What is life aboard a sailboat in a liveaboard marina really like? We've been enjoying the perks of liveaboard marina life in Marina di Ragusa in Sicily. It's taken us a while to get to know the boat inside out and do some much needed repairs. We survived our first storm (and were grateful we weren't out at sea-yet!) We threw a pontoon party for Hot Chocolate (but got too drunk to film any of it-sorry about that!) and Adam had his first experience out on the water.

Inside the Starship This is a follow up to our EXTERIOR TOUR (https://youtu.be/lfh_AmYKZLs). In this video we take you inside the Starship Friendship! From just a year ago to today our lives have changed dramatically. After selling all the material things we had worked so hard for, we bought our catamaran and set sail to see the world. So far, we’ve covered thousands of miles, learned to sail, seen things from a special perspective, and enjoyed living in our ocean home. We hope you will enjoy our interior tour. Don’t forget to watch the exterior tour too! https://youtu.be/lfh_AmYKZLs Welcome aboard the Starship! Buying the Starship was the smartest move we made in this process. There are new boats and old boats and the time between to make adventure happen is precious. We wanted to set sail right away… and we needed to have a parachute (just in case all our dreams were really just wishes). Turns out, we love this life, just like we knew we would, and we love our boat too.  We have lived aboard our boat for almost a year. Life is much different today that it was back then. At the beginning of our journey, we had some tough choices to make about our boat/home purchase. Originally, we were looking at blue water monohulls, but the boats in our price range needed surveys and survey reports suggested a lot of work and time on the hard. In the end, we decided to buy a Lagoon Catamaran. We didn't know each other very well and we had limited sailing experience. It seemed wise to buy a manageable and popular boat that would be easy to learn on and (just in case) in demand if we decided to sell. It turns out that the Starship is awesome and we love her. In this episode the saga of swapping mainsails in the middle of the Atlantic draws to a close. Let's get this sail up & go home! I wrestle with some tricky final steps to complete what amounts to a 20hr job to do the job and reflect on the fact that for every hour of the rest of the voyage my efforts will gain me precious miles and bring me home even quicker. Who is the Mariner? My name is Chris Stanmore-Major better known as CSM. I have over 300,000Nm experience in racing, cruising & expedition sailing and have raced twice around the world. I sailed solo around the world in the Velux 5 Oceans Race in 2011 (in Falcon's sister ship) becoming the 182nd person ever to circumnavigate alone. Early in the morning we lift our anchor to see one of the tourist highlights of Grenada before the hotspot is overrun: The Underwater sculpture park. Afterwards we will make our way to the capital St. George's and plan a trip over the island and into the rainforest for the next day. When we hauled our sailboat out of the water we discovered that the prop shaft had been bent and broken during the hurricane. Finding a forge who could make us a new one was quite that challenge. This week we are tackling the replacement of our broken prop strut while the kids are sanding the hull. The processes is labor intensive to make sure everything is aligned so the prop shaft won't vibrate or wear unevenly. We are a family preparing to sail around the world in our electric sailboat. I explored the Canadian Maritimes (and deserts and backroads all over the continent) on a 2002 Kawasaki KL250 Super Sherpa dual sport bike, and also rode my 1999 Yamaha V-Star XVS1100 cruiser with a Champion Escort sidecar across my home country twice. From land to water travels: I currently live and work on a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 catamaran. - What are your plans with the boat? I will fix it up, run it on nothing but green electric power, and sail off into the sunset. Stay tuned for the growing build and the adventures to come! - How do you find all these cool places we see in the videos? To gain access to my complete research and the world traveller’s map I curate during my explorations off the beaten path, you need to hit me up on Patreon. Here are a few websites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/, https://www.campendium.com/, http://www.atlasobscura.com/, https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - How do you afford your lifestyle? I live and travel economical by using free camping and mooring, cooking my own meals, thoroughly researching products and how-to’s online, practicing a DIY approach, and being as efficient as possible with my resources. I've struggled financially for most of my life, and although I'm blessed with helpful friends and family as well as being able-bodied, white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to pursue your passion. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

It was a truly memorable day even before the start of the second day of the Oyster Antigua Sailing Regatta on Tuesday 9th April 2019. Sponsored very appropriately by Dolphin Sails, a cetacean stole the limelight at the start of the show! The Oyster fleet left the safe confines of Nelson's Dockyard to the starting area off Rendezvous Bay to be advised by the race committee that a whale had been spotted in the vicinity. The Oyster fleet were advised to keep a watchful eye, and numerous members of the Oyster family gazed in amazement as the junior humpback whale, seemingly extremely at home, lobtailed its presence! The humpback was most definitely On-Course-Side for the start of Class 3, and inquisitively followed the Oyster Yachts to the first top mark. The second race of the regatta was a passage race to Jolly Harbour of approximately 20 nautical-miles. After a short beat, the Oyster fleet cracked sheets to turn downwind for a three-hour festival of superb sailing. With brisk warm trade winds, slightly south of east, the course was almost dead downwind to a mark of Cades Reef. The fleet continued to the West Coast of Antigua, where clouds emanating from the rainforest, and a new breeze bending around the top of the island, conspired to push the wind forward. By the time Sandy Island came into view, the fleet where closed hauled. A reach to the finish off the stunning Five Islands Harbour, ensured that during the passage race the Oyster Yachts had encountered every point of sail. The Oyster Yachts were a magnificent sight under spinnakers but the humpback whale was the talk of the town after racing. The Oyster fleet was in its element for the third race of the Oyster Antigua Regatta on Thursday 11 April 2019, sponsored by Raymarine. With 20 knots of breeze from the south of east, peaking in the gusts at close to 30 knots, the early part of the race was a full-on beat into two-metre waves. The Oyster fleet was fully powered up, with white water hissing past the rail, sunshine sparkling in the spray, and close to 30 degrees of air temperature. The wind strength eased in the latter part of the race, with the teams finding the best breeze improving their overall performance. The third race of the regatta was a passage race starting from outside Five Islands Harbour to a finish at Rendezvous Bay. Race Officer Ben Mobley and Alan Brook set a 13.5 mile course for Class 3, with a top mark off Falmouth Harbour, and a short downwind leg to finish off Rendezvous Bay. Classes 1 & 2 raced had a 19.5 mile course which included, shortly after the start, an additional six nautical mile leward-windward section. With 20 knots of breeze from the south of east peaking in gusts at close to 30 knots, the Oyster fleet was fully powered up for Race Day 3 of the 2019 Oyster Antigua Regatta, sponsored by Raymarine. With white water hissing past the rail, experience the live action aboard Oyster 625 Irish Blessing during the passage race from Five Islands Harbour to Rendezvous Bay.
