The Peters & May Round Antigua Race produced a record-breaking start to Antigua Sailing Week. American modified Volvo 70 Warrior, sailed by Stephen Murray blasted around the 53-mile course in a record time of 3 hrs 55 mins and 38 secs, demolishing the previous record held by Peter Harrison’s British superyacht Sojana by over 42 minutes. With 20 knots of trade winds pumping up to over 25 knots, Warrior was in her element and after CSA time correction was also awarded the Peters & May Trophy. Anthony McVeigh’s GF51 trimaran 2 2 Tango took line honours for the multihull class. #25 🏝Les Bahamas et leurs REQUINS 🦈 Avez-vous déjà nagés avec les requins? Nous avons eu l'occasion de nager avec eux pour la première fois! Nous étions dans un secteur comptant environ 15 requins nourrisses et  3 requins de récifs qui attendaient de se faire nourrir par les pêcheurs qui passent dans le chenal juste à côté. Bien qu'Anabelle avait d'abord la frousse des requins avant notre départ du Québec, en s'informant auprès des plongeurs des environs, on s’aperçoit qu'il n'y a aucune peur à avoir. D'abord, les requins nourrisses ont de bien trop petites bouches pour prendre une bouchée d'humain!😂 Sinon, les requins de récifs prennent leur distance après avoir jeté un œil pour voir s'il n'y a pas quelque chose à manger dans tes mains (croiser ses bras ou cacher les mains aide à mieux passer le message généralement). It has been quite the year. It has been a lot of repairs and a lot of planning and a lot of provisioning. We are so close to casting off on our big adventure to the Bahamas I can feel the cool breeze and see the crystal clear water now. The Boat Life has come a long way and it has been all beautiful landscapes and relaxation. We have fixed and repair many parts of our sailboat, Dodi, and planned and practiced in preparation for our sail to the Bahamas! It is hard to believe it has taken over a year to get to this point of almost sailing away after buying our boat. This is The Boat Life. Nic Morganti and Melissa Auman are moving onto a sailboat. The plan was sell everything, buy a boat, live on a boat, and travel and explore the Caribbean and the world while living aboard! The uniform is boardshorts and bikinis. Cabin side box frames How To! The Roberts 370E Yacht I am building has a significant compound curve to it. However I want to install Lewmar opening port lights in the cabin sides but they will not fit flat or seal correctly because of the curvature. How to get around this! I addressed this issue by fabricating steel box frames with a recessed flat inner sealing face, which allows me to install the Lewmar port lights. Once made, I am able to inset the frames into the cabin side positioning them in such a way that the frames followed the cabin curve, but still provided a flat surface to install the openers. We had mixed feelings about leaving Lefkas - it was sad to say goodbye to our new friends but we were really excited about setting sail again. We did last minute shopping, engine checks and a rig inspection from where we could see all the walks we'd done during winter on the Island of Lefkada - the snow covered mountains, the beaches, monasteries, wetlands and castles. When we finally set sail again, we had fantastic wind. First off we headed for Petalas where the Gulf of Patras starts and saw dolphins. The kids planned the passage as part of their homeschooling as well as doing their algebra maths, English and science in exotic places. We visited Messolonghi, wnet under the Rio bridge where we had some concerns about air draft - particularly as BOTH VHS stopped working and we lost contact with the bridge and worried the roof of our home might be wiped out! Next we sheltered on the Island of Trizonia. There's no one managing it or looking after and there're a lot of abandoned and sunken boats; where a lot of cruising dreams had apparently come to an end and animals had taken up residency on some of the boats.. a goose and a cat! We rifled through a tip to try to find microwave and washing machine spares too! A leak and solenoid problems on the generator meant we couldn;t run the washing machine, heat the water or use the sockets etc., and we had to charge the batteries and ration the water. Woody diagnosed and fixed the water leak but the solenoids needed replacing and we had no spares. Next stop was Itea - about a 20 miles along the Gulf of Patras near Delphi. When we got to the Temple of Delfi it was great but a bit of a culture shock as there were masses of people! Our final stop in the Gulf of Patras - Kiato. The weather improved so we got the paddleboard and swing out and Woody even opened up our new Magma barbecue. The journey to get from Lefkas, up the Gulf of Patras to the Corinth canal was about ten days with stops on the way. In the next blog we head through the canal and into the Aegean sea. Two other Fountaine Pajot catamarans joined us for the passage over to Port Resolution, Vanuatu. But before we could clear out of Fiji, we had to celebrate the Admiral's birthday! Once that was properly celebrated, the race was on! We jumped out strong at the start but faced a few challenges along the way, including a pretty significant mechanical failure. Fortunately, we managed an emergency repair (in the middle of the night!) and worked hard to make up the lost ground, trying out different sail combinations and playing the forecasted wind shifts.
