We arrived at the perfect time in Beaufort; it was Memorial Day weekend and many of Brown’s friends from Woodberry Forest and UNC were in town. Jess sent out the word that Brown Councill had returned to NC and it seemed to spread like wildfire. Our plan was to head out to Shackleford Banks for the day and set up a rendezvous point, but the winds were so strong that everyone decided that descending on Taylor’s Creek and tying up to “the beast” was the best alternative. At one point, we had 6 boats across and our cruising friends could not believe the sight. Everyone brought their own food and drinks and bussed their trash. I have never seen our boat look better after 30+ people visited. It was incredible. The most amazing thing was getting to meet all of Brown’s friends, their wives and families for the first time. I have never met a nice group of guys who loved on us throughout their visit. It was incredibly special to experience this. And, to see my husband smiling ear to ear the whole day was a huge gift to me. The reason it's quite a fat stand is so that it reduces the forces on the hull under pressure.
