Episode 2 continues with our trip to the Philippines with our family and friends. This episode begins with beautiful Boracay Beach. Our kids loved it. I didn't think we would ever get Cayla back to the USA. I was able to refresh my dive skills with the Blue Mango Dive Resort and experience the Camia wreck dive. We also visit a local barangay (neighborhood) on Boracay that shows life behind the beach resorts. Here we exchange songs and stories with the local kids along with some crafts. Next we head off to Puka Shell Beach on the northern end of Boracay. (Also known as Yapak Beach). At the time of this video, Puka beach has more coral to see and is fun for beginners learning to snorkel. I found the cutest kids trying to catch some crabs. At the end of this episode we spent some time helping with construction at the local Red Cross center on Boracay and tutoring in a local school. Lastly, we ended up at an Indian restaurant for dinner and relaxation. In this episode we begin by visiting another Ati Village on Panay. We had a great time playing soccer with the kids, doing crafts with them and fellowshipping around a meal. Later that night we head to dinner at Mongolian BBQ and walk the night market at D' Talipapa. We end this episode by hiring a local sailboat called a 'Paraw' and sailing along the beach stopping to snorkel with the kids. This was definitely a highlight of the trip. Our Pearson 36 Cutter, did a 2-day passage from Lake Superior’s Apostle Islands to Superior-Duluth in light air. With Tim and Chuck along as my crew, we anchored overnight at Sand Island’s Lighthouse Bay, passed through debris fields from recent, heavy rainstorms, enjoyed a pleasant light-air sail, and were passed by the 1,000-footer Stewart J. Cort before arriving at Barkers Island Marina.

We have to navigate the notorious Swellies in the Menai Strait which is noted for the difficulty in navigating it. It has shoals, rocks, surges and (occasionally) whirlpools and planning your passage through it requires careful study of all the pilotage marks that have been installed over the years. As if it was not difficult enough, it seems to have sprouted a new hazard as Jet skis and RIB "thrill-seekers" now tear through and often approach yachts closely, presumably to give the paying punters a good view, but the wake turbulence they cause is very unpleasant and you cannot manoeuvre to avoid it. http://www.saltylass.co.uk/navigating-the-swellies-menai-strait-north-wales.html

We visit Portsmouth briefly in the evening - it is a very beautiful town and we wished we had time to see more of it. But the threatening weather forecast pushes us to move on. So the next morning we start sailing Massachusetts coast via Cape Ann, and we stop for shelter in Gloucester, where we spend 3 days. We enjoy visiting the town, and here we also make new friends, Brittany and Larry, who invite us at their home for dinner.
