**Update** The boat has been moved by the new owner. ** When I filmed and edited this video, all I knew about the boat was what was on the papers on the stern that you can see in the beginning of the video. Those papers clearly state "For Sale $1.00" and also, "Owner: Koehler Kraft." It's become clear that those papers were misleading and that there are a lot of legal hurdles to get through to take possession of this vessel. I advise anyone who wants to take this project on to get a good lawyer to assist them. Please see the information that KKC wanted me to add below. **7/12/21 KKC Update** "The boat is still available to the first person to come and tow it away. Here is what you need to know about acquiring Gypsy for a restoration project: 1. Unfortunately we do not have any space in or out of the water to store this boat. It must leave our facility immediately. The diesel engine is not reliably operational at this time. The boat must be towed away. 2. Any party requesting a complete restoration by our yard, be advised, we have restoration projects under contract that are utilizing all of our resources for at least the next 6 months. A restoration to top condition would cost at least $175k. If you are prepared to contract the work with the yard and post a retainer the yard will facilitate storage options at your expense. 3. The last owner of the boat was not a US Citizen and left the USA. We have not been able to contact him. This makes acquiring a new title difficult. It is a long and costly process that we are not willing to undertake at this time. Whoever acquires the boat will have to to arrange the clear title. 4. Dry storage would be the best option for a do it yourself restorer. There are several inland storage facilities that exist where the boat could be transported. Once moved, the restoration work could be done there be yourself or a contractor of your choice. I would guesstimate the cost to decommission and move the boat inland would cost $4-5k. Inland storage typically costs $1000-2000 / month depending on location. 5. We have not inspected this vessel and make no guarantees as to its condition. It does appear that many hours and money have been spent restoring this boat. There is considerable work to be done. 6. Owning a 50’ sailboat is not an inexpensive endeavor. Slip rent insurance and basic upkeep would be in excess of $2000/month for a boat in good condition. You would need to budget for this and have a minimum budget of $50k in addition to monthly expenses if you were to take the boat inland for DIY restoration. If you are not a lover of vintage vessels do not pursue ownership of this vessel. " **7/8/21 KKC Update** "1. This boat was abandoned at KKC facilities. The owner has defaulted on his contract with KKC and is believed to have departed the USA indefinitely. He is not a US citizen. KKC has exhausted all resources to locate him. There is not a title for the boat, the party who takes possession will be solely responsible in acquiring a title. 2. KKC is not selling this vessel. Any party who assumes responsibility for the vessel will remove it immediately from KKC property. KKC will release any lien against the vessel upon its departure. 3. KKC is not in a position to perform work on this vessel. 4. The vessel is available on a first come first serve basis. The party will remove the vessel promptly at their own expense. 5. Any temporary accommodation of the vessel could be considered by KKC president with the following conditions: -A minimum cash retainer of fifteen thousand dollars will be paid to KKC to be used to dispose of the vessel in the event the owner defaults with any contract or agreement with KKC and or any damages to KKC facilities, property or any third party property. -The owner will pay KKC short term accommodation fees of $2/foot per day. An agreed upon length of stay will increase at a rate of $1/foot/day after the end of term. -Any work performed to the vessel must be pre-approved in writing by the president of KKC -Any person working on the vessel must be insured and name KKC as additionally insured." Progress is being made on Arabella every day, but that last time we checked in on what we have done up to now was about two and a half years ago. We felt that a recap of the last couple of years, to see all the work that has been done, would be a really fun trip down memory lane while we get ready for the planking party we have scheduled in a couple of weeks. So much has happened in the last couple of years that we actually had to divide it into two parts! We went from a bare keel timber to a framed boat in less than a year! All while recording and providing videos of the progress (not a small feat in and of itself!). We are so proud to see her standing where she is now and ready to be planked. Seeing everything that has gone into that process is really a fantastic feeling. From laying the keel to building up the bow and stern timbers, to pouring the lead keel and getting the molds stood up and frames bent in, there is a lot to go over. So this trimaran drifted in off the ocean inverted and dismasted, and washed up on a reef at Albuquerque Cay about 25 miles SSW of San Andres, Colombia... it was towed in to the main harbour where today, April 27, 2020 it was brought over to the shipping port dock so a heavy crane could be used to bring the vessel back upright.. if you have any information about this vessel I would be interested to hear, and will post a follow up video with any new information. We are nearing the end of the knees! It's amazing the difference that can be seen as these all start to go in. Not only to the rigidity of the structure but also at how the space seems so much different inside. Knees keep the hull from wracking while sailing. They tie many parts of the structure together so that they work together. This can mean they can sometimes be a bit challenging to fit and secure in place. After Steve finishes the knees, he gets a very well deserved holiday break with Robin while Alix fits them in Arabella. As we said in the video we'd love your help growing the channel this year. In episode 6 there is a ”meeting the crew” where we talk about our prior sailing experience and show some footage from Johan’s sail expedition to the Antarctica and South Georgia Island. After a week in Dieppe in Normandy, France we continue to sail south west to Cherbourg. During our 24 hour stay in Cherbourg we visit the Maritime Museum, La cité de la mer, and discover how a nuclear submarine looks from the inside. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved in to our sailboat RAN, a one-off aluminium built Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started sailing south along the coast of Europe. Klassy Kady is no longer for sale by JMYS. The Kadey Krogen 48 North Sea design is an ideal long-range trawler for an active cruising couple. Klassy Kady is hull number 25 in the series and a 2004 model year boat with the popular widebody saloon arrangement. She is ocean ready rugged and elegantly sophisticated, a pleasing blend of form and function. She has been lovingly looked after, regularly upgraded and presents as a much younger looking yacht than her model year designation. The teak wood joinery, carpet over wood soles, Corian counters, Ekornes Stressless recliners, comfortable upholstery and inclusion of large windows create a very spacious, comfortable and homey environment for spending extended time aboard. The interior accommodations on Klassy Kady are arranged into a three cabin, two head layout. The port guest cabin has two bunk beds for visitors. The starboard guest cabin is larger and has a full-size berth sleeps two. The guest cabins share the independent head and shower in the hallway forward to starboard. The master is forward with an island berth on center. There are bed stands, built in seats, drawers, lockers and incredible ventilation and light via overhead hatches and outboard opening port lights. The head and shower are connected making this a large and private stateroom. There are many impressive features aboard and numerous improvements have characterized her ownership. For example; the navigation and communications helm electronics in the pilothouse and on the flybridge were both modernized in 2018 and warrantied until May 2019. This video ends with Carolyn's excitement to sit on the frame she built for one of the saloon setees and we'll get a glimpse of Steve laying down on his future berth thanks to all the work shown in this week's episode. A water tank will go inside the space that Carolyn is fitting with one of Victoria's 100-year-old mahogany panel frames, and so it requires a little bit of beefing up. She uses some white oak pieces and locust supports that will be hidden inside the setee/berth to accomplish the goal of ensuring the water tank is properly supported. She also shares how she goes about giving a 1" rise over a 6' run to this sleeping area, which will hopefully result in the slight incline that will make all the difference for comfort. Meanwhile, Steve continues working on the substantial front panel for the double berth that will go into the forepeak, and after some final adjustments, brings the whole business into the boat and, lo and behold, it fits. Bunk boards of mahogany will serve to hold cushions and humans where they belong. We’ve been back in the water a few days but have only gone for a race on Adrianna1, so it’s time to get some water flowing under the hull and hoist the sails again. We left from Tyrell bay in Carriacou to Anse la Roche, an anchorage on the northern side of the island. We get to use our new (to us) traveller that we recently installed for the first time and are so happy with the results! After a great sail, we head to the beautiful anchorage. The next day we meet some friends who are also there and Adam is persuaded to take his kite board for a spin being towed behind the dinghy. For the rest of the afternoon we have some fun wake boarding and wiping out. After hearing of our success being towed behind a dinghy, a new friend on a power cat wants to up the game and takes Adam out to be towed behind the big boat... and there is a big amount of wake! A few days later, to loosen up the sore limbs, we head for a walk up to the peak of a nearby mountain. The wand of spiders comes out of retirement and we meet a few tortoise along the way. The peak was beautiful and we got the drone flying too!
