Guest host Paul Trammell is back and interviews David Young who lives in Jacksonville Florida on his Endeavour 35 yacht, built in 1984. He shares his experience on Pacific voyaging, using parachute anchors and drogues, 4 decades of ocean sailing; starting with pilot charts, radio direction finders and sextants and talks about evolution to GPS, the risks of GPS navigating and the explosive growth in confident technology-equipped cruisers. David met the famous sailor ‘Bernard Moitessier’ in the early eighties at a boat yard in Northern California, when was building his new steel yacht ‘Joshua’. David shares some of Bernard’s advice about handling storms and various sea states, along with staying well off the coast in onshore gales.  David yacht was ship wrecked off the northern coast of San Francisco in a bad gale after rolling through 360 degrees and losing his mast. Bernard Moitessier new yacht ‘Joshua’ was also beached and wrecked in a subsequent Cabo San Lucas storm with 30-40 other yachts a few years later. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

This part of the ICW between South Carolina and Georgia was by far some of the most beautiful, yet treacherous territory we have explored yet! We even encountered the most fascinating wildlife, and lots of it! Let's just say alligators and dolphins were pretty much swimming next to us, at all times and it was incredible! Ein Segeltörn im Gezeitenrevier der Nordsee. Diese Segel-Filmreihe führt uns über die Nordsee sowie durch den Nationalpark Wattenmeer. Ein wunderschönes Segelrevier, besonders in diesem sonnigen und warmen Sommer 2018. Wenn du Lust hast, kannst du uns auf diesem schönen Nordsee-Segeltörn am Bildschirm begleiten. Dieser kurze Törnabschnitt führt uns von der Insel Amrum nach Wyk auf Föhr. Hier verbringen wir ein Paar schöne Tage im gut ausgerüsteten Hafen. Das Wetter ist derzeit etwas kippelig. Mit Rad und Rosi im Gepäck erkunden wir die Insel Amrum. Den weiteren Törnverlauf bestimmt die (Ge)Zeit und das Wetter. Ahoi NORDSEE TOM PS: Der blöde Schatten oben rechts am Bildschirm stammt vom defekten Automatikverschluss der Kamera. Auf dem Kniepsand ist wohl Sand eingeweht und nun ist diese defekt. Ich habe diese so gut wie es geht fixiert damit ich weiter filmen kann.

SF has more to offer than we had to explore! Pier 39 was our home for 10 days. Michonne enjoyed the city life. We encountered street performers, good food, great people and a bike ride. San Francisco stole our hearts.
