Especially when talking about more remote places such as the Faroe Islands and Svalbard, we try to include maps to give people a better sense of our location. We created this real time update while in Svalbard and, with limited time and internet access, we downloaded one of the first copyright free maps we came across without really taking note of any locations outside of where we were sailing. That was a mistake on our part. We strive to hold ourselves to the highest standard and, though mistakes do happen, we try our best to be as accurate as possible...and to own up to mistakes when they do happen. Our boat is broken and we have 400nm to get to the boat yard, will we make it? https://www.sailingnandji.com Leaving the safety of the marina, we head out into the busy shipping area of the Malacca Strait. We have sailed and limped Nandji over 1600nm to get this far and now have a measly 400nm left to arrive to Langkawi and the ship yard where we can haul out and fix our beloved Nandji. The Malacca Strait is one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world and has on average a ship entering or exiting its water every 6 minutes. We sail up the tight inshore designated traffic area squeezed between land and the shipping channel. With strong winds, heavy squalls, fishing nets and tons of little fishing boats to avoid and crossing the shipping lane into Kuala Lumper, this final 400nm was eventful you could say! We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have just sailed 2000nm through Indonesia and have arrived to Malaysia to complete major boat work, ready for the next big adventure. We departed Australia 18 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced different cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! This time last week the SailGP Australia team was enjoying the celebrations of their victory in the inaugural event on Sydney Harbour. With the series roadshow packed up and heading for San Francisco we look back at the conversation we had with Kyle Langford, wing trimmer aboard SailGP Australia, shortly after he stepped ashore on Day 2. In this video Langford describes some of the technical challenges of trimming the wing on an F50 and the split second coordinated timing required of all of the crew to carry off a foiling gybe and tack. Our second big project on "Cuddles". Originally, we were planning on keeping our marine toilet and just wanted to fix it. I've dealt with marine toilets before and right away decided to replace the hand pump assembly and one of the hoses since there was a leak. After spending money on new pump assembly and new hoses and whole day crawling in some tight spaces, I thought I was done. Week later we ended up with the same leaking issues and at that point we were done with marine toilets, really done!! We researched composting toilets a few months earlier and didn't want to spend the money on it but after dealing with all of existing toilet issues, we decided to pull the trigger and get Airhead composting toilet. In this video, you will see our struggle with our marine toilet and eventually taking it out and installing new Airhead composting toilet. We also ended up changing venting location for our composting toilet after a month with Airhead. With our new composting toilet, there is no more smell, no more pump outs, no more random leaks. We've been patiently (and often times impatiently) waiting for the perfect weather window to embark on our very first Gulf Stream crossing. We left from Key Biscayne, FL before dawn and set out on a beautiful day of sailing to our next destination of Bimini, Bahamas. While the wind was light the seas were calm and the sun was shining, treating us to a great crossing. In this Episode; We have lost a lot of electrical equipment like Krista's computer, 3 video cameras, multiple accessory batteries, etc... due to a poor AC DC Inverter onboard SA3. The 120 Volt house current generated by our old inverter has been frying out just about anything plugged into a 120 Volt outlet. Finding a new and reliable inverter was difficult but in the end we found one to perfectly fit our needs. I'm sharing what we had and what we have now on Saltair3 with advice on what works for us.
