It was supposed to be a heavyweight bout between Chris Bake’s Team Aqua and Vladimir Prosikhin’s Team Nika. These two, among the oldest, most successful teams in the high performance one design monohull class, started the 44Cup Palma, the final event of the season, separated by just one point at the top of the 2019 44Cup leaderboard. Behind them Igor Lah’s Team CEEREF went into the 44Cup Palma five points off the lead with Aleph Racing of Hugues Lepic a further point behind. However this non-discardable final event of the season was to prove surprisingly dire for both the leaders who, against all expectation, began today’s final day of racing in last place. Meanwhile, two other teams were excelling – Nico Poons’ Charisma, the 2018 defending 44Cup champion, and Igor Lah’s Team CEEREF, winner in 2016-17.

T3 Lesson 1 Y7 Charts and Buoys - Mr Bew Charts and buoys are essential tools used in marine navigation to help ensure the safe passage of vessels through waterways. Charts are maps specifically designed for use by mariners, and they provide information on water depths, navigational hazards, and the location of navigational aids such as buoys and beacons. They also include information on coastal features, landmarks, and other relevant information that may be useful for navigation. Buoys, on the other hand, are floating devices that are anchored to the seabed and used to mark specific locations in the water. They can indicate the presence of navigational hazards, such as rocks, shoals, or wrecks, and can also help guide vessels along safe shipping channels. Buoys come in a variety of types and colors, each with its own specific meaning. For example, red buoys indicate the right side of a channel when traveling upstream, while green buoys indicate the left side. Yellow buoys may indicate caution, while white buoys may indicate safe water. Overall, charts and buoys are critical tools for safe marine navigation, and mariners should be familiar with their use and meaning to ensure safe passage through waterways.

Waking up in Port Resolution we found No Regrets covered in volcanic ash after a wind whist during the night. After washing off as much as we could, we sailed a short distance north to Waisisi Bay. We go ashore and meet the Tom, his father the chief, and Dick before the village comes to welcome us. We provide some welcoming gifts with our football (soccer ball) getting a HUGE response. After getting a guide around the village we swim with the children on the very black sand beach. The following morning we come ashore to watch the excited children that had been up since first light playing enjoying their new football. We had previously owned fishing and water skiing boats, but after a couple years crewing in South Australia we decided to jump right in and make a sea change.
