These little flipping windows are very close to the waterline, and would be a huge problem in an open ocean, with the pressure exerted by big waves. in this episode I attempt to refurbish them with parts from the local DIY and Boat shops, while also tackling some other important jobs on my project Catamaran. enjoy! Get ready to cross the Corinth Canal with us. Such an amazing experience, it was a mix of nerves, excitement and just pure bliss as we were going through. This is a video of our recent trip from Vanuatu (Port Vila) to New Caledonia (Noumea) where we were caught in winds double the predicted strength. The wind was at Force 8 (Beaufort 8) and reaching into Force 9 (Beaufort 9) during squalls. Of course a camera can never capture the real vibe and size of waves and sea state, but we are sure you will see Impi 'going for it'. Also included in this video, are some of the techniques we use when approaching reef entrances at night where we need to 'stave off' for day light ... and how we manage the systems onboard Impi to 'rest safely'. We hope you enjoy this passage with us!

This episode marks not only the end of Season , but also fills you all in on a period of time that shook our world and left us reeling. As a channel we always want to remain transparent about the reality of living on the ocean and also the fact that even though we might appear to be 'living the dream', the nightmares of life will still happen. It's how you deal with them and that after the dust settles you go back to a life that you love that is what counts. Thanks to everyone who has been there for us...knowingly or unknowingly. Come along with us to MS Fabrication in Dorchester, Massachusetts, where Evan Kelly takes the three dimensional templates we built a couple of weeks back and turns them into stainless steel water tanks. In this episode, we'll follow one tank through that process, and you'll get to see it mostly tack welded together. The tools he uses are impressively large and capable of doing a much better (and faster!) job than what we could have pulled off. We're very thankful to Evan, and hope you give him a shout should you need something fixed or fabricated. He's very talented and a joy to work with. We lost a close and beloved friend last week, and Ben put together a tribute to her. Perhaps understandably, Anne couldn't read it herself. We might not have formally introduced Anne to the channel yet, but you'll be able to glean more than a bit about her from this short biography of her best friend. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve started as an amateur boat builder building a 38' wooden boat in Steve's backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when he will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that he's built. Consider supporting our videos by becoming a Patron here: https://patreon.com/projectatticus?utm_medium=unknown&utm_source=join_link&utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator&utm_content=copyLink So the fact is that there are a lot of scary things that can happen to us as we sail the world. We can get hit by a rouge wave or a massive gale. We could drag anchor into dangerous shore. We could get struck by lightning or start taking on water. But of all the things that could happen, the one that scares me the most is someone falling overboard. It’s one thing if we’re motoring in a flat calm But sailing with 6 foot waves and 18 knots of wind, if one of us falls overboard, the odds are very low that that person will survive. By the time the person still on the boat is able to react and do an emergency heave to to stop the boat, we could be a quarter of a mile away. And trying to spot a person from that distance, floating among moderately sized waves is nearly impossible. So while we do have a plan in place if someone falls overboard, we put most of our effort into making sure that we avoid that situation entirely. And we have several systems in place to make sure we stay safely on the boat. But those systems aren’t adequate for our newest smallest crew member. So this week we’re going to install a system that should ensure that everyone on board stays onboard. Bringing Yabá from wreck to dreamy! Episode 19 In this episode, we show how a huge schooner can be manoeuvred in the dry, using only pulleys and a jack! PLUS: we start building our new planks!! Soon our hull will be like new! We can't wait for that day to arrive. We know there's a lot of building to do still but we are so ready for it! ༄ We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted 70ft wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. PREPARE YOURSELF.... Prepare your imagination to run wild with the countless places, activities and adventures you could have on all corners of the globe with a hull form like this! If your subscribe button doesn’t have a D on the end, then click that button now to follow along the journey 😁 After checking into Albania and exploring Sarande, this week we head south to Ksamil Islands for a few nights to dodge some wind and swell rolling into the harbor. Ksamil Islands are absolutely amazing and not only are we the only boat anchored in the whole area, but every morning/afternoon we had the beach all to ourselves, with the exception of a puppy we found! After an amazing week exploring the islands and swimming everyday, we check out of Sarande heading north to explore some more incredible anchorages along the coast of Albania. Albania coast guard info: To check into Albania you need an agent. We emailed our agent a few nights prior (details in the video) and only needed to call on VHF as we entered into the harbor. We then needed to inform our agent that we were going to Ksamil islands for 3 nights then returning to Sarande. Upon arriving at Ksamil islands and anchoring we received a friendly wave from a coast guard, then when returning to Sarande to leave for the final time we checked out of the port with our agent and informed them of our next port, Durres, but we will be anchoring the whole way up the coast along the way. It was that simple! Please Like and Subscribe to follow our journey as we sail up the coast in Albania! Hope you enjoy this little snippet of our lives each week. https://www.patreon.com/user?u=19042899 Oh the wonders of taking to the seas for the first time, oh the adventures to be had and the future that now lies ahead of us. I know one thing for sure, its going to be salty, exciting and scary. But first we must recycle and repair our rotten little boat. In this video we sail through the Whitsunday Islands on a boat that we had spent a whole dollar on. Prepping ourselves for the next few weeks of blood sweat and tears on the hardstand, while we rip out the rotten wood on this glass / ply catamaran, so that she can now have a new life in our hands. All of the music in this video was created by us, so if you like our content don't forget to hit that subscribe button, to see where the journey takes us. - A little bit about us: "The Mer & The Man is a marine conservation based project aiming to support the mission of greater worldwide ocean sanctuary and protection. Our goal is to help shed light and encourage action on current global environmental issues the ocean is facing. These environmental issues will be the core of our conservation content within our adventure blog 'The Mer And The Man’. The issues we will be covering include; Plastic Pollution, The Fossil Fuel Industry, The Health Of The Great Barrier Reef, Ending The War On Sharks, and Education and Awareness. A little bit about us… Emily is 21 and currently studying a marine and environmental science degree and is a passionate free diver and ocean conservationist. Sage is 21 and has lived on his dads boat for 10 years and has salt running through veins and a very enthusiastic way of being. When we met we decided we wanted to live on the ocean together, go on crazy adventures and raise awareness about important issues at the same time. Bringing Yabá from wreck to dreamy! Episode 145 In this episode of our boat restoration, we finally test our overhauled engine after so much sweat and heart that was put into it. We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way. We did the whole minimalist thing on Atticus one and we had some amazing experiences on that boat. But the desire to enjoy the comforts of modern amenities was always with us and we experienced a strong pull to someday move ashore. Our goal with Atticus 2 is to build a floating home where with fewer compromises and where we can raise our family for years to come, and where we don’t feel like we’re missing out by not moving ashore. With the the LEQ12, the AC40 and the AC75, it’s easy to see why the 37th America’s Cup is widely considered to be the most technically complex Cup cycle. With some teams choosing to run all three boats, managing a modern campaign is a demanding logistical and technical challenge. In the 4th episode of a series, which was commissioned by Yanmar (www.youtube.com/@YANMARMarine) we take a look at the boats involved in this Cup cycle and find out what role they play on the road to the 37th America’s Cup. Road to 37th America's Cup is produced in association with Yanmar who commissioned this series. www.youtube.com/@YANMARMarine https://www.youtube.com/@yanmarglobal2601 https://www.yanmar.com/global/about/sports/marine_sports/sponsored/americas_cup/

Every time I go to do a boat project and I am not 100% sure of the process I go to the web and search for how other folks have accomplished it. In some cases, I would find some information and in a lot of cases I wouldn't find what I was looking for when it came to doing this work specifically on a boat. Here in this video, I am going to review how we refinish and varnish the boat interior for that "glass like" finish.

We continue our test sail on the Kraken 50 in the Sea of Marmara, Turkey. The task of the day is to push the boat to almost it's breaking point and see whether it can handle it! We were obviously happy to oblige and lend a helping hand in sailing it as hard as we could. At the end of the day we pulled into the seaside town of Erdik, where Dick (unknowingly) volunteered for a traditional Turkish beauty treatment. Looking crisp and clean, we continued our journey the next day and started heading towards home. The gaps in Arabella's planking are getting much smaller... and soon they will be no more. We are pushing hard to close up the hull with Carolyn's help before she moves on. The shutter planks are a pretty exciting part of the build. There are only two of them, and they need to be perfect as they will have to be a driven in to fit on the first try. In a way, this means there are tighter tolerances than we've had to deal with for previously installed planks. No straps for edge setting, and not a lot of room for error. Simultaneously, we're doing small, but mightily important, tasks to set ourselves up for the next big things—most notably, the main mast build and the lamination of the cabin house sides. The coming weeks are going to be pretty exciting as we close up the planking and put the finishes on the mizzen mast! Thank you for watching! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. The worst night of our lives is only followed by more hard news. Dealing with the aftermath of a disaster in a foreign country is not easy... https://www.sailingnandji.com/ This video was filmed early Febuary before the global pandemic really took off. Thailand was one of the first countries affected and we took the adequate precautions early to protect ourselves. If you would like to contribute towards Nandji's repairs please use this link. Thank you. http://paypal.me/SailingNandji If you are getting something out of our videos, please become a Patron to help support our production and adventures. Get Unseen footage, Exclusive vids and the inside scoop! http://www.patreon.com/Nandji In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we have arrived back to Thailand after saving our boat from a near ship wreck experience. We had so many fortunes to take out of this bad experience and that allowed us to save our vessel and reach the boat yard without sinking. This was the worse night of our lives and the most scariest situation we have had to deal with. We were lucky to keep our boat floating and lucky to get to the boat yard. However the struggles are only just beginning. We had cleared out of Thailand to sail to another country and then we emergency returned without visiting another country. This made more problems than we could have imagined... Thailand is a beautiful country with friendly warm people and amazing scenery. It is a lovely country and a fun place to be until things go wrong. We are now faced with dealing with the bureaucracy of a disaster in a foreign country. With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off from Australia sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra to live the island life and chase the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we returned to Thailand to wait for the weather and begin our journey to the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! The adventure is just beginning as we plan to sail our Nandji girl around the world!! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm offshore. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades around the World! I look back at this video and think that I was overacting a little bit but, at the time I was genuinely concerned for the safety of the boat. I'd just moved on board and wasn't familiar with any of the systems or the state of the mooring rope. The bad weather (it never looks as bad on video!) took me by surprise and you can see that in my face. In the end this was nothing to what I'd face in the future. See Episode 4

Our new Southerly 480 sailboat is ready for the water! Distant Shores III is transported from the shipyard to Saxon Wharf to splash creating havoc with the traffic in downtown Southampton. Then it snows! The mast is stepped on the boat and Paul carries out a traditional Coin Ceremony for good luck on upcoming voyages. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Principal photography by Paul Shard. Although we were able to capture a lot of this on film, like seeing the curvature of the earth from the summit and the shadow cast off the mountain, this video does not do this magical place any justice. Everyone needs to experience the fresh scents of cedar and the crispness of a cloud as it passes through you on your way to the summit. Just make sure you're in good climbing shape and have done a few climbs at similar elevation before attempting this one. See you all soon for the last stop of our summer adventure before heading back to Meru & Boat Life :) Become a member of our AC Crew: https://www.patreon.com/abandoncomfort Follow us on Instagram: http://bit.ly/2pMPpxf Like us on Facebook: http://bit.ly/2pLGd9M **Want to support our show without costing you anything?** USE THIS LINK EVERY TIME YOU SHOP ON AMAZON - http://amzn.to/2wl9mfz --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Bookmark It!) Many of you may recall that earlier this year I was searching for an apprentice to assist me with the research and presenting of videos. I found somebody with the amazing name of Eduardo Perrone da Zara, and asked him to research Benetti's amazing new Oasis 40. By amazing coincidence, shortly thereafter Benetti asked me to produce a walk through video of the yacht...so we filmed a preview vlog on board!

Our penultimate video of our flotilla cruising through the abaco island chain in the bahamas in our Bali 48 catamaran. We sail through the narrow and shallow Don't Rock Passage to Great Guana Cay and one of the more famous bars in the Abacos, Nippers. Then we dance the night away at Grabbers.
