What has become the second leg for the Class 40 fleet started at 1300 hours local time on Saturday. The teams had taken an enforced break from racing in Spain after the organisers decided the conditions were set to be too rough for the smaller boats. This has split their race into two parts, where the cumulative time from both races decides the overall winner. After leaving the docks in La Coruña, the teams set off upwind in a brisk breeze on port tack, to exit the Bay of Biscay and start their Atlantic crossing towards the finish line in Martinique. Enjoy the footage of the departure, then we take a look at the trackers to see how the race is unfolding in the Ultim, Ocean50, IMOCA and Class 40 fleets. It was a week ago that we woke up to the dramatic news that three of the Ocean50 trimarans had capsized in the 12 hours after their start. They’d set off last Saturday, a day earlier than the other three fleets, trying to avoid the worst of the conditions. We’ve received incredible footage of the Lazare crew rescue, and also some video of Koesio being lifted off the beach in Guernsey, then righted with cranes, to be taken back to their home ports to assess the damage and make repairs. We finish today's update with an update from Francesca Clapcich and Will Harris on the IMOCA 11th Hour Racing. Thumbnail photo (c) Yann Riou / polaRYSE #sailing #ultim #imoca #class40 #ocean50

The newly-crowned Australian 18ft skiff champion Balmain team of Henry Larkings, Tom Grimes and Lachlan Pryor continued the winning form from last weekend when they produced an awesome performance in a 10-14-knot North East breeze to win the President’s Trophy Australian 18 Footers League Season Pointscore race on Sydney Harbour today. With their big #1 rig working perfectly, the team grabbed a narrow lead at the weather mark on the second lap of the course and powered away from the fleet on the following spinnaker run down the centre of the course to the bottom mark. From that point the team had total control of the race and went on to score a comfortable victory. At the finish, Balmain defeated Club Marine (Emma Rankin, Brandon Buyink and Jed Cruikshank) by one minute, with Yandoo (Tom Needham, Miles Davey and Lewis Brake) a further 14s back in third place. In a closely-bunched group, Vaikobi (Kirk Mitchell) finished fourth ahead of Killer Coffee Co (Cam McDonald). A gallant Lazarus Capital Partners (Tom Cunich) was next with her smaller #2 rig followed by Shaw and Partners Financial Services (Jordan Girdis), also with the smaller rig. Uncertainty in the rigging area about the likely wind strength of the Nor’Easter sent several crews to their smaller #2 rigs before the start. When the breeze failed to strengthen throughout most of the race, it was a move which proved too costly to overcome. The current Giltinan world champion Yandoo team got off to a poor start and tacked away shortly after the start while the Shaw and Partners team led narrowly from a group which included Vaikobi and Balmain. At the first set of weather marks, Lazarus took advantage of sailing to the blue (shortest) buoy and grabbed the lead from Shaw and Partners and Vaikobi, while Sixt (Jacob Marks) also took advantage of the blue buoy to move into fourth place ahead of Balmain. Despite the disadvantage of running downwind with her #2 rig, Lazarus retained her lead at the wing mark off Shark Island and also overcame a slow spinnaker drop at the bottom mark at Clark Island to still lead the fleet by 10s from Balmain, but with the breeze remaining light it was obvious that Balmain was going to over-power the leader on the following beat to the weather mark. Vaikobi was in third place just ahead of Sixt. Shaw and Partners led the next group which included The Oak Double Bay-4 Pines (Hugo Stoner), Club Marine and Yandoo. Lazarus was impressive in the unfavourable conditions and managed to hold off the strong challenge from the bigger rigged Balmain team, but finally succumbed to the pressure as the pair approached the weather marks where Balmain held a 15s advantage. Balmain has been strong downwind in similar conditions this season and she never looked more impressive than on the following run directly to the Clark Island mark where she had extended her lead to 1m25s. From that point the Australian champion team was in total control and held a 1m15s lead at the final weather mark before cruising home a one minute victor Today’s result sheet and current point scores in the series, along with SailMedia images from today’s racing, are attached. Race 1 next Sunday will be the traditional Queen of the Waves race which will be followed by another 3-buoys pointscore race. The League’s usual spectator ferry will follow the races and SailMedia will live stream all the action with expert commentary from the course. New bikinis, new fender, what else is new this week on Isabella? We are on S/V Isabella a Super Mikado 56 manufactured in France by C.N.S.O. (Constructions Nautiques du Sud-Ouest). Isabella is a sailing ketch and is considered a 1990/2010 model. It has four private cabins, an engine room, salon, galley, and three heads with two separate shower stalls. The hull is fiberglass and is considered a bluewater cruiser. Isabella has a excellent capsize ratio of 1.68 and a very good comfort ratio of 42.19. She is equipped with Garmin / Raymarine electronics and has hydraulic steering. The naval architect was Michel Bigoin who also designed the largest sailboat in the world which was manufactured in 1976 and called Phocea. It was a 246 foot four masted steel schooner and was considered the largest private sailing yacht in the world until 2004. A big blow the other night with reported gusts of up to 60 mph pushed Isabella against the dock causing one of the fenders to be ripped away leaving only remnants of the top portion. We have never experienced that before, so weird. Luckily we found a replacement fender and it was on sale, yea! Karen has two new bikinis that she modeled for Steve. Let us know in the comments which one you like best. We spruced up the galley by adding a fan to keep things cooler. Wires from an existing light had to be snaked through the ceiling to connect the fan. Unfortunately, while removing the existing light it self disintegrated. Guess what we did? Yep, continued sprucing up the galley by adding new lights. DIY always brings its own set of surprises. Weekly maintenance includes cleaning out the strainers for the reverse cycle units. What’s not included is what different objects can be found in the strainers. This time, our front AC unit strainer contained a lively crab, a fish and a couple of baby oysters. All visitors from the sea were alive and well and promptly returned to water. Being somewhat near Savannah we have started preparation for moving to Texas in a few months and discussed cruising considerations in the comfort of the cockpit. Wind is a large portion of planning, the speed and direction all impact the sailing experience and progress. The Gulf Stream is another factor. We will be going against the current flow which can slow down our travel considerably. Waves can make the journey comfortable or miserable depending on their height and period (the time it takes for a wave to complete a cycle and indicates how far apart waves are spaced). There is a lot more that goes into the planning process and that’s for future episodes. Subscribers we are always thrilled to have you aboard and appreciate your support more than you know. 😘Thank you all for joining us on this episode of Sailing Intermission. Here is part 2 of this grand adventure! I normally take pics of how I took it apart and put it back together, but.. I did the other side, so that made me an expert, right?!... umm.... NO.. lol I totally had to do it like a puzzle. But, it all worked out in the end. Could not believe the difference after simply cleaning and greasing it all up. Stoked that it's gonna be good for another 5 or 10 years. :D

In this video, The crew of Element, living aboard a Catana 471 Catamaran, continue to spend their first Winter off-season in the Setur Marina of Finike, Turkey. After their first season of sailing in the Mediterranean, they discover their solar panel charging system is not working properly after just having been replaced, during their initial refit of Element. After some investigation, repairs are needed and valuable lessons are learned. Upon successfully resolving the solar charging issues (at least for the short term), the family crew explores the Lycian and Roman ruins of Myra and seeks out the original chapel of St. Nicholas (Santa Claus) in Demre on December 6th, the anniversary of his death. We later take a stroll through the "old town" quarter of Antalya while we process our temporary residence permits. Attempting to get into the holiday spirit, the Finike international cruising community decides they want a taste of Winter by visiting a nearby ski hill at Saklikent. The record of shipwrecks in Rhode Island begins immediately after the arrival of Europeans in the early 17th century with the grounding of a Dutch trading vessel, and thousands more vessels came to grief in its waters in the following centuries, through bad weather, human error, equipment failure, and military action. Some of these shipwrecks were epic disasters, with many fatalities and the total loss of the vessel; others were relatively minor misfortunes in which the ships were salvageable. Come see the dramatic pictures and hear the fascinating stories of a select sample of shipwrecks! Charlotte Taylor is the author of Images of America: Rhode Island Shipwrecks, published in 2017. She is an archaeologist at the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission, where her job includes maintaining an inventory of the location and condition of the state's shipwrecks (and very occasionally diving on them!).

#MaseratiMulti70 #RORCTransatlanticRace Sito web: https://maserati.soldini.it/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/giovannisoldini/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/giovanni_soldini/ Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/giovannisoldini/
