Our trip to San Francisco included a stop to look at a 1994 Nautor Swan 46. The Swan 46 MKII (1989-1997) and 48 (1995-2002) were both German Frers designs, and featured dual aft cockpits separated by a traveler. Two separate companionways made them a unique product on the market, and they are both solid bluewater boats with a reputation for being bulletproof in foul weather and big seas. This one was in need of some love, but was also the least expensive Swan 46 on the market (in the US) at present. With a little TLC, she could be a find.

Previously we drove to Rhode Island to build up some connections. While we were there, we were urged to go check out a boat that was for sale near there. We're lucky we did! What a treasure! Victoria is one of the biggest assets we have come across so far! We hope you enjoy the journey she went through to get to us. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you would like to help support the project, please consider becoming a patron at http://www.patreon.com/acorntoarabella Thank you! We navigate through current cut which has to be timed correctly or it will end in disaster. Proceeds from this video will go to the Coral Reef Alliance, but you can also support me directly (and specifically the production of these videos) by becoming a Patron: https://www.patreon.com/theadventuresoftarka Tarka is a 1973 Albin Vega 27 (8.2m) that I bought sight-unseen and without sailing experience on the island of St. Martin in April of 2017. I was thrust head-first into ocean sailing as I got Tarka safely south from what would become the most devastating hurricane seasons on record. We are now working our way west towards the Pacific. Oh what a tangled web we weave! Anyone will tell you about the compromises in nearly all liveaboard choices, and to be sure at least a vast majority of cubic inches are considered and cogitated upon, this week's episode takes a hard 90-degree turn into an area of the boat we thought we'd be able to leave for another few weeks. That sends us on a flashback to a couple of months ago, when Steve and Carolyn went to town on some locust for an important piece of the galley that we've kept off to the side for some time. We do plenty of work that we don't show in these videos in between the half-week of sanding this and that or while we wait for multiple coats of sealer, varnish, primer, or paint. Alix gives us an update at the top of the episode—he'll be setting up his own workshop, looking after his dad at home, and hopes to take on Arabella projects that he can work on there. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building a 38' wooden boat in Steve's backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. Today is your last chance to get your official launch shirt ordered up so it arrives in time for launch, but you can order it any time in the next two weeks as well. https://www.bonfire.com/official-launch-shirt/ So much is going on in the boat shed as Arabella approaches launch day. Here's a synopsis: We fire up the Victron AC inverter and get some details about how that fits into our marine DC electrical system. The forward portlights on the cabin house need new external bronze plates because the ones they came with fit poorly. The cockpit goes outside to get all of its accoutrements (deck prisms, deadlights) installed. Saloon table charging stations are detailed, and the very simple AC system is discussed. It's basically the water heater (which heats off of the engine), and a single GFCI plug for when Arabella is on shore power. Where did we put the only plywood in Arabella? Have a peek at our Carolina Wren in the garage. She had four babies. They're all great and have fledged now. LONGBOARDING PARTY! Wood for sale. Volunteers really did a wonderful job getting us hours and hours into fairing the hull for this DIY wooden boat. And Satchel tells us about the unexpected ride he had while on Long Island Sound: the US Coast Guard responded to his and his friend's call for aid. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a wooden boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Head to https://squarespace.com/learningthelines to save 10% off your first purchase of a website or domain using code "learningthelines.” This boat is awesome, although in our personal opinions it begs the question... "why?" It has a lot of great features, but we see it as a monohull trying too hard to be a catamaran, and for the cost of this boat, you can get a really nice cat. What do YOU think? In this episode, we're listing our top selection of some of the best multihull sailing yachts you can buy at around $500,000, together with their price and features. We'll share our top pick near the end! It’s a well-known fact that one of the most significant benefits of a multihull is its stability. This kind of vessel is highly dependable, not only at sea, where the tiresome business of heeling actually does not, or should not, occur to any significant degree but even while at anchor. It greatly expands a sailor’s anchorage options to include those impacted by surface waves, where a slight shift in wind direction can make a previously smooth, calm anchorage intolerable for a monohull. Its comparatively shoal draught expands the options even further. Multihull sailing yachts have numerous advantages including increased speed, a more stable platform, increased protection from the elements, and more living spaces. ⛵️ Leave a LIKE, write a COMMENT, and SHARE this video if you enjoyed it! ⛵️ SUBSCRIBE and click the notification BELL to be updated with new episodes! We FOUND HIM! He helped save our sinking boat | 85 | Beau and Brandy Sailing After weeks of searching we FOUND him! The fisherman that help save our boat from sinking. We are so thankful and we wanted to be able to give him a big thank you. In the past months we seem to have everything building up. Things keep happening that its hard to keep our spirits up. BUT we work had to look at the positive and not the negative, because this is the lifestyle that we really do love. So we take a break and go diving with our friends to lighten the mood and help with our positive outlooks. After help from our friends we get the dinghy motor back to working order and we set out to look for the fisherman that answered our Mayday when we found the crack in our hull on the way to Grenada. And we finally find him. Superyachts are the ultimate epitome of boating luxury. In this video, we’ll look at some of the smallest superyachts available on the market, which are also sometimes called “pocket superyachts”. This sector of the boating market has grown popular over recent years for both buyers and charter companies, so we’ll talk about their current prices and important features. Stay tuned to see which superyacht earned our top spot! A superyacht is generally considered a recreational boat that’s longer than 24 meters. The 24 to 32-meter segment is the smallest of this category, and they are coveted simply because they are less expensive, easy to move around, and require less maintenance, without sacrificing comfort. These beautiful vessels can serve as a luxurious home away from home, for those lucky enough to afford them. They offer a lot of exciting amenities and creature comforts, as well as the opportunity to enjoy long cruises and access remote bays along the coast. ⛵️ Leave a LIKE, write a COMMENT, and SHARE this video if you enjoyed it! ⛵️ SUBSCRIBE and click the notification BELL to be updated with new episodes!
