This episode we explore from our anchorage at South West Rocks in the Osborne Islands region the Arches, Snake Valley, Apartments, Birds & Buzzard Falls Firstly we check out the "Arches", a set of large natural stone arches that give a very picturesque window looking back over the bay. Taking the tender further east we check out the huge 7m snake Aboriginal Art , before moving to the "Apartments” (also known as Castle Rock). This cave is a series of interconnecting caves formed under a rock outcrop. Just a little further upstream we explore the "Bird Paintings", a row of 24 Aboriginal Art animals. They could be fish, or birds. Some look like penguins. With the rising tide we float the tender up over the rock bar before walking up towards Buzzard Falls. WHO ARE WE? We’re Chris and Jo and we have been living on our Seawind 1260 since January 2019. In our first year we bring our yacht down the east coast of Australia and sail it out to New Caledonia. After cruising further north up the east coast of Australia in 2020, we decide to circumnavigate Australia during 2021 and 2022. We had previously owned fishing and water skiing boats, but after a couple years crewing in South Australia we decided to jump right in and make a sea change. We are just an ordinary Aussies couple exploring what this great world has to offer and hope that we can inspire others just as we were by watching other YouTube channels to follow our dreams. After removing the wardrobes from the forward head today we got on to make it look better before we fit temporary shelving for tools and parts. That meant first cutting a hole in the bulkhead for the backing plate for the forward lower shroud. Then cutting away the remaining tabbing from the wardrobe, cleaning, sanding, acetone and then paint. By which time it was after 5pm and the promised rain had arrived. Yesterday's gravel causeway worked well when we went to B&Q for some shelf support timber and got Fish and Chips on the way back (all during heavy rain). This is our 5th short daily vlogs of our progress during this half term. Two years ago, when we bought Vida she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings (much of it not working). We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all electric (motor, cooking etc). All the rigging is being replaced with Dyneema and we are significantly re-working the cabins. Boy, am I glad I removed those bolts. They were all rusty and one in particular was almost rusted through. Anyway I finally get them and the pad off the boat and also have a really productive day, taking advantage of some warmer weather. Another big job I tick off the list is getting all of the woodworkd sanding right back and re oiled. Lulu looks amazing after doing that and the hull now really needs a polish to equal her out!!! Taking a sailboat down the American Locks at Sault Ste. Marie (The Soo) is always a grand adventure. They are not only an important shipping link between Lake Superior and the lower Great Lakes, but also a popular tourist attraction. People come from all over to see the huge freighters and smaller vessels lock through. So, when you’re taking your own boat through here, it’s usually done with an audience. The sheer size of the American Locks is impressive. The recreational traffic uses the smaller MacArthur Lock, which is 800-feet (240 m) long and situated closest to the visitors’ stand. However, while it certainly is BIG, Vicki and I find it quite easy to use by a two-handed crew. We have previously posted a YouTube video (Going Down the Canadian Lock at Sault Ste. Marie — SV Freelance Ep. 20) about how to go through the much smaller Canadian Lock at Sault Ste. Marie. That lock is operated as a historic site by Parks Canada, and is even easier to use for recreational boats than the bigger MacArthur Lock. Satellite images by Google Earth.

We've installed Aptos 440-watt bifacial solar panels and are satisfied despite uncertain results. Continuous cloudy days at marina full of sailboats. Non-optimal panel angling for southern sun exposure, given the fall season and boat/RV roof mounting, haven't yielded ideal conditions. However, they almost outperformed our LG 375-watt panels in peak sun. During our 4-day testing, one Aptos 440-watt bifacial solar panel produced 400 peak watts of power. Two Aptos 440-watt solar panels in parallel generated 3.3 Kwh by 12:00 before clouds and rain moved in. However, our Victron 100/50 mppt charge controller and 12V battery bank limited the potential of the two solar panels to 700 watts. We will, of course, be living with the 2 Aptos solar panels, so there will be future results. The flat mounting of the solar panels will also be more ideal in the Caribbean. We hope to head there shortly, but the two hurricanes have gotten in the way. A brief look back: Intermer’s headquarters, which serves as the central hub of the AD Nautic network internationally, is built on an organization established in the 1970s. ► Formerly known as Accastillage Diffusion, the brand has adopted an international name while retaining its logo featuring the two shackles.
