In order to give ourselves a larger engine bed and plenty of room to work, we're eating into our storage space by moving the bulkhead forward. We find ourselves doing more odd jobs lately, which only take a few minutes here and there, but always mean we're moving forward to the next thing. One of the bigger projects we took on though was defining the space for our engine bed. With the specific bulkhead placements from Max Cruise, we had originally started planning out the space for our engine bed based on what was in the drawings. But because we're still debating which direction we're going with propulsion, and we want to allow ourselves as much room as possible in that space, we've decided to make it bigger! Join us for this episode as we place in bulkhead 7 - and get a good feel for the space of where our engines will go. And with Matt inside the area, you can also get a feel for how large the sleeping space will be in the aft bunk. Plus, a little fun in real time (October 6) we went sailing with our friends Rodger and Sally on their boat out in the Chesapeake, and even had the chance to see Coast Guard Cutter 'Eagle' come in and drop the hook in front of us. Enjoy!! ****ANNAPOLIS 2021 SAILBOAT SHOW YOUTUBE BOOTH SCHEDULE***** Thursday October 14 - 2:00-3:00 Friday October 15 - 3:00-4:00 Saturday October 16 - 5:00-6:30 Sunday October 17 - 2:00-3:00 Monday October 18 - 12:00-1:00 Much love from Annapolis! *Bringing Yabá from wreck to dreamy! Episode 228* In this episode of Yabá's journey we face the roughest sea so far. We encountered waves with the bowsprit diving underwater and things don't go the way we planned: we had to turn around because our mast snapped off. During the rough journey, a loud noise revealed that the tip of our mast had broken off and was hanging by the nav light wire. Despite the challenge, Yabá held strong, and we gained valuable insight into her handling in high seas. 👉 *SUBSCRIBE* to follow along: (https://bit.ly/3dI3hBn) *Support Our Project:* - *Become a Patron* for exclusive content (https://www.patreon.com/sailingyaba) - *Donate via PayPal* (https://bit.ly/3kR4Ezo) or sailingyaba@gmail.com - *Shop Our Products* (https://shopsailingyaba.com/) - *Get Our Favorite Tools* (https://www.amazon.com/shop/sailingyaba) We’re incredibly grateful to everyone supporting our dream! ❤️ 🇧🇷 Legendas em Português em todos os episódios! 🇪🇸 Subtítulos en español en todos los episodios! *Who Are We?* We’re Ben and MP, a couple who purchased a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil that was sinking and in desperate need of a refit. For more information about Open House and to get updates, visit this page: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/visitor-welcome We've had a history of talented, kind, supportive crew here. They're more than employees, of course. KP came to us by way of a long-time friendship with Annie B. They met in high school, and somehow both ended up working in the wooden boat world. KP comes to Acorn to Arabella with both sailing and carpentry experience, and has their 100 ton captain's license as well. After a couple of summers on schooner Mary Day out of Camden and then attending Carpenter's Boat Shop in 2004 in Pemaquid, Maine. We'll see KP's favorite tools, too. Through KP's orientation, you'll also get a peek into the next steps for Arabella in the coming few months. What's up with the rest of the planking? What about laying the deck? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve started as an amateur boat builder building a 38' wooden boat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Beam’s Dream is clinically shown to improve sleep. Click https://shopbeam.com/sailingprojectatticus and use code ATTICUS to shop my exclusive discount and get up to 35% off. The ocean can get Terrifyingly shitty. The worst I’ve been in is mid 40 knots offshore which in the grand scheme of things is not a very big deal and that was extremely uncomfortable and scary But to imagine the fury of the ocean Tropical storm or even hurricane force conditions at sea is beyond comprehension. I’ve read accounts of waves that look like mountains, winds that tear apart any amount of sail, and motion so rough that the only thing you can do is strap yourself to your bunk and just pray. Back in the day Sailors like the Pardeys had no choice but to prepare their boat for these worst possible conditions. But now with modern technology and even Artificial Intelligence, are those days over? Can we now set sail over the horizon confident that we will avoid those worst case scenarios? And, if we are patient enough, can we avoid uncomfortable weather all together? This week we’re going to investigate these questions as we install systems on the boat that incorporate cutting edge technology in an attempt to make our sailing adventures safer and more comfortable. But before we get to that we’ve got some routine maintenance and improvements we want to tackle. For centuries, the haitian fishermen have been building their wooden sailboats to go fish and provide for their families and villages. They would decorate their boats with bright colors, and use whatever they could find to create sails. The Haiti Sailing Cup has for main mission to help the village of Cap Haitian and promote its local economy. This year, they are taking it to the next level, with more boats and more involvement. I believe this project has so much potential, and it is up to us to help make a difference. Thanks to Our 200 TEAM UMA members, Including Precision Sails, we were able to have our very own team this year and help provide more sails and outboards to the fishermen. Let's start distracting from that green foam, by adding shiny molded pieces to the build. After last week's boat show feature, we're now jumping back in a time a few weeks to late September, where Matt and I begin the first step of what is going to help us get our transom on. By bonding in our sill, which separates the cockpit from the salon, we add a lot of strength to the bridge deck and really set it in place. There's a few steps needed to strengthen it before it goes down, but when that time does come, we have new help!! Our new friend Ryan, and his friend Burt, managed to schedule two weeks to come out and help us with the build. Our main goal during their time with us was to get the 25ft wide transom bonded on, but as you'll see over the next few episodes, there's just a few steps we need to take before we get there. Enjoy! Much love from Annapolis! For years we have dreamed of arriving the Caribbean with our own sailboat, just like we've read in many books. The problem is that many times in life when we dream of something for so long we create our own reality and when the dream comes through it's often a lot less exciting than we'd have imagined. Well, this was not the case. I think all the books underestimated the beautiful color of the Caribbean water. I don't think I will ever get used to it. This week we explored Saint Vincent and Granadines in the Caribbean, the beautiful island well know for its kitesurf called Frigate and we sailed to Tobago Keys, that's like an aquarium. We also had a great sail back to Grenada. Well, this video is not just about the places we visited, but it's also about what we felt about all these places and people we met. Friends in this episode: @TaylorsTravels @kiki_terrels (insta) future youtube channel: Kricket's Creations https://www.youtube.com/@kricketscreations7230 Good explanation about the vulcano situation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ce3y7sT1tXk&t=115s Filmed in: January 2022 We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Check out our website to know more about it https://www.oddlifecrafting.com/blog We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. Maintaining a 40-year-old sailboat can be mentally draining. To be successful, not only do you need be a good electrician, diesel mechanic, plumber, seamstress, cook, project manager and sailor, it also doesn’t hurt to be a good bartender. We tackle a pile of projects in the episode, including reinstalling the chainplates, recoring a part the deck, creating a mold of the nonskid, rerigging our forestay and sewing a canvas extension panel between the bimini and dodger. Maggie Duff is a Edey and Duff built, Phil Bolger designed Bird of Dawning leeboard yawl. She's been converted to a Sloop under the direction of the designer. Her unique features include the hull design, the unstayed and tabernackled carbon mast, leeboards, and a transom-hung retractable rudder to name a few. You won't see many sailboats like this one, and that's why I think she's so special. She's also relatively affordable for a vessel this size at an asking price of $50,000. WELCOME TO PARADISE!!! https://www.sailingnandji.com In this episode, WE ARE FREE!!! We have been dreaming of cruising around these islands for the last 18 months of being stuck. I honestly think that it was the thought of arriving to the Mentawai islands of Indonesia was what helped us get through our time in Malaysia! After a few little hurdles to navigate upon arrival, we made clearance and wasted no time to get out to the islands. This is the beauty of living on a boat, being able to change our backyard by going sailing! We are in the wet season though so our backyard is going to change often as we constantly have to seek shelter for the night. A task happily completed as after not moving for such a long time, we are happy to pick anchor multiple times a day to have fun!! Living on our small boat for sure has its challenges at times, but what we lack in house size, we try to make up for with adventure as we want to live life to the fullest and share this with our beautiful daughter. #sailing #sailingaroundtheworld #boatlife #tinyhome #offgrid Grab some Sailing Nandji merch and help support our channel https://sailingnandji-shop.com I recommend the coffee mug 👌 If you are enjoying our videos, sign up to Patreon to help support us, our production and the adventures. After two months on board, Simon is leaving Karl to head back home to Canada. It's been super fun to have him as crew and we had a great time sailing and exploring together. Simon left just before xmas and I went home for a short last minute xmas visit, leaving Karl on his two anchors in Bahía Solano. The next step is to solo sail down to Ecuador, but first it's time to explore this beautiful place first. Join me in the adventures of living aboard, cruising and racing my 1982 C&C 34 here in the Vancouver, BC region. I never bought s/v Moonshine with the intention of living aboard, but sometimes things just make sense. So January 1st, 2014 I moved her to a live-aboard marina and began my new life of simplified living. I still cruise, will do the odd race and one day hope to sail away into the sunset for much broader adventures! I would love to hear from others out there who share the same interests and would be happy to answer any questions if can. We all have lines on the boat that need to be put away, but still be ready go at a moments notice. Here is a neat method for coiling a line that eliminates that annoying twist and tangle. Credit for this coiling method goes out to a good friend of mine who taught me it. www.lifeislikesailing.com www.facebook.com/lifeislikesailing

Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. This part of Fiji is considered the most remote in Fiji. There is no customs and immigration there hence our first stop on the main island. But hey, the harder you work for something the more it is worth it right? Well our first stop, the Bay of Islands, on Vanua Balavu, was a perfect first intro to the island group. It is breathtakingly beautiful with calm and secluded anchorages and millions of shallow little bays connected by tiny passages. It was like our own personal water world. What a start to this seasons tropical cruising! Sustenance living in the villages means every family and village has a garden and they provide well for themselves. With so much growing in abundance in the warm tropical climate we were able to trade just a little bit.

For more reviews test data and captain's report of Mako boats, go to http://www.boattest.com/boats/boat_video.aspx?ID=2660 Originally built as work boats capable of carrying a heavy load of nets or traps across shallow, protected coastal waters, traditional skiff designs share characteristics that include a flat or nearly flat bottom with a broad beam for the boat's length, and a blunt bow. Recreational anglers find those same features favorable for negotiating shallows while fishing protected waters where there is not the need for a traditional vee'd hull to tackle rough water on a regular basis. The skiff category has become popular as interest in in-shore light tackle saltwater fishing has grown. The Pro 17 Skiff CC is one of three skiff configurations Mako offers in 2012, which include a 17 tiller model, a 16 foot center console and an 18 foot Light Tackle version, with a new, shallow-running hull design. The engine has gone 800 hours and it is time to clean the heat exchanger and change the coolant fluid. It is always a big mess to let out the coolant and this time I also remove the heat exchanger cooling pipe held in place by two rubber boots or sleeves. But as you know one problem leads to the next one and this time it's no exception. The system rinse must be done every 400 hours according to the manual and the coolant must be changed every 2. year to protect the system against corrosion. The brass cooling unit must lie in vinegar a day or two to remove any deposits in and around the cooling pipes.
