Depois de dias de manutenção estávamos loucos para dar uma saidinha do pier, já estávamos quase criando cracas! Acabamos por ir para a Praia da Fazenda, na Ilha da Gipóia. De lá, pegamos uma trilhinha para a Praia das Flechas, que tem um mergulho ainda mais lindo. E então, aquele churrasco com nossos amigos do Strega e Caratinga para fechar o dia com chave de ouro!

When we finally set sail from Tunisia on overnight passage to Sicily we went straight into the middle of several unforecast lightning storms! Made for an exciting night! On arrival it was amazing to rediscover the joys of Italian food in the beautiful Egadi islands and also made it back to where we started our journey last year on Nikau - Cagliari in Sardinia. We have a bit of drama with the acceleration failing on our rental car and David gets a particularly unfortunate home haircut but it's all part of the adventure (that's how we roll these days). We are now heading west and stocking up in preparation for the Atlantic crossing soon. We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures! Pulled the boat engine wiring harness out of our Bayliner Bowrider 175 and it looks like a rats nest. Wires have been burn, some things have been honkey customized. Spent 3 hours cleaning this up and the results are amazing, I will go into more detail on where the wires run to in the next video. While working on this boat wiring harness we saw were the mechanic had attempted to repair it. I spent half the time on this boat wiring harness repair pulling of,f what looked like, two rolls of electric tape. When doing wiring you don't want to do this, on a boat the tape will hold in water, also while making future repairs much harder. Follow along as we breath new life into this 2004 Bayliner Bowrider. We had quite a rough night anchored at Rat Cay last night and only got 2 hours of sleep. Today we are getting some exercise by hiking across to the windward side of the island. Kenzie's knee is feeling much better now and we're going to see if we can make it further than we did last time we were here. There is a trail that goes across the island to the windward side. You will know you are on the path by seeing various trash items along the way. Once you get to the windward side, you're pretty much on your own and will have to bush whack your way through the rough terrain if you want to go any further. Randall took on the challenge and hiked his way through what Kenzie would call "Spider Heaven", leaving Kenzie behind. While on Great Guana Cay we found many large spiders as big as Randall's hand, and also one lazy looking snake. We spent two days at Great Guana Cay before picking up anchor and sailing further north along the Exumas Bank. * Update July 2019. We have had reports of stolen antifoul and severe malpractice since our visit to Port de Peche. Ryadh [21:25] https://www.facebook.com/BoatYachtServices/ has since set up his own business and we would only recommend contacting him for work in Tunisia. _______ The last blog left us in our little apartment getting electrocuted.. but with WiFi! We had toilets issues with our youngest (and Woody!) deciding to try out the Arabic 'hose pipes' instead of toilet tissue - let’s just say it wasn't pleasant. There was a laser zone near the apartment which the kids made full use of with their French friends who'd sailed in from Malta. We also met Ahmed, a lovely young guy who found us a violin school! But our boat was priority. Our bank refused to transfer money to Tunisia and we couldn't pay by Visa/Mastercard either so we had to draw out the maximum amount every day from the cash point (ATM) and we were concerned about covering costs. Tunisia is one of the cheapest if not THE cheapest place in the Mediterranean to get boat repairs done. But Port De Peche is still a working port - dirty, polluted and grimy with little Health and Safety. Woody was bitten by a boat yard dog and it’s not a place you’d normally take a family. One of the boats even fell from the crane - a bit disconcerting when you're about to launch! The strops of the crane were filthy and gritty and even though we put plastic on the hull, as you'll see in later blogs it wasn't enough to protect the new antifoul. Costs and pricing weren't always clear - forget computers and spreadsheets - it was all done with scraps of paper, drawings, a nod and handshake. With a language barrier too there is a lot of room for.. misinterpretation. So, we paid slightly more than we expected in the end and marked it down to experience but it was still a good deal. We made some good friends there too - Rihad - one of the workmen visited our boat with his wife and baby on our final night and we had a good chat about Tunisian life and their dreams of emigrating to Canada. Wages are low and conditions are tough for poor families without connections in Tunisia. Having said that, it's one of the more progressive liberal Islamic countries where Hijabs seem to be optional and ultra-conservatives rub shoulders with long haired girls in jeans. After replacing the sails, we headed North and managed a visit to a lovely cafe in Hammamet old town medina which we'd visited about eight years ago on a previous visit and topped up on banana splits! We anchored for a few days in the Gulf and the ‘pirate’ boats were a hit with the kids who loved copying the crew, swinging in the rigging and hanging off the spreaders. We refuelled and provisioned but even on a fuel dock you have to check in and out - they kind of like their paperwork - but the offices were full of armed guards so it's a bit disconcerting. Kalibia / Calibia - another fishing port - was our final stop as we waited for a weather window for Sardinia. Not the nicest place for the kids' birthdays but we found a lovely beach and restaurant called Monaco Bay where we could briefly escape from fishy smells and flies! We faced customs/coastguard/police/port authorities for the last time - always a complicated procedure, but especially when they lose your paperwork - then finally left for Sardinia! So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

We restock the fridge before checking out of Bermuda and beginning our solo trip across the Atlantic to the Azores! We find that it is so much more relaxing to sail long-term without crew, but we schedule a bit with the watch schedule. But what is there, is well worth a visit. We hopped on a flight to Uluru and spent a couple memorable days being wilderness explorers. To start things off, you have to wake up really early in the morning to go and watch the sun rise. Something magical happens when the first rays of the morning hit the rock, it literally turns a vivid red. You have to see it to believe it. After sunrise we, did the basewalk to get a feel for just how massive Uluru truly is. Pro tip... bring a lot of water, it gets hot! Our other big experience at Uluru was the Sound of Silence dinner. This was a repeat for Amy, who'd been here 10 years ago with her dad and brother. We greatly enjoyed seeing stars from horizon to horizon which is normally something we only get to see from our boat. The dinner also brought in an astronomer to explain the constellations we were seeing and share some of the Aboriginal legends about the stars. To cap off our outback exploration, we drove on to Kings Canyon within the Watarrka National Park. There we did a rim hike that rose to a place on my top hikes of all time. It was simply stunning. Red rocks, vivid blue sky and a literal Garden of Eden to relax in. What more could you ask for?? Thanks for watching! This episode we are based in another one of the Society Islands in French Polynesia, Raiatea/Tahaa. We find the anchorages tricky with the steep topography of the sea floor, and check out a wicked coral garden. Some of the best snorkelling we have done yet and a nice spot to hang out for a few days next to the resort.
