In this episode, I drag my anchor, visit a warship, have an ultimate bbq and get to chill. Lots of boatie stuff in this one . . . enjoy. Thanks to Ran sailing for 2nd camera shots. Thank you for watching this episode, please give us a thumbs up and subscribe. On Facebook our page is ‘Adventures of an old Seadog’ and there you can find ‘realtime’ up-dates and news. Facebook https://www.facebook.com/adventuresofanoldseadog/ If you’d like to help the Old Seadog Please checkout our Patreon page on the link below. https://www.patreon.com/Adventuresofanoldseadog Contributions to the project can be made at paypal.me/seadogadventures Twitter https://twitter.com/barryperrins Thanks so much for your support, The adventure continues. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. After last week's efforts to make the cockpit cushions, we finally gave into the inevitable and bought a Sailrite sewing machine! Nick drops a few f-bombs trying to assemble it (standard!) and once he finally gets it all in working order, he is able to make our new cockpit tent! Spoiler alert: he does an AMAZING job, especially for someone who, two years ago, didn't know how to sew a hem! There will of course be a full review of the sailrite over the coming weeks. Thanks so much for watching! Please subscribe, leave a comment and give a thumbs up. They say "There's nothing more expensive than a free boat," but craigslist has some unicorns every now and then. This 1978 Endeavor 32 we picked up has a 2004 Westerbeke 20B Two engine in it with 270 hours, newer rigging, sails, and in-mast furling, new bronze thru-hulls, seacocks, and a recent full bottom job that repaired blisters and applied a barrier coat, and new anti-fouling. How can you get your own free boat? Well, there's no secret to it. Be diligent about checking craigslist every day. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not-A-Broker Consulting: https://www.patreon.com/notabrokerconsulting Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/learningthelines/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/learningthelines/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's.

A symbol of the new generation Lagoons, the Lagoon 40 is endowed with advanced performance features: a VPLP hull structure and an increased sail area provide a better sail surface area as well as displacement ratio. The Lagoon 52 S undoubtedly passes a new era in the design of cruising catamarans. With its diamond-shaped, vertical stem, the tapered hulls, the floating deck structure and the high rig the Lagoon 52 S already committed color: yet their originality is neither limited to their appearance, nor to the interior design. More details: http://www.masteryachting.com/en/yacht-sales/lagoon/lagoon/lagoon520/ Yachtconfigurator: http://yachtkonfigurator.masteryachting.com/index.php?name=lagoon-52-s-1
The Lagoon 52 F marks a new era in the design of blue water cruising catamarans. The Lagoon 52 F is the result of in depth discussions between the architects at Van Peteghem-Lauriot Prévost (VPLP), the Italian Nauta Design agency and the Lagoon design department. They led us to innovative and sometimes radical choices in terms of elegance, comfort, user-friendliness and, it goes without saying, performance under sail. In this video, Dead Man's Island, I give you the documented history and sobering facts about Dead Man's Island, Nova Scotia. If you like my videos, please SUBSCRIBE to see more, and be sure to give this video a like, Thanks! In August of 2017 I sold everything and moved aboard Balachandra, a 1986 C&C44 sailboat, then sailed it over 300 nautical miles to Halifax Nova Scotia to spend a cold Canadian winter in the frozen waters of the North Atlantic. Sailing Balachandra is my YouTube sailing vlog inspired by other great channels such as Delos and La Vagabonde, which documents the sailing adventures of myself and the occasional crewmembers(s) as we navigate the east coast of North America and beyond. I also dive into lots of DIY boat projects both above and below decks, and share with you all of the pros and cons of living aboard in a cold climate. Sailing Balachandra is published weekly so please subscribe so you don't miss out on future videos! ** NOW SOLD ** Launched in 1997, this Catalina 320 ‘Serenade’ presents a very neat example exclusively listed for sale with YOTI. http://www.yoti.com.au/listing/catalina-320-serenade This Catalina 320 has been well cared for, presents better than some later model options and offers all those great features that we have come to expect with the Catalina name. The 320's boast a very large cockpit with great access to the water by a semi-open transom and large useable swim ladder, cockpit cushions, princess seats and massive cockpit lockers. A furling genoa, electric windlass, self-tailing winches and superior cockpit visibility make the 320 a breeze to sail. Hot water, shore power with battery charger, holding tank, cockpit shower and massive refrigeration all make for easy cruising. Accommodation below decks includes a large V berth, big saloon with drop down table with mattress, big galley, fully enclosed head and shower and large double owners cabin aft. All these features hit home as to why the 320 was one of the most successful yacht models in history. Serenade has been Anti-fouled in just October/November 2017, her covers including dodger present well, the engine was serviced in August 2017 and standing rigging is current. BROKERS REMARKS: "Try Knot" has been lovingly upgraded by her owners with features to include: Brand New Yanmar Engines 39hp (less than 170 hours). She has dockside Air Conditioning, Fusion Stereo, Raymarine e7D with Radar, 420 Watts of Solar, KISS Wind Generator, KVH Trac Vision and Direct TV Receiver, 4000 Continuous Watt with 5000 Peak Inverter, Brand New in box Spectra Watermaker (not installed), 3x Anchors, Dinghy and 8hp Mercury OB included as part of equipment (no title, no BOS, no registration to transfer). BUILDERS REMARKS: The Leopard 38 (or Moorings 3800) is the one of the rare "owners layout". The 38 handles easily, has a large cockpit and a well appointed saloon and cabins. This is the three double cabin version with a master suite occupying the starboard hull and the two cabins in the port hull share heads and showers. The galley is up in the saloon. The deck layout is clear and the mainsheet traveller runs on an arch over the transom giving unimpeded access to the water via a wide aft bathing platform. The transom arch also serves to support the aft end of the bimini and to carry the dinghy. Deep louvre steps shade the forward sloping saloon windows while providing an easy and secure walkway to the saloon roof. The Leopard 38 is a competent performer under sail and power. AVAILABILITY: NOW, in FT Lauderdale, Import Duty Paid, Available to All Buyers, Including US

Sicily to Malta, this is the first passage for us in 2014. It was this year that we started taking more video to capture what we were experiencing. Our cameras were a single Gopro and a small HD4 digital camera, please excuse the shaky captures. Keep watching this space as our journey continues.
There are literally thousands upon thousands of boats on the west coast, and we can’t find one to fit the bill? Up until this point, we had limited our boat search to catamarans, with a price tag of $50,000 or less. Yes, we admit, we probably could find a unicorn faster. But, since we haven’t found our “unicorn” boat, and since we prefer to start cruising in the Great Lakes, the Gulf, then Caribbean first, it makes more sense to leave California and start a new boat search in the place we actually want to start cruising. In this episode, we pack up our Passat and head back to the Midwest — where we both grew up. Our parents graciously let us stay with them while we bounce around the region looking for monohulls. By now we decide that if we want to make it out on the water by the summer, we have to start looking for a boat that doesn’t need any big repairs or require months and months of work to get it cruising ready. Our search takes us back and forth between Michigan and Wisconsin; we see boats in Milwaukee and St. Joseph, on the east and west coast of Lake Michigan, and a few in Detroit on Lake Huron. One boat stands out from the rest — you can tell she’s been loved. Still, she does need some work, and we decide we’re up for the task. Hope you enjoy! I make travel vlogs sharing my ups and downs, adventures on motorbikes, sailboats, and vans. Instagram: @Finding_Simon Snapchat: Finding_Simon Twitter: @FindingSimon Donations: paypal.me/ShelbyandSimon Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/FindingSimon Merchandise: http://simonstiles.com/finding-simon/ :::::::FAQ::::::: - How do you afford to travel constantly? A: I travel really cheap, free camping, cooking my own meals, being as efficient as possible. I make my income almost entirely on YouTube but it's really tight. Ad revenue, patreon, paypal donations, merchandise sales and affiliate links bring in about as much as a part time minimum wage job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough I go back to work, doing photography mostly, sometimes commercial video projects, but it takes me away from my travels and videos. - How much does it cost? I spend on average $2000 travelling, most of which is gas, some repairs, food, and on average less than $200 on any eating out, shopping or extra curricular expenditures. I make $200 a month from YouTube and $400 from Patreon. The rest I make from my work. - What camera do you use? Sony A7ii, DJI Mavic Pro, Rode Videomic with Deadcat, Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, DIY tripods and lights. - What is your bike? 1999 Yamaha Vstar XVS1100 with a Champion Escort sidecar. - What kind of boat is that? It's a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 - What're your plans? Fix it up, run nothing but green power, sail off into the sunset. - How do you find all these cool places? To gain access to my complete research you need to hit me up on Patreon, but here's a few sites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/ https://www.campendium.com/ http://www.atlasobscura.com/ https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - What do you do for Internet? I use coffeeshops and libraries to upload episodes a few at a time, I also use my wifi antenna (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5T9lNM8Mukk&t=2s) and a data package on my phone (10GB) - How do you live on the road with a dog? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with my dog anyways, especially if it's warm out in the middle of the day. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make some decisions, avoiding places that ban dogs, and spending more time out in nature instead of in the cities. - What happened to the girl? We decided to go separate ways (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPgxDIXxCjY&t=4s) - Are you rich or something? definitely not. I've spent some quality time homeless, I've struggled financially most of my life, and although I'm blessed with great friends and family as well as being able bodied white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to travel the world. You need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, time with family, and often your career but it is possible. - Why don't you have 10x more subscribers? My channel isn't that old, many of the bigger channels you can compare mine to started putting out videos a couple years before I began. I could always use your help sharing my videos, spreading the word, and connecting with cross promotional opportunities. Editing and travelling tend to take up all my time. - Where are you now? The top perk on my Patreon page is a live link of my location on google maps so you can get an active idea of where I am currently. If that's not an option for you there's also Instagram and Instagram stories that give you a much better idea of what I'm up to today.
Facebook: M Jambo Sailing
▶ Check out my gear on Kit: https://kit.com/followtheboat Sailing and anchoring in squalls can get chilly, and what better way to warm up than with a tot of whisky? And washed down with some freshly stuffed squid... 🦑 While Liz is drinking whisky, Jamie learns how to cook squid with a squid recipe from the Cruising Chef Cookbook (link below). And the result? Watch till the end to find out. When the squall blows up and a heavy FAD (Fish Attraction Device) drags towards us, we up anchor and move to a safer place. As the rain and wind drives through the anchorage, limiting our viz, we watch it roll right over where we had just been anchored. 💖 If you enjoy or have even learned something from our videos, please LIKE, COMMENT & SUBSCRIBE to our channel! ⛵ SUBSCRIBE TO US ON YOUTUBE! Finally we prepare Nandji to depart Port Villa and sail north to Santo island. We try to check out of the country with Customs, but they won't let us go! https://www.sailingnandji.com In this episode of Sailing Nandji, the time has finally come to prepare Nandji to sail and depart Port Vila, Vanuatu. We get the motor inspected one last time before deciding we are ready to travel. Loading up with supplies and filling the tanks, we have a rougher sail then expected and sail 150nm to Malakula island and spend the night anchored at our own private beach. Next day we tracks to Santo island where we try to check out of the country. This turns out to be a near impossible task as Customs officers all have different ideas about rules and length of lunch breaks! We are a young couple who with no sailing experience, who then bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off, sailing around the Pacific!
