How to Make a Fiberglass Hatch
In this video, we show how to make fiberglass parts over plywood. In our case we needed a hatch cover that can be used to go over the teak hatches in the deck as we put them in the workshop and rebuild each one. I suspect that it will take me a few weeks to do each teak hatch, so I needed something that would last and hold out wind, weather and water during rain and what not. Here I made a simple frame and surface out of scrap pieces of wood and then covered it all with fiberglass mat, showed how to use surf cloth as well as plain old epoxy, filler and fairing. All in all it turned out pretty good. It will more than do the job and fairing sure brought out the smooth surface and covered some of the imperfections so don't sweat it if you are not loving your first layup, it can be fixed. :) Keywords: How to lay up firberglass, How to make fiberglass parts, How to make a hatch, using fiberglass matt, how to fair fiberglass, how to paint fiberglass, how to sand fiberglass.
