In this episode we are preparing to go and pick up the boat which was a bit of a mission. Not only did we need to buy a lot of stuff for the boat and also for chartering the boat out, but we also needed to get ourselves certified to actually legally be able to pick up the boat and sail her home. Despite all our planning, travelling and a canceled course gave us a bit of a scare just a week before leaving Stockholm.

Sailing as Wild Rose she won the 1993 Sydney Hobart on corrected time and was the last yacht to win the Tattersalls Trophy under the old IOR handicap system. The cruising life is always a good one, but there are some days you can't believe just HOW PERFECT your life is. We pick up from last week where we had just arrived at Koh Rang Yi. The anchorages are secluded places of beauty (after 4 pm) and the water has this hue that is just to die for. It's a national park with an entrance fee for every person and boat that comes in, but this helps it from getting too crowded, keeps anyone from fishing these waters and also lets the guards patrol in their tenders to make sure everyone is following the rules to keep this an untouched paradise. The snorkeling here is some of the best we've seen in the world...with healthy coral and millions of little fish swimming around us. We enjoy a few days in the water and roaming the beach, but then it's time to start heading back to the big island of Koh Chang. We can't believe it, but our time on the charter is nearing its end! WE|sail to Antigua & Barbuda. Two islands, one paradise. Our sail in was a pleasant journey from the north end of Guadeloupe. We were quickly amazed by the incredible blue waters and white sandy beaches of the island. Antigua became an immediate favorite to us. It's perhaps not the best idea to take two ladies on a sailing passage that turns into a tough upwind bash. Especially when it's the first time one of them has ever sailed overnight! Our friend Sara had a flight to catch on the island of Lombok so we had watched the weather carefully looking for nice, easy sailing conditions. We thought we'd found a great window and set off on a two night sail, only for the wind to accelerate between the islands and come straight on the nose. Sara was a good sport, but everyone on board was uncomfortable as we bashed through the waves. Starry Horizon held up well and got us into Lombok without any issues, though I think Sara was super happy to see dry land! Once we said goodbye to Sara, we attended the opening of a kindergarten school that had been built by cruisers. This was a project spearheaded by our friends in an effort to help the local community recover from a 7.0 earthquake that had absolutely devastated the island. It was a very emotional day and we were so proud to see the cruising community do what they could to help people who had lost so much. This boat we check out is an Irwin 52, a very luxurious sailing yacht in it's heyday, and some still are kept in amazing condition. One of these boats in good shape typically sells for $200,000 to $300,000. This one, however is a gutted wreck. Realistically it could take 10 years and $500,000 to bring this boat back to it's former glory. Is it worth it? Probably not. We came back to this boat after 1.5 years partly due to the amount of people who watched and were interested in the original Irwin video, vlog #31, as well as our own curiosity, We thought it would be interesting to see how our opinions of this boat changed over the last 1.5 years. Wir sind beinahe ohne Segelerfahrung auf diese Reise aufgebrochen. Das erste mal ablegen mit der Eira, war am Tag, an dem die Reise begonnen hat. Bislang haben wir die Biskaya überquert, schwere Situationen in Spanien und Portugal gemeistert, den Atlantik in 22 Tagen überquert und wir haben es geschafft unseren Motor auf Guadeloupe zu reparieren. Jetzt geht unser Weg weiter richtung Westen. Die nächsten 2 1/2 Jahre werden wir nutzen um den Pazifik zu durchqueren, den indonesischen Raum zu erkunden und letztendlich nach der Umrundung des Kap der guten Hoffnungen wieder Fuß auf europäisches Land zu setzen.
