One of the most iconic spots on Skiathos is Lalaria Beach, on the north coast. This beach is only accessible by boat and is characterized by white pebbles, high cliffs, and a natural rock arch. In calm northern conditions, it is a magical place to anchor or to sail by slowly. The water here is an intense blue and crystal clear—an absolute highlight when seen from the boat.

One of the sails we like to use on Horizon, is the Code Zero. It goes all the way from the front to the end and is very suitably for light winds, because it had 80m2 to cover. The small islet of Peristera, which is part of Alonissos (the Sporades island group), has a shipwreck that is partly underwater and partly visible above the surface. We went there, jumped into the crystal-clear water with our snorkeling gear, and saw the ship underwater using our GoPro. Lots of fish and rusted parts. We found it a fascinating sight! And with the drone, we had an even better view of the shipwreck.

The warm waters and upwelling bring in huge amounts of baitfish that in turn are hunted by striped marlin, California sea lions, dolphins, whales, and sometimes even sharks. All five of us are now one full week into our Atlantic crossing. We made some pretty serious mistakes in the video. Could have been worse, a LOT worse. No need to point out all our faults in the comments, how bad things could have gone haunt me already. Sad to have lost a cushion but so grateful that's all that was lost. Could have been a finger, hand, foot..head. Seven days at sea. One whole week. And we still have an estimated 12 days to go before we reach the other side, where Ayanna’s newly purchased boat is waiting for her. We’re uploading these videos daily and almost in real time from the middle of the ocean — which means as this episode airs, we are still out there somewhere on the deep blue. 🌊 You can find our live tracker linked below to see where we are right now. Day 7 brought cold mornings, very little sleep, dog ear repairs, oatmeal that felt like a luxury, and serious wind and swell. We spent the day double-reefed, surfing down waves we didn’t love, and eventually deploying a sea drogue to slow the boat and keep things safer. Nothing like learning lessons the hard way — including saying goodbye to a cockpit cushion. Day 0 Daily Highlight | Youth Sailing World Championships – Vilamoura Day 0 is all about final preparations ahead of the first day of racing. Event hosts Lourenço and Luisa take us around the boat park and Vilamoura Marina, where sailors were out on the water today for their practice races. We also go behind the scenes to see how the event comes together—from the livestream setup and broadcast van to hearing from the team running the championship. We learn how the tracking system works, with tracking available for every class, every day. Even when a class isn’t live streamed, fans, coaches, and sailors can still follow the racing and later analyze performance and data. Racing gets underway tomorrow, with a slightly delayed start due to the wind. The first warning signal is expected around 13:00, so tune into the live stream from about 12:45.
