If there is a road going around the whole island, how could you resist driving on it to discover the attractions the island offers? We toured the island clockwise and visited the many small attractions available. Some sites like Nan Madol and long hikes are best done on different days otherwise you won't have time to finish the circumnavigation in one day! We included the town of Kolonia at the beginning and the end of this island tour but you can also do these sightseeings on a different day. Sharks, heights, deep diving all no problem but I am happy to admit when I am scared! This fast little boat definitely got the best of me on our first solo trimaran sail😱. We do our best to not include our personal drama in these videos but if there is an issue and we figure out how to get over it we are happy to share. My advice to you: Figure out what terrifies you and WHY then learn the things you can control to fix it. For example, I was(am) scared of how fast this boat goes because things can go wrong so much faster when you are going so fast. How am I getting over it? I am learning how to control the boat, sail it on my own, and practice man overboard drills just in case! I am getting there! Not only are we in the water, but WE'RE SAILING!!! In this vlog we finish up a couple projects and start making our way out of the canal and into Charlotte Harbor. We installed a brand new Electric Yacht motor and twelve Lithium Battleborn batteries not long ago, so this passage is the first real open water test of all of the new systems. We also have 600W of Renogy solar panels that are new. It's just one big shakedown as we're learning how everything will work in the real world out on the water. So far we're quite happy with how the motor, batteries and panels are performing. We're stoked to have a boat that is as close to "off-the-grid" as it can get. We don't have to carry any type of fuel onboard. We never need to fill a diesel, propane, or gasoline tank, and to us that's quite liberating. The Atlantic crossing is getting closer but before heading back to Mindelo we visit a couple of more anchorages. We celebrate Halloween on the beach with sailing friends and then sail to the uninhabited island Santa Luzia. Back in Mindelo we prepare the last things for the crossing but then our gut feelings tells us that we should wait for a better weather forecast. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds takes us. Crystal clear water surrounds the islands in the Bahamas, but you can’t drink a lick of it. No surprise, it’s salty. The islands themselves have virtually no groundwater either, so where does it come from? There’s three options: It’s either shipped in, desalinated, or collected from the sky. Without a watermaker, our typical routine is to bring jerry cans ashore to fill up with freshwater. In the United States, water is often available for free, especially with a fuel fillup or marina stay. In the Bahamas, the precious resource usually costs around $0.50/gallon. It rains a ton in the islands, so we decide to start taking advantage. Our efforts are modest, but the amount of water we do collect gives us enough to wash a bunch of laundry, the dishes a half dozen times over, and ourselves. Hope you enjoy! In 2013 we were making our way up the Oregon coast when our friends the RV Geeks reached out and told us “you gotta stop by Waldport, we built a website for McKinley’s campground and they’d love to have a video to share about crabbing.” We did a little research on the campground and it turned out they sell shellfish licenses, rent boats, crab rings and everything else we’d need to “do it ourselves”. We were hooked on the idea and we promptly directed our RV north. The Oregon coast is simply breathtaking and it was our first crabbing experience and it was perfect! Thanks to McKinley's for hosting us and we can honestly say this small family owned park is worth a visit, especially if you like crabbing, clamming, nature and Rogue Beer (their HQ is just up the road!).
