In Episode 66 of the Sailing Goat Series, we spend another day soaking in Athens, and we have to admit—it’s really growing on us. From ancient monuments to modern rooftops, this city has a unique vibe that’s hard not to love. We kick off the day by visiting the Greek Parliament just in time to witness the changing of the guard, a ceremony filled with tradition and precision. After that, it’s back to boat business—replacing the solar panels we lost in Trizonia. Thankfully, we finally found suitable replacements in the city, and with the help of our awesome neighbor from the sailboat next door, we were able to retrieve and install them. This time, we didn’t mess around—we used a ridiculous number of bolts to make sure these panels aren’t going anywhere, no matter how hard the Aegean blows! With the job done, we treated ourselves to some museum visits, soaked in the local culture, and topped it all off with a delicious rooftop sushi dinner overlooking Athens. ⚡ Solar Panels Reinstalled (for Good This Time): After losing our panels to a brutal gust in Trizonia, we finally replace them—and over-engineer the install to ensure they’ll never fly away again. 🇬🇷 Changing of the Guard: We catch the ceremonial event in front of the Greek Parliament, a proud and precise display of national tradition. 🖼️ Museums & Culture: Athens continues to impress with its mix of ancient history and modern energy. Sailing Tunisia to Malta across the Mediterranean. Will it go to plan? This is a good long video of the crossing from Tunisia to Malta. We had been watching a cold front moving North East across the region and this would make a fantastic downwind or aft of the beam run to Malta. But Mr stupid here forgot that you have to checkout with the Garda Civil from Tunisia 24 hours before you leave. We managed to get checked out but the customs and police always want to check your boat before you leave and this with the extra paper work put us 2 hours behind schedule and we sort of missed the wind only catching it really for the first few hours and then in dribs and drabs during the crossing. Fishing vessels in this area are a law unto themselves and in both crossings there and back we encountered them running without AIS and not answering their radios even using "Vessel in position". Still we made it and it was not too bad a sail doing the 170 miles in 28 hours. This video is the story of this journey. Enjoy the video. The Graveyard of the Pacific has claimed thousands of lives over the years. In 1906, the SS Valencia, sailing with the Pacific Coast Steamship Company, ran aground off the coast of Vancouver Island. She couldn’t have found a worse area to wreck. The violent waves and rocky cliffs that line the coastline made it nearly impossible for her passengers and crew to make it to the shore only a few meters away. Full electric galley, watermaker, 2 years new electronics including auto pilot, radar and 16 inch chartplotter. Custom dinghy lift where you can leave the engine on (comes with 10.5 rib with almost new 20hp motor), new mainsail and jib, 14 foot by 7 foot custom hard top, dive compressor, two electric toilets with 2x 100 litre blackwater tank, put in 3 new fridge/freezer units, new prop shafts, 8 new underwater lights. We took the bottom down to gel-coat and put 6 layers of barrier coat on before new bottom paint (that was 3 years ago) and we replaced every through hull. We installed two new prop shafts and aquadrives. It has 4 staterooms, one oversized queen bed, one queen bed and to double beds with 4 heads but we are using 2 heads as just storage. You can live remote on this boat for months and months without needing to resupply (3 fridge/freezers, crazy amount of solar and giant lithium batteries etc). It still needs some cosmetic work inside and a couple of things here and there, but could cross oceans right now as is. We love this boat but we are aware we aren't going to get back anywhere near the money we put into her. To this updated 2025 full in-depth tour of my beautiful 1984 Beneteau Idylle 11.5m or 38' long sloop rigged monohull sailboat. My humble home upon the sea. Six and a half years ago, I went up and down the East coast of the USA looking for a sailboat to buy. With a considerable amount of help and advice from my sailing mentor Don. I purchased this sailboat in Cape Cod Massachusetts for $23,000.00. At that time the boat was on the hard with it's mast down in an old boatyard miles and miles from the ocean. It was hard to imagine that it would be the boat for me. But after about a month of working with the seller and his broker. We splashed the boat, stepped the mast and sea trialed her. After that, I was confident this sailboat was what I was looking for. But it would take several years and a couple major refits of improvements and upgrades to make the boat what it is now. A boat that's value is far greater than when I started. As is it's practical usability which you can see though my online channels. From this boat I love to explore and go on adventures wherever my anchor rests. The boats name perfectly explains what it represents: -Adventure: (An unusual and exciting or daring experience. Or to engage in daring or risky activity.) -Borne: (Carried or transported by the thing specified.) -Adventureborne = "What brings me to the adventure." This is a humble sailboat. But that's an upside. Because unlike most catamarans and other larger vessels. This sailboat is highly affordable and has an extremely low cost to maintain. Allowing me to be able to sail and cruise full time. Without worry of breaking the bank. On top of that, my main expense out here in the Bahamas would be food. But more than a decade of spearfishing around the world has given me the capability to consistently harvest from the ocean around my sailboat through freedive spearfishing. Further extending my time at sea and away from the hustle and bustle of civilizations. While feasting and sharing it's bounties with my fellow sailors. This boat has been a dream to sail & live on.
