The town of Sinj comes alive to host the historical annual Alkar Tournament. The Sinjska Alka is a medieval tournament that has taken place annually in the Croatian town of Sinj since the 18th century. During the tournaments, knights dressed in traditional costumes ride horses at full gallop along a designated area, aiming for an iron ring hanging on a rope. To participate in the Sinjska Alka you must be from a local family, forming a strong community of Alkar's that span many generations. This tournament is the only remaining example of medieval knightly competitions in Croatia. Entre l'Uruguay et l'Argentine s'étend le Rio de la Plata, un énorme estuaire qui a ses règles bien à lui. C'est une mer couleur café au lait, truffée d'épaves gisantes dans quelques mètres d'eau. Les navigations demandent une attention particulière aux sondes et aux vents. Cette première vidéo s'intéresse aux sondes. Le Rio de la Plata est soumis à une petite marée qui ne dépasse pas deux mètres, mais les hauteurs d'eau dépendent surtout du vent. Dans la pratique, les deux facteurs doivent être calculés si l'on veut éviter l'échouement... fréquent.

Unweit der Kuang Si Waterfalls hat sich ein Niederländer mit seiner Frau einen paradiesischen Platz in einem kleinen laotischen Dorf geschaffen: die Butterfly Farm. Nicht nur das Schmetterlingshaus sondern das gesamte Grundstück wurde mit unglaublich viel Kreativität und Liebe zum Detail geschaffen. Somit genossen wir die Nachmittagsstunden sehr! Am meisten begeisterten uns die handflächengroßen Schmetterlingsarten und der Dead Leaf Schmetterling, welcher von außen wie ein abgestorbenes Blatt aussah. Sobald dieser jedoch seine Flügel öffnete, offenbarten sich seine wundervolle Farben. Das niederländische Paar hatte wirklich an Alles gedacht: wir konnten uns im Schmetterlingshaus auf zwei Stühle setzen, Schmetterlinge um unsere Köpfe kreisen lassen während Knabberfischchen unsere Füße im Wasser bearbeiteten. Herrlich! Auch den Kaffee mit dem Inhaber sollte man sich nach dem Schmetterlingshaus nicht entgehen lassen. Mit besonderem Humor kann er Geschichten aus seiner Reisezeit erzählen und ein Fotobuch zu seiner Bauphase der Butterfly Farm vorzeigen. Gleichzeitig unterstützt man mit seinem Besuch noch ein Bildungsprojekt, denn das niederländische Paar bietet Kindern der Region Naturschutz und Biologie Unterricht an. World Sailing will a launch a bold ambition for sailing’s contribution to global sustainability at its Sustainability Agenda 2030 Forum in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on Tuesday 7 November 2017. Sustainability Agenda 2030 is a series of 59 targets spread into six different areas which are; technical standards, events, training, venues and facilities, members and participation. Priorities and where the sport aims to be in 2030 will be outlined by Mike Golding, World Sailing Sustainability Commission Chairman, and complemented by industry experts. Followers will be encouraged to join the debate and conversation using the #UnitingOurSport on social media. Speakers and content at Sustainability Agenda 2030 Forum include: • Mike Golding, Chairman of World Sailing’s Sustainability Commission and accomplished offshore sailor, will present World Sailing’s Sustainability Agenda 2030 alongside Dan Reading, Sustainability Programme Manager at World Sailing; • Ocean advocate, skipper and World Sailing Sustainability Commission member, Emily Penn, will explore and highlight the issues of ocean plastic pollution; • Volvo Ocean Race winner and Vestas 11th Hour Racing Sustainability Manager, Damian Foxall, will give insight into the races sustainability programme and the perspective from a competing team; • The benefits of electric propulsion will be discussed by Captain Todd Sims from Torqeedo; • Go Sailing, for a Change co-founder, Enrico Benco, is working to identify, develop and promote sustainable solutions for the composite industry in order to foster the adoption of a Circular Economy model. At Sustainability Agenda 2030 Benco will speak about the benefits of basalt, a fully recyclable alternative boat making material to Glass Reinforced Plastic; • Martin Wadhams, Chairman of RS Sailing, will give a unique perspective on sustainability from a manufacturer and class association point of view; • More than 1,200 sailors from 100 nations will race at the 2018 Hempel Sailing World Championships. Klaus Natorp, Head of the event, will give insight into initiatives the mass participation event is undertaking in advance and during the Championships; • Having worked for the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Organising Committees of the Olympic Games as Sustainability Manager, Julie Duffus, now leads the International Olympic Committee’s drive with International Federations. Duffus will outline the importance of sustainability in sport.
