Ironically for a cold misty day with little or no wind this was the best day of the holiday for travelling. E64 Weekly Vlog of Life in a Nutshell narrowboat travels. We continue to head north and cruise on the River Soar. We make it up to the Erewash Canal and spend the night moored next to the pub. A few ales in the pub and the next morning we cruise the final few miles to the winding hole and our first turnaround point. Heading back south now, we spend a lovely day on the cut, enjoying the beautiful weather and stunning autumn scenery. Once at the Loughborough Basin we meet up with nutters from all over the country at the Swan in the Rushes for a few farewell ales and stores. The next day is handover day to the new owners of Nutshell, Glenn and Lisa Warner. She is now in good hands and we will be heading off to Panama to new adventures. After making friends with Penguin Man (who has been living on an island of over ten thousand penguins for TWENTY YEARS), we paddle boarded with a massive seal colony, explored a beached shipwreck from the 40's, and spent the rest of the day sappin' brews in our hammocks on Delos. I witness our neighbours boat dragging to the rocks in our anchorage in Curacao, and within a few minutes of radio chatting, several other cruisers came to the rescue and the boat was safely re-anchored. She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. This week Capt Stew from Luckyfish runs through a How To checklist to help you choose a catamaran for sale. After an amazing stroke of luck we find ourselves delivering a Catana 42 to St Vincent for Dream Yacht Charters and reflect on the differences between the Wharram Tiki 38 and catamarans like the Catana. The observations will surprise many and the conclusion surprised us too ! Stew was a registered Yacht Broker for many years and founded and ran a Yacht Charter Company. If boat selection was left entirely to the manufacturers and marketers, we would all own 50+ foot monohulls and 40+ feet catamarans. How much sailing we'd actually do on them is another matter. By choosing large expensive yachts, often for the wrong reasons, we spend more of our life focussed on making money to pay for them, which is anathema to our desire to find freedom on the sea. Entre l'Uruguay et l'Argentine s'étend le Rio de la Plata, un énorme estuaire qui a ses règles bien à lui. C'est une mer couleur café au lait, truffée d'épaves gisantes dans quelques mètres d'eau. Les navigations demandent une attention particulière aux sondes et aux vents. Cette deuxième vidéo décrit un pampéro. C'est par hasard, dans les rues de Buenos Aires en Argentine, que nous rencontrons Manuel et Renée. Le couple repère tout de suite nos mini-vélo pliants 'spécial bateaux', un type de bicyclettes plutôt rares dans la capitale Argentine mais que les deux Français connaissent bien, et pour cause, ils arrivent à Buenos Aires il y a neuf ans… en voilier. Suite de la balade au Cap Horn de Loïck, notre Rêve d'Antilles Pour nos derniers miles avant le Cap nous traversons la Baie de Nassau escortés par un groupe de baleines, des manchots, et de nombreux dauphins. Loïck notre Rêve d'Antilles, est en Patagonie. Dans le Canal de Beagle, à Puerto Williams, petit village chilien adossé à une importante base militaire, nous rencontrons Osvadlo, il emmène ses clients pour un "Cap Horn Tour" de trois jours. Le skipper chilien habitué du Cap, nous propose de le suivre dans cette excursion. Un voilier allemand complète l'escadrille. En Patagonie, Loïck, notre Rêve d'Antilles entame sa troisième année de voyage. Après le tour du Cap Horn, nous nous engageons sur les eaux abritées du Canal de Beagle, au sud de l’Argentine et du Chili par 55° Sud. Ce trait de mer, coupe franche dans les montagnes, relie Pacifique et Atlantique. Première escale de ce périple de cinq semaines, la baie de Yendegaia. Magnifique journée sur le Canal de Beagle, Loick, notre Rêve d'Antilles est mouillé au pied du glacier dans le Seno Pia, en Patagonie chilienne, nous profitons du soleil pour débarquer tout près du monstre de glace…. Une petite frayeur nous y attend. Quelles sont les spécificités d’une navigation dans les canaux de Patagonie? Avec l'aide de Micky, capitaine d'un voilier de charter sur le Beagle depuis dix ans, nous revenons sur le wiliwaw, un vent local, violent, qui peut réserver quelques surprises. Im normalen Sommerurlaub ist der Bottnische Meerbusen von Deutschland aus kaum erreichbar. Doch mit einem Kettentörn kann man das traumhafte Revier ganz oben im Norden erkunden. YACHT-Autor Klaus Andrews war zwei Wochen auf den Gewässern zwischen Schweden und Finnland unterwegs und hat tolle Bilder mitgebracht.
