Her current owner tore the entire vessel down to her Scantlings in a new build program that started in 2005. She was launched in January 2009 as a Splendor Yacht and was issued a 2008 New Build Certificate from the Marshall Islands. Only 40% of her hull framing remains from when she was originally built as a Broward Yacht. Her new design was created by Donald Blount, and built under the supervision of Murray & Associates Naval Architects. Built to an ABS specification, she was re-delivered to her US owner in 2009, with 100% of her machinery, electrical, piping, plumbing, a/v, interior and exterior finishing replaced. Her interior by Pavlik Yacht Design was handcrafted by Genesis Yachtline in Viareggio, Italy. Her C-32 Acert engines were new in 2009 and were overhauled in January 2019 by Caterpillar. All of the maintenance on her engines have been performed by CAT since her Launch and have fully assignable "CAT Platinum Plus" warranties with no deductible, valid through January 2024. She was also fitted with Naiad Zero Speed Stabilizers. In February 2019, her main A/C chillers were replaced with new Dometic 7.5 Ton Titanium Coil Chillers. She accommodates 12 guests in six cabins including a main-deck master suite, three King Bed Suites, a Suite that has Twin Berths and a Pull Down, along with an additional Suite with a Twin Bed and a Pull Down Bed as well. All have en-suite full Heads finished with Mosaic Tile and Marble Sink Tops. The Yacht has been under the direct care and supervision of Mark D’Angelo, a Licensed Naval Architect for the past 6 years. The Yacht has been maintained on a Maintenance Plan that has followed best practices as well as all recommended maintenance being performed by Caterpillar on the main engines. There is no deferred maintenance on this Yacht. It is in Bristol condition and all records of the Build and Maintenance performed since 2009 when it was launched can be delivered to a new owner. After the hurricane, Dan flew to New York to keep me company for a few weeks while I helped my mom in the hospital. When we came back to Haiti, we spent time with family and tackled a few tasks on our to do list while still in Port Au Prince. The Route du Rhum is the biggest solo offshore racing event in the world. You only have to walk the dockside at the start venue in St Malo where 138 boats were alongside the quay and it’s clear that this race across the Atlantic is a serious crowd puller. In just under two weeks the race village will see 2 million visitors strolling through a staggering offshore grand prix pit lane. This hasn't gotten any less SCARY for us 🙈 Even though it's our 9th time pulling Delos out of the water, it's still such a nerve racking experience...there are just so many things that can go really really wrong. You’re basically asked to steer your boat into a narrow, concrete like bunker with a gigantic machine looming over head. There’s usually some old tires and rusty bits of metal waiting to impale your vessel should anything go wrong. So you approach slowly and if you have timed the tides correctly you glide over the slings, and stop just before ramming your bow into the wall, or your forestay into the machine’s cross brace (both of which are considered bad form 😂 ) As the machine tightens the slings and starts to take the weight, it’s a surreal experience to feel yourself and your boat lifted out of the water supported by only a few straps and pins. Hauling Delos out of the water marks the end of our 11th season of sailing. It feels like SO LONG ago that we cast the lines in Shelter Bay and began the 3,000+ mile journey from the Panama Canal up to the northern end of the Sea of Cortez. Our time being back in the Pacific ocean has pretty much mirrored what we've found to be true about cruising in general- alternating between the highest highs and the lowest lows, sometimes even simultaneously. While we'd had some pretty big challenges during this time (Hurricanes, Salmonella poisoning, and basically the entire coast of Costa Rica spring to mind) overall it's been a pretty special and unforgettable season for us, and just seeing how much Sierra has grown and developed during this time is pretty mind blowing! But it feels great to close another chapter and make way for an exciting new one as we prepare to cross the Pacific Ocean again! Meine erste Atlantiküberquerung. Ich bin allein auf der 12 Meter langen REYKJA, einer 35-jährigen Stahlyacht. Es geht von La Palma, Kanaren, direkt nach Domenica, Karibik. Die Strecke ist 2790 Seemeilen lang, mehr als 5000 Kilometer. Dafür brauche ich 24 Tage. Ich überquere den Atlantik im Februar. Segeln im Passat ist nicht wahnsinnig schwierig, aber hat Tücken. Im Februar weht der Wind stärker als in den Monaten davor. Wenn die Wellen hoch gehen, beginnt das Schiff kräftig zu rollen. Schon Schlafen wird zu einem Abenteuer: Wo kralle ich mich fest ohne umhergeschleudert zu werden? Reisst dann noch kurz vor dem Ziel die Genua, das grösste Segel, ist man als Alleinsegler plötzlich ganz schön einsam. Mein Fazit aus knapp vier Wochen allein segeln? Echt stark!
