In this episode we receive a generous gift from a viewer and we untie the lines! We move the boat out of our slip with the assistance of a deckhand to the fule dock. Why? This #Forney Easy Welder is better than I expected, very easy to use and gets good metal penetration with only 120-volt wall plug. I was really light so it would be easy to move and with the ability to weld 3/16 metal can handle some moderate jobs. 2 Year Review Forney Flux Core Welder, 120-Volt,: https://youtu.be/cjsrk6nJidk This would work well for personal welding or in a muffler shop where you are dealing with a lot of little metal and just a lot of tacking. I would not recommend this if you are a welding pro, the duty cycle on this is not going to be enough to do them really big jobs. Some people call it a MIG machine although it does not require shielding gas like a typical MIG machine does. It also might be referred to as a wire feed welding machine, but just understand that you cannot add gas to this machine. Forney Easy Weld machines are perfect for the beginner welder or the do it yourselfer. With these machines, you can easily turn inspiration and ideas into masterpieces. For the novice welder who has always wanted to give welding a try but may have been intimidated, these machines are designed for you. Do you have a broken lawnmower or cracked garden utensils? Are you thinking of creating metal art or building a fire pit for your backyard? If you answered yes or have different easy metalworking projects in mind, Forney Easy Weld offers two machines to get you started. The Forney Easy Weld 100 ST Stick/TIG machine and the Forney Easy Weld 125 FC flux core machine. Troubleshooting Why is my 125 FC Welder not welding correctly? 1. Wire feed tension: Check the tension on the despooler. Is it set too tight or is the wire feed tension not set correctly? 2. Wire choice: Are you using .035” wire? We recommend .030" for best performance. 3. Stickout: Is your stickout too long? Your stickout should be no more than ½”. Here's a short video on determining stickout. 4. Pull the trigger: To begin welding, pull the trigger on the MIG gun. 5. Proper grounding: The ground should not be attached to painted or coated metal. The 125 FC (ITEM 299) machine is capable of welding 1/8" steel and the plug can be 15 amps but the breaker should be 20 amps. The power cord uses a 15 amp cord. The Basics of Welding The Forney Easy Weld 125 FC comes with a ground clamp and a MIG gun. It uses .030" flux-core wire which means the flux is built into the wire and provides the shielding needed over the molten weld puddle. For thin material, set the machine to thin plate with a higher wire feed speed. For thicker material, set it on steel plate with a lower wire feed speed. Make sure the ground clamp is attached to a metal work bench or the actual metal you want to work with. When you begin to weld, make sure you’re comfortable. Always try to maintain your stick out at 3/8”. The stick out is the distance between the tip of the electrode and your workpiece. Think of welding like driving a car, the stick out is similar to controlling the following distance from the car in front of you. Remember to control the travel speed of the weld. Think of this like controlling your speed when you’re driving. Lastly, focus on the path. You want a nice and consistent weld, similar to staying in your lane when driving. The learning curve is about a half hour of practice and you’ll start to get the hang of it. The Forney Easy Weld 125 FC is a great machine for do it yourselfers, first time welders or hobbyists and it comes with a 6 month warranty. #chrisdoeswhat #dininginwithdanielle #homaidchef

In August of 2017 I sold everything and moved aboard Balachandra, a 1986 C&C44 sailboat, then sailed it over 300 nautical miles to Halifax Nova Scotia to spend a cold Canadian winter in the frozen waters of the North Atlantic. Sailing Balachandra is my YouTube sailing vlog inspired by other great channels such as Delos and La Vagabonde, which documents the sailing adventures of myself and the occasional crewmembers(s) as we navigate the east coast of North America and beyond. This week we pulled the trigger and took home a little Dominican puppy. We have seen first hand how well a dog can protect a boat plus they are just so fun. Of course it will be more work and potty training could be fun but we are up for it. We also knock out some important boat projects this week, give our newly acquired dinghy a name and take our first bike ride through the hills to La Isabella. In this episode I really need to get Mistress levelled in order to be able to properly build the fit-out by being able to use levels, plumb bob’s and the laser level to make the end result square and level. It, of course, was much more time consuming than thought! I then get to work fitting some threaded rod to the for’ward stringers to help support the for’ward stiffeners in order to be able to strongly support the V berth. LOVING it that I am now on the fit-out boatwork! There were many reasons why, but the work stopped,... However, the work has re-started, thankfully, and I am on an exciting journey to finish Mistress and then go on my sailing adventures,... s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) left Herring Bay MD on a crisp bright day, and after a long day of motoring we anchored in the dark, in Fisher Bay, Deltaville VA. Overnight the wind picks up, and next morning we set off for a great downwind sailing to Norfolk VA. It’s been so long since we sailed, that we forgot basic tasks, like tighten the halyards, or how to rig the pole correctly. It was a very enjoyable sailing trip, despite the rolling and the cold wind. In Norfolk, we dock right next to the historical town and the NOAA center, thanks to Gary & Greta, the OCC port officer, who arranged it for us. We were planning to stay for a couple of days, but the weather had other arrangements for us. We monitored PredictWind on daily basis, till we eventually got the right weather window for Bermuda. So we ended up spending a week in Norfolk, most of which was spent onboard, with jobs: cut holes in the cockpit tent for the mainsail and runner lines, re-seal master cabin window, flush the main engine and the generator raw water system. We do manage to squeeze a walk in Norfolk Town, on the only day when it didn’t rain! 6-16 Nov 2018

Check out our SWEET Site: http://bit.ly/gwtw-home ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We’re setting sail for the Tuamotus and I’m giddy like an eight-year-old chasing down the ice cream truck (yes, I really did do that once). The Marquesas have been incredible (aside from the crazy rash) but I’m itching (pun intended) to see the famous French Polynesia atolls. The Tuamotus are known as the dangerous archipelago or the Danger Islands. The looming coral reef and narrow passes, if timed poorly, can more closely resemble rafting a class five rapid than sailing. We’ve read some harrowing reports of three meter standing waves meeting a six-knot current that are not to be tangoed with. Doesn’t exactly give tadpoles like us the warm and fuzzies. But, the idea of sailing and swimming inside what is essentially a sunken volcano kinda blows my mind. Curiosity trumps hesitation any day for me. Plus, our fellow cruisers have left impeccably detailed notes on how to calculate the tides and how to approach each atoll. Our first Tuamotu is less than 500 nautical miles away, which is only a few days sail! But, as we were sailing away from the Marquesas, it hit me just how much planning goes into this salty way of life. So, I decided to take the opportunity to share how we planned this passage. So Join us as we set sail from the Marquesas Islands towards the the Dangerous Islands. It's French Polynesia Sailing at it's finest! "It was very tight and just fantastic to be with PowerPlay in the ocean for so many days; and so close together. It was really exciting for us. We learnt a lot about our boat and also from PowerPlay." Peter Cunningham's MOD70 PowerPlay, skippered by Ned Collier Wakefield was less than 46 minutes behind Maserati, finishing at 07:40:12 UTC after seven days of a fascinating duel and taking first place in the MOCRA Class. "We had good speed and the weather was great, although a few squalls came in. Using a yacht as your mobile back country ski lodge to explore some of the most stunning scenery the world can offer - ski touring does not get any better than this.
There was way too much wind to go sailing for Day 1 of the 2018 Sir Peter Blake Regatta at Torbay Sailing Club but everyone still had an awesome day. Blair Tuke signed autographs and chatted with the kids, Gareth Moore, Dan Slater and Andrew Brown conducted tuning clinics and Live Sail Die did beachside photo shoots (pics coming soon). Fingers crossed we get on the water for Day 2!

In this episode of Sailing A B Sea we're celebrating Turkish Republic Day and we have another digital disaster as our raw footage hard drive has a nervous breakdown. October 29th is Turkish Republic Day and we were lucky enough to be in Kas town to experience the event. Then we had another digital disaster and lost all of our raw video footage. We think we did quite well in salvaging what we could from the digital disaster to bring you this week's Sailing A B Sea episode. For your convenience, we’ve included Amazon links. A step by step instructional video on repairing a major tear in an inflatable boat made of hypalon or pvc. RIB repair, dinghy repair.
A slow start: who said owning a sail boat was glamorous? Refitting, repairing, and preparing an old sailboat for a summer surf and sail adventure. Paint the bilge, battle the metal water tanks, the "joy" of marine sika, a glorious sail through Pittwater, and the cicada maestro.

In this video, we show how to make fiberglass parts over plywood. In our case we needed a hatch cover that can be used to go over the teak hatches in the deck as we put them in the workshop and rebuild each one. I suspect that it will take me a few weeks to do each teak hatch, so I needed something that would last and hold out wind, weather and water during rain and what not. Here I made a simple frame and surface out of scrap pieces of wood and then covered it all with fiberglass mat, showed how to use surf cloth as well as plain old epoxy, filler and fairing. All in all it turned out pretty good. It will more than do the job and fairing sure brought out the smooth surface and covered some of the imperfections so don't sweat it if you are not loving your first layup, it can be fixed. :) Keywords: How to lay up firberglass, How to make fiberglass parts, How to make a hatch, using fiberglass matt, how to fair fiberglass, how to paint fiberglass, how to sand fiberglass. What's it like to sail over 600 miles along the western coast of North Africa from Gibraltar to the Canary Islands? Well turns out its pretty action packed, we encountered strong winds, ripped our genneka in the middle of the night, had some midnight visitors of crazy critters and even saw a whale! Watch and enjoy! We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures! We would love to hear from you. Especially if you are interested in doing something crazy like we are! Maybe we can help answer some questions you have? Thanks and enjoy.

Alicante averages 3,000 hours of sunshine a year While October is one of the wetter months for Alicante, that’s still not very wet, and it rarely rains for long here. The average daytime temperature is 24C in October, but bring a jacket for the evening Race Village stroll as it cools off to 15C at night. Over and above anything else the start of the 2017-18 edition of the race is not to be missed as it marks the beginning of nine months of storms, speed, life-changing stories, stunning imagery and nail-biting finishes in an epic journey around the world.

After spending a couple of months in San Francisco Bay, we continue moving south toward Southern California. We travel non stop from San Francisco Bay to Avalon Harbor on Santa Catalina Island where we spend a week before continuing on to Dana Point Harbor to prepare our boat for sale. She will stay at the Nordhavn headquarters in Dana Point CA while we list her for sale and prepare to continue our attempt to travel the world by small boat in a slightly larger small boat- hopefully in the near future. In this episode, we show footage of what life is like on passage while running the boat non stop for 58 hours. This episode ends with our arrival in Avalon Harbor, but we will show more in our next episode about our week on the island before continuing on to Dana Point Harbor

I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel the world. I make vlogs sharing my ups and downs, and my adventures in vans, on motorbikes, and on sailboats. - Who is Champ? Champ is my handsome 14-year-old Labrador, who travelled almost everywhere with me for his whole life. He loves chin scratches, fetching sticks, and scarfing down cheeseburgers and pizza. - What camera equipment do you use? I use a Panasonic FZ2500, a DJI Mavic Pro, a Rode video micro with Deadcat, a Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, as well as DIY tripods and lights. - What are your vehicles? I drove a 1992 Dodge Ram B350 camper van all over North America for about two years. Travelling by motorcycle made for some unique trips. I explored the Canadian Maritimes (and deserts and backroads all over the continent) on a 2002 Kawasaki KL250 Super Sherpa dual sport bike, and also rode my 1999 Yamaha V-Star XVS1100 cruiser with a Champion Escort sidecar across my home country twice. From land to water travels: I currently live and work on a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 catamaran. - What are your plans with the boat? I will fix it up, run it on nothing but green electric power, and sail off into the sunset. Stay tuned for the growing build and the adventures to come! - How do you find all these cool places we see in the videos? To gain access to my complete research and the world traveller’s map I curate during my explorations off the beaten path, you need to hit me up on Patreon. Here are a few websites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/, https://www.campendium.com/, http://www.atlasobscura.com/, https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - How do you afford your lifestyle? I live and travel economical by using free camping and mooring, cooking my own meals, thoroughly researching products and how-to’s online, practicing a DIY approach, and being as efficient as possible with my resources. I've struggled financially for most of my life, and although I'm blessed with helpful friends and family as well as being able-bodied, white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to pursue your passion. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.
