This is part 5 of a step-by-step build of a B&B Yacht Designs Spindrift 10 nesting dinghy, following the guidance from the build instructions. This video focuses on masking the premiered and prepared surface, applying coats of gelcoat and sanding the gelcoat to a smooth surface, ready for buffing. I really enjoyed this part, it all-of-a-sudden looks like a "real" boat. And, all the hard work in preparing it to this point pays off big time! I purchased the pre-cut "kit" to save some time, but the same results can be accomplished by purchasing the build instructions and cutting your own marine-grade plywood. This video is for those who are looking to build their own dinghy, and who wish to learn more about the process. This is the second project Brent and I worked on together, the previous being a 7' pram for Brent. I hope you enjoy, and I hope you take away some successes we had, as well as learning from some of the failures we encountered.

It all came down to the final moments. The 470 European Championship 2026 in Vilamoura delivered a full week of high-performance racing, where 53 teams, 106 sailors and 31 coaches pushed consistency and execution to the limit. Unstable conditions, constant leaderboard shifts and increasing pressure set the stage for a Medal Race where everything was still open. In the end, Wrigley / Harris (GBR) held their nerve to secure the European title, ahead of Ferrari / Dubbini (ITA) and Xammar / Cardona (ESP). This event also marked a key milestone for the class, with the new Medal Race format raising intensity and redefining the final stage of Olympic sailing competition on the road to LA 2028. We really struggle with applying fibreglass to the underside of things, especially when the shapes are awkward and space is tight. So today was difficult but is done - glassing in the the new deck beam to strengthen the bulkhead where for the inner forestay and windlass loads. First of all I wet my whiskers with warm water. I then wet my shaving brush and load from the soap tub. I rotate the brush clockwise then anti clockwise, in order to get equal wear on my brush. I rub some of the soap into my bristles to soften them. I then take the brush to my face and apply lather in a figure of eight motion. I frequently dip the brush tips into water and take the brush back to my face until my lather is wet enough. I then splay the brush to build up my lather. I then take the razor and perform a three pass shave. with the grain, across the grain and finally, against the grain. After the shave I rinse my face with cold water and towel dry. The Netherlands has long been regarded as one of the most prestigious yacht building nations in the world, with names like Feadship, Oceanco, Heesen and Damen setting the standard for quality, innovation and pedigree. In this video, I take a look at a much newer name on the Dutch scene: Leapher Yachts. Based in Tolkamer on the banks of the Rhine, this boutique shipyard has transformed a historic former cruise ship building facility into a focused production hub for serious explorer yachts. What makes that especially remarkable is the scale of its first project. Leapher has just launched Horizon II, a 60.9 metre explorer yacht built for long-range adventure, polar capability and extended autonomy. For a young shipyard, that is an incredibly bold statement of intent. We’ll look at the vision behind the yard, the man leading it, the strategy of focusing on the 50 to 82 metre explorer segment, and why Horizon II is such an important launch. With a steel hull built to Ice Class and Polar Code standards, around 9,000 nautical miles of range at 10 knots, and up to 40 days of autonomy, this is a yacht designed to go far beyond the usual cruising grounds. I also talk about the team behind the project, including Van Oossanen Naval Architects, O7 Designers and Cor D. Rover Design, and why Leapher’s positioning in the market is so interesting at a time when entering Dutch yacht building is no small challenge. In the harbor of Karlovasi at Samos, when we turned our back to the see, we looked at a high hill with a beautiful church. However, it was quite difficult to get there with our bike and scooter. Luckily—long live the drone—it can take a look almost anywhere 😉 It turned out to be the Church of the Holy Trinity, beautifully positioned on an elevated location above the port. Its prominent hilltop setting offers excellent panoramic views.
