Flying down wind, we need to avoid a fishing trawler and we LOSE steering... https://www.sailingnandji.com/ In this episode of Sailing Nandji, our quick dash to Langkawi is complete and we have some stronger winds forecast to blow us back to Thailand. We head out early and enjoy some great fun sailing. There are lots of fishing trawlers to watch out for and trying to do some quick avoidance, we lose our steering at sea... She will be right! Who needs steering anyway, Right??? With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off from Australia sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra to live the island life and chase the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we have returned to Thailand to wait for the weather and begin our journey to the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south to Chagos and across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! The adventure is just beginning as we plan to sail our Nandji girl around the world!! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm offshore. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades around the World! Launched on July 29th, 1920, by World War II the aging destroyer was nearing the end of her career. Then on March 1st, 1942 she blundered into the mighty Kido Butai. Hopelessly outmatched by Japanese warships, the Edsall put up an unlikely fight that earned her a place in history books. Sportfish: 94 Sea Force IX 2013 [BONNY READ] Location: LOS SUENOS, COSTA RICA Asking Price: $11,400,000 Yacht Broker: Jerry Gilpin // Jerry@DenisonYachting.com // (772) 359-5745 Price, Specs + Photos: https://hubs.ly/Q018JBGN0 "Bonny Read" is the largest of the performance sport line available by custom builder Sea Force IX. From bow to stern her long slopping sheer carries nearly to the cockpit where it drops to the precise height for optimum fishing advantage. Each Sea Force IX is designed and built to each client's specs and "Bonny Read" is no exception. The interior is designed with a European layout with the galley separate from the dining and salon areas. All of the interior paneling throughout the vessel is crafted from quarter-sawn teak derived from a single tree and the grain pattern is meticulously matched throughout. All of the yacht's hard surface counters are constructed of lightweight marble and granite by factory-skilled artisans. A quick walkthrough begins aft of the salon on the mezzanine with a shaded forward-facing new Sunbrella upholstered bench seating area with a teak table and storable teak chairs. To starboard is a corner seat to monitor the action in the cockpit and to starboard, a custom stainless steel spiral staircase leads to the enclosed bridge aft deck. The salon is entered through automated electric double French doors, to port an oversize newly upholstered U-shaped sofa that faces a book-matched teak cabinet housing the new OLED Flatscreen TV. To starboard is an internal artisan sculpted curved staircase that leads to the enclosed bridge and the day head access. The dining area is formed around a custom-crafted teak table and chair set that seats eight comfortably and is surrounded by teak cabinetry housing the yachts stem and flatware, silverware, and linens. A new Miele wine cooler and clear ice maker are also hidden behind the cabinetry areas as well. The newly appointed galley and crew quarter areas are accessed via the starboard companionway that continues forward to the master and three guest staterooms. The most notable feature of "Bonny Read" is the hull construction and her pedigree of being a performance-built sport yacht. No description is just to explain the seamless and effortless ability "Bonny Read" makes when her performance is put to the test. Her hull geometry generates lift on nearly 90 percent of the running surface at low angles of attack and an economical cruise speed of 26 knots gives a range of 800 miles. Her entire mechanical space has been completely redesigned and recently refit to make her arguably the most practical and functional yacht built to date. After 8 years of traveling and fishing around the world, it was decided to bring "Bonny Read" to modern-day technology and standards. Every aspect was considered during her refit and overseen by Rubicon Maritime consulting. A 6-month yard period resulted in a complete update of the Northern Lights gen sets, Atlas system, and frequency converters, a completely new HVAC system, a complete electrical rewire and upgrade to the electrical distribution network, and two Sea Keeper 18's. Other upgrades such as a newly designed exhaust system, newly designed fuel tanks, and fuel manifold system were also integrated. On the interior, every soft good was replaced including all of the carpeted soles throughout. The ship's communication and satellite systems were upgraded to the most advanced and practical systems available. A full Simrad electronics package was installed and every option was integrated into that package to include two radars, AIS, Chirp technology sounder, and autopilot. A fully redesigned helm on the Skybridge was manufactured and a Palm Beach teak helm pod was built to better utilize her space and functionality to the sky bridge. A custom Pipe Welders Hardtop was built and installed and all new custom polished stainless steel pipework was replaced. The most distinguishable change to "Bonny Read" was her new dark gray hull paint job and white topside paint. All of her teak decks and steps were also replaced as well as revarnishing of her teak cap rails. In this episode we make a discovery which shows the real extent of the damage to our bulkheads. We receive some extremely helpful assistance from the manufacturer, on how to repair our Lagoon 450 catamaran. She has had catastrophic failures to both sides of her primary bulkhead, leading to the fracture of subsequent bulkheads, and cracking of the tabbing on almost all remaining bulkheads. This series will show never before seen footage of how we straightened and strengthened a 45ft production catamaran, in order to be able to complete a circumnavigation. Located in Linton bay, in Panama, we meet our fair share of challenges trying to rebuild this boat from the bulkheads up... After we launch the spinnaker and head downwind, shallow cruising in the Bahamas is absolute tranquility! We continue our inspirational journey back to the US and cruise peacefully through the shallow banks of the Bahamas. After rescuing a GoPro lost at sea, we snorkel the Sapona Wreck in Binimi, and then sit down to take a few minutes to answer many of your questions. ***WANT TO SUPPORT THE Z-CREW?*** —BUY A TICKET TO THE SHOW! The Oyster 745 is a thrilling yacht to sail - her immense scale makes it an unforgettable experience. Her powerful, large volume hull form with twin rudders offers perfect stability and effortless finger-tip control on the helm. Visibility is excellent from both protected helm stations, making tricky manoeuvres simple and the smart sail plan makes her easy to handle, delivering consistently fast passage-making speeds. It all adds up to a beautifully balanced offshore sailboat. The large cockpit offers safety and comfort for family and friends; concealed lines, clutter-free decks with flush hatches and plenty of stowage for sails and kit make moving around safer under sail. Exceptionally large tankage and generous stowage below means you can make extended voyages without re-stocking. We plan to sail Julia on ocean passages and have made structural upgrades for deep water conditions. New chainplates to support the rig, laminated floor timbers to secure the keel, and new keelbolts to fasten the ballast. This video shows some structural upgrades for a traditional wooden boat. Julia is an Ingrid Ketch, designed by William Atkin and built in 1960. She is a traditional wooden boat, built of doug fir planking on oak frames. The length on deck is 37.5 ft and the waterline is 30 ft.

Huge thanks to NordVPN for sponsoring this video! Get 4 extra months on a 2yr plan here: https://nordvpn.com/svdelos It’s risk free with Nord’s 30 day money-back guarantee! Today’s video is part 1 of 2 as we document the process of preparing Delos and us for our Pacific Crossing. Stoke levels were ridiculous on board as the reality of the undertaking ahead of us began to sank in. We arrive to La Paz and immediately dive in to our never ending list of boat jobs like provisioning all the dry goods, trying to get to the bottom of our faulty transmission (this saga will continue into next week’s episode 😂), taking down our beloved dome, and going through and checking everything in our ditch kit to make sure we have everything we need in case of an emergency. And speaking of our ditch kit, we’ve always had a downloadable PDF on our website of everything we keep in our ditch kit, but we’ve gone one step further and we made an Amazon Storefront where you can see everything listed in one page and order straight from there. We’ve also got other categories of things like camera gear that we use, essential tools, our favorite cruising gear, galley gadgets, stuff for kiddos and more. You can check it out at amazon.com/shop/sailingsvdelos It’s been so great to relive the excitement that we felt before the crossing. The only longer passage we’ve done since having Sierra was from Mexico to Panama, so we had so many emotions running through us as we prepared to spend 3 weeks at sea. We hope you enjoy sharing in the excitement with us as we get closer and closer to departure day! Self Defense on Sailboats: defense Against PIRATES, INTRUDERS & THIEVES... Please understand that this video is presenting some ideas about defending yourselves against having Un-Armed thieves and intruders board your boats...BEFORE they board your boat. These are new self defense weapons for sailors to consider having onboard for self defense against piracy. What weapons we want on our boat to use to defend ourselves is considered in this episode. We are not offering this video as advice on what weapons to have or not have on your boat...that is a personal call. This video is simply to introduce some more ideas of what’s available here in South Africa and open up a discussion between cruisers or those contemplating cruising. Everyone must decide for their own boat. Please do not feel we are telling you these are good weapons to use in every case, and may even be dangerous to display. ...they are simply ideas For devices to use in self defense on a sailboat, we do not necessarily use them to defend ourselves. We are well aware that pulling a fake gun or even a real firearm, on someone with a real gun will get YOU killed...as the video explains. This is a discussion about possibilities for warding off theft from mildly threatening intruders...not guys intent on robbing, raping, and killing you, like so many people want to discuss here. To make it clear to people NOT on boats...this is what to ward the guy off who comes on to your lawn...who is MAYBE gonna steal your lawnmower. Are you going to blow him away, or are you gonna maybe shoot a pepperball in his direction? This is what we are talking about in this video...It’s indeed hard to tell intent...and sometimes it’s best to assume the worst, but not hurt someone right away. If they keep coming, it may be best to have a plan B ready to go. We have decided to make our first line of defense, after common sense, locking things up and not displaying them on deck...along with the installation of a super decked out security system onboard Brick House for http://www.GOST.com. Nobody will step onboard without us knowing about it, and alerts being sent to the local officials. Here are 5 cool Ideas to deter an un-armed and not actually dangerous intruder who may decide to board your sailboat. Real Pirates on Sailboats...and real pirate defense..forget it...but opportunistic fisherman who want your cell phone...why let them have it when you can use a deterrent to scare these pirates away? These are perhaps some crazy ideas and methods to defend against pirates and intruders in S. Africa where this was filmed in June, 2019, without having guns on a boat, but they are here to consider as you contemplate weapons on your sailboat. Sailing around the world, a cruiser needs a definite method to send a clear message to an intruder that he is about to step onto the wrong boat. But lethal weapons are often overkill and can turn the boat owner, into a criminal, landing him in a filthy foreign prison! We believe most of these weapons on sailboats are for use at a distance, and once here pirates have boarded the boat,it’s probably time for a plan B to defend yourself, and possibly locking yourself in the cabin to not be murdered.
