visible marker. Just a grinding impact that turned a calm cruise into a serious event. With one of our children aboard and daylight fading, we began checking bilges, tanks, through-hulls, and systems, unsure if we’d hit ice, a log, or a submerged rock. The next step meant cold water, winter conditions, and an underwater inspection of the hull. What we found surprised us. Tutte le informazioni e la traccia GPS le trovate qua: https://goo.gl/wYyzTn Man mano, il sentiero si fa sempre più ripido, fino ad incrociare una scala in legno, che sarà anche il nostro punto di partenza verso la vetta. A questo punto, il sentiero lascia spazio ad una vera e propria semplice arrampicata, su grossi massi di granito, con indicazioni segnalate tramite le classiche "bamboline". Si prosegue fino ad arrivare alla base dell'inizio del percorso EEA. Una volta indossata l'attrezzatura, si sale tramite corde fisse, che ci porteranno in alto, verso una cresta (a quel punto termineranno le corde fisse), e si prosegue facendo molta attenzione, lungo il lato sinistro, su un piccolo terrazzo non protetto, che ci porterà ad intravedere le bamboline che ci indicano il percorso. Facendo molta attenzione, proseguiamo e iniziamo la discesa verso la nostra prima sosta, alla quale arriveremo, scendendo una veloce corda fissa, e attraversando uno spezzone di cavo d'acciaio, che ci porterà sulla cresta della nostra prima sosta (sosta 09). Da qui ci caleremo, per pochi metri, facendo molta attenzione a non superare la sosta, in quanto essa si trova guardando in basso, a destra, e non essendo sulla verticale, potrebbe trarci in inganno. Nel piccolo terrazzino, troviamo la seconda sosta (sosta 08) che, una volta calati, ci permetterà di raggiungere il bordo del famoso Sifone ("Bocca dello squalo" o "Conca Manna") dove troveremo la terza sosta (sosta 07). Da qui, la calata sarà nel vuoto per circa 25/28 metri, in uno scenario spettacolare che ci accompagnerà fin dentro al sifone. Qui troveremo il libro di vetta nel classico box inox, e avremo spazio a sufficienza per fare una veloce sosta rifocillante. Guardando il paesaggio sulla destra, troveremo la nostra quarta sosta (sosta 06), dalla quale ci caleremo lungo la parete leggermente appoggiata, fino alla quinta sosta (sosta 05). Da qua, la calata, sarà quasi verticale, fino a raggiungere la sesta sosta (sosta 04). Proseguendo la calata, arriveremo alla base della parete, e proseguendo verso il basso, sul lato destro, troveremo l'attacco di un traverso caratterizzato da un lungo cavo d'acciaio. Qua troveremo anche due fittoni, che ci permettono di attrezzare una calata assistita, direttamente dalla sesta sosta (sosta 04), fino all'attacco del traverso. Il traverso, su roccia appoggiata, è semplice, ma non avendo dei chiari appoggi per i piedi, risulta leggermente faticosa alle braccia. Fate inoltre sempre attenzione alle pistrine, che tendono ad allentarsi. Sarebbe opportuno portare sempre una chiave, per stringere quelle allentate. Alla fine del traverso, proseguiamo verso il basso, seguendo le "bamboline" che ci porteranno a delle corde fisse che ci accompagnano dentro un piccolo sifone. Da questo punto in poi, si può decidere di proseguire le calate (sul lato destro, tre calate in tutto che ci lasceranno alla base della parete, a fianco il sentiero di rientro), oppure la via di fuga. Purtroppo, ci è sfuggito l'indicazione (non proprio intuitiva) per le calate, e ce ne siamo resi conto solo una volta raggiunta la base. Da qua, sempre seguendo le "bamboline", incroceremo il sentiero rosso, dalla quale inizierà la risalita per il rientro. Si prosegue lungo il sentiero in salita fino ad incrociare la famosa scala in legno utilizzata all'andata. Da qua, si riprende il sentiero dell'andata e si rientra alle macchine. Nel dettaglio i nostri tempi di percorrenza molto blandi con numerose soste sono stati: Dal Parcheggio alla scala in legno 50 minuti Dalla scala in legno all'attacco EEA 60 minuti Dall'attacco EEA al sentiero di rientro 5 ore e 40 minuti Dal sentiero di rientro alla scala di legno 20 minuti Dalla scala din legno al Parcheggio 40 minuti. In sintesi: Avvicinamento 1 ora e 40 minuti Percorso EEA con calate 5 ore e 40 minuti Rientro 1 ora Attrezzatura utilizzata: - Imbrago - Caschetto - Discensore primario e discensore di riserva - Trilonge con nodo dissipante per i traversi su cavo d'acciaio e per le soste - Corda da 70m, meglio se due per velocizzare le discese Consiglio di farsi accompagnare da una Guida esperta locale.

A collision between Eve and Komatsu Azzurro at the start resulted in Komatsu Azzurro retiring. Black Jack 100 lead the fleet out of the Heads followed by Wild Oats XI and Wild Oats X. Black Jack 100 won line honours and G.O. was the overall winner.

Part of my journey will not only being prepared physically and ensuring that Wahine is in proper working order, but also to mentally prepare.
