Living aboard and travelling in a 34ft yacht and in a motorhome with four kids. We head around to Arid Island from Port Fitzroy and back again. We are a family of six who are taking some time out of normal life to travel. We’ve pulled the kids from school and are home schooling while on the road and the water. We spend time aboard our 34ft sailing boat in NZ and have bought a motorhome in Europe so as to tour the other side of the world. We’re keeping our memories on video here and the kids write narration and play guitars so we have music to use in the videos.
In this episode we head back out onto the Neuse River, cross it, and then head south to Beaufort North Carolina, as we make our way South! We reflect on the lessons learned from our passage around Chicken Rock and the bottom of the Isle of Man, but sadly our cruise around the Irish Sea was coming to an end. We also discuss how to "build your own riser" if you have to moor up to a harbour wall that lacks risers. http://www.saltylass.co.uk/lessons-learned-whilst-sailing.html ----- Music ----- Nazar Rybak - Little Friends Royalty Free Music from HookSounds http://www.hooksounds.com
Using a robotic arm to mill complex pieces takes a fraction of the time that a human would take to do the same task. This frees our crew up to perform other jobs that a robot can't do as well as people. The addition of these 8-axis robotic arms, and our 3-axis CNCs have allowed us to develop our own tooling accurately, quickly, and gives us the ability to rapidly prototype new designs.
https://www.networkyachtbrokersbarcelona.com/ https://www.european-yacht-charters.com/ This is a beautiful and rare example of a Van de Stadt Norman Deck Saloon Sailing Yacht. In 2009 she underwent a major refit costing around €140.000. During this extensive refit, almost all functional items were replaced including the teak deck, engine and standing rigging. The actual owner maintained her in exceptional conditions. We can say that she is ready to sail and we strongly recommend a viewing. WOOHOOO! I make a start on building the bulkheads for the for'ward V berth,.. I also introduce and explain a VERY ingenious boat building tool - the "toggle = joggle stick" ! There were many reasons why, but the work stopped,... However, the work has re-started, thankfully, and I am on an exciting journey to finish Mistress and then go on my sailing adventures,... I hope that you can join along with me! https://www.youtube.com/user/bmwfreedom https://www.symistress.com https://www.patreon.com/symistress https://www.paypal.me/symistress bmwfreedom@gmail.com https://www.facebook.com/bruce.wilson.1481 Music thanks www.bensound.com Creative Minds & Funkysuspense
Oh dear…This one’s for you dreamers out there who will one day become newbie boat owners, just like us. Take notes! Hopefully you won’t have to make these same mistakes. Last episode, we had issues with our centerboard, which were — surprise! — caused by yours truly. We ended up running aground, because unbeknownst to us, our board had dropped down; the temporary line we had slung under the boat to hold the board up had slipped off the keel. After building a new mast plug to properly crank the board back up into the trunk, we had to haul out to free the stuck centerboard pennant. This whole ordeal turned out to be Bad Thing #1. Finally, all was well, and we were back on the river, heading south. The mast unstepping and haul out had us feeling pretty ragged, and in desperate need of a hot shower. We arrived at our first marina only to find they had no such thing, only port-a-potties. They did have diesel, so we quickly filled up and rushed off to the next marina with water, forgetting to put the fuel cap back on the deck fill. This led to Bad Thing #2. At the next marina, Kirk thought it would be a good idea to clean the boat, as she was incredibly dirty after spending three days in the boat yard under the Skyway Bridge. With the fuel cap still off, this meant all the water he sprayed was washing right down the deck and into the fuel tank. *Facepalm. Water in our fuel was very very bad. The guys in the service center at the marina told us if it was a small amount of water, we could probably get away with replacing our fuel filter and all would be well. We set about changing the filter — for our first time ever. After the swap, we started the engine, and it fired right up! We ran it for 30 minutes, and this, we read, should mean we’re in the clear. As this took us the better part of the afternoon to figure out how to change the filter, we decided to continue our journey the next morning. We spent the evening applying sound deadening material to our engine room. The next morning, we fired up the engine (again!) and set off south. We made it 1/4 of a mile… and the engine DIED. Bad Thing #3. We drifted, slowly losing steering. Kirk threw the dinghy in the water and rowed us the last few hundred feet toward a dock, but before we could get there, we ran aground, again. What did we do wrong? Why wouldn’t the engine start? We wracked our brains. You need three things to run a diesel engine: compression, oxygen and fuel. Kirk knew it couldn’t be the first two — we didn’t change anything with those. It had to be a fuel problem, but we had ran the engine for a half hour already. How could there still be air in the lines? We tried bleeding them again, to no avail. Then, we remembered towing was included in our insurance coverage, and we figured, this is as good of time as any to call for a tow. An hour later, an incredibly nice tow boat operator from BoatUS brought us back to the marina we had just left. Now, to figure out why the engine wouldn’t start… We’ll let you watch to find out what happens. ;) Hope you enjoy! Lauren & Kirk P.S. This live chat is about a two week holiday on SV Esper with followtheboat, the kind of holiday that would usually cost thousands of $$$, but we're offering for FREE to one lucky winner and partner. AND THIS IS THE FIRST OF MANY HOLIDAYS TO COME WHICH WILL BE UP FOR GRABS! 1. This is going to appeal to two different types of people: ◦ Someone who is thinking of becoming a world cruiser, and wants some practical experience ◦ Or someone who watches our videos and enjoys the journey and would relish the chance to see it firsthand 2. This opportunity is open to our Patrons! ◦ Patrons are people who like what we do, and support us on this adventure. ◦ This is our way of giving them something back. ◦ Anyone can be a Patron. It costs as little as $2 a month (the price of a cup of coffee) to join our fantastic Patron Mates. 3. And not only that, this is NOT a ONE-OFF, it’s gonna become a regular partnof FTB 4. The reason why we’re talking about this now: ◦ We’re getting very close to our goal, in fact we’re over 75% there! ◦ To be eligible you have to have been a Patron for three months, so get in on the action NOW! PATREON and SUPERCHATTER question time codes: 07:09 How will you be picking the winner? 09:59 Will you be looking for crew across big oceans? 13:18 How much will it cost a Patron to come aboard for a week? And is this just for Patrons or can the Patron’s spouse come along too? 15:52 Is there an itinerary for our time on board? And do you anticipate any overnight passage making during the course of our stay? 17:42 Will we be on the watch bill? And what sort of duties will we be expected to perform? 24:45 What do you consider prerequisites to qualify as a good fit? 29:34 What should we bring with us? Should we bring gloves for "landlubber" hands? What do you think are must-haves? 33:28 How will allowing Patrons on board affect your progress of moving towards the Pacific passage? 35:16 Does Liz use pyjamas, or underwear to sleep in? If Jamie sleeps in the nude, this may be a deal breaker... 37:50 While on Esper will there be travel that will take us into more than one country? If so, how do we work out in advance any visa issues? Will the stay on board begin and end in the same location? 42:47 What happens if Millie violently reacts to a temporary crew member? Does their temporary status become that of keel hauled? 45:14 Is there a possibility of meeting American McGee? 46:42 What equipment should a visitor expect to bring (e.g., PFD, harness, foul weather gear, sleeping bag, etc.?) 49:36 How flexible are you with dietary restrictions (e.g., vegetarian, pescatarian, etc.?) 51:59 In some episodes you have been cooking in the galley. Do you ever cook outside e.g. on a grill or in a solar oven? 52:58 Do you think you’ll eventually sail to the UK or the Med or does that not appeal? Thank you for watching! Love, Liz, Jamie and Millie xxx ***BECOME A PATRON*** If you regularly enjoy our YouTube content, please do consider becoming one of our Mates! All support through Patreon goes towards our videos. We spent a week at the marina and then decided to anchor in the bay. There is plenty of space and the holding is good. But most importantly I wanted to test life a anchor for long a period of time. There is only one marina in Cape Verde. So anchoring is the only way to live aboard. And you'll get a look a what life aboard is like here in Mindelo Bay. http://tulasendlesssummer.com/shop-tula/ The wind was perfect to sail a bit from Salt Ponds Marina in Hampton, VA to the technical start of the ICW (Intracoastal Waterway) around Norfolk/Portsmouth. Once the waterway narrowed too much for us to safely and effectively sail we took the sails down and watched all the commercial and military activity go by. Nacho Postigo navegador My Song RORC Transatlantic Record 10 días 5 horas 47 minutos 11 segundos.

Pier Luigi Loro Piana's Supermaxi My Song finished the 2018 RORC Transatlantic Race on Tuesday 04 December 2018 at 17:47:11 UTC, taking Monohull Line Honours. The Baltic 130, owned by Pier Luigi Loro Piana, a member of the International Maxi Association (IMA), has also set a new Monohull Race Record after completing the 3,000 mile race between Lanzarote and Grenada in an elapsed time of 10 days 5 hrs 47 mins 11 secs, shaving 1hr 19mins 48 secs off the previous race record set in 2015 race by Jean-Paul Riviere's French Finot-Conq 100, Nomad IV. “I am tasting the Caribbean right now!” smiled My Song Navigator Nacho Postigo sipping an ice cold beer courtesy of Camper & Nicholsons Port Louis Marina. “The conditions for a Transatlantic Race were the best I have ever had. Almost every day we had very few squalls and at night we had brilliant stars so it was fantastic. After getting through the pressure ridge at the start, the wind was between 16-22 knots which is perfect and really pleasant. The main objective for us was to safely get the boat to the Caribbean. After the first few days we were 240 miles behind the record, so we just forgot about it. Then slowly we were cutting it down and in the last three days, every half an hour someone was coming to the chart table, wanting to know if we were on record pace. Personally I love coming to Grenada, the atmosphere of the island, the fantastic sailing but especially the people who are super super nice.”

I am very happy.” commented Pier Luigi Loro Piana. “A little bit of rain at the end was fine but we hope Grenada will show us some more sunshine.” Pier Luigi had a message for his fellow members of the International Maxi Association. “They have to continue cruising and racing if they want to enjoy sailing."
