In this episode of our cruising life we show you how we upgrade Vela Nautica to get her fit for the circumnavigation. As soon as you leave European or US costal waters the charts of the wide oceans are not that precise anymore. Many charts are from the old days of the explorer and others don´t go along with modern GPS. In these cases you don´t feel confident to pass through potentially hazardous waterways. Here helps the forward scan sonar to give us confidence. This is only a partial video and a vlog from us. Our JOURNEY AROUND THE GLOBE will start very soon! Delicious, Simple Pasta Salad and Vegetables Sweetly marinated with Balsamic and Garlic! Perfect for a Barbecue or Party, this pasta will not spoil if left out too long! Recipe Link: https://www.chrisdoeswhat.com/balsamic-pasta-salad-with-peppers-and-garlic Pasta salad is always a great side to serve, especially for cookouts and Family Gatherings! The longer this Pasta Salad marinates, the more flavor! We wanted to make this Salad as easy as possible but with better ingredients and more flavor! We chose to use Bell Peppers and Onions because they hold up after marinating and still have that fresh vegetable crunch! We got a slip at Old Bahama Bay and were relieved to have a gentle breeze blowing while in the marina to help cool us down. While at the fuel dock we experienced some frustration when the ignition switch wouldn't start the engine. If you have been following our story you will remember that this isn't the first time we have had to deal with this problem. Luckily it wasn't too difficult for us to bypass and we were able to move out of the way of other cruisers wanting to use the fuel dock. Here is a link to the video where we fixed the switch the first time: ~https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_50jnDQV4iA&t=2s Something we had both looking forward to experiencing while on our adventure was to ride bikes around the islands. With this being our last destination in The Bahamas, we were sure we wouldn't ever get the chance, but when asking the lobbyist for walking directions to the local grocery store we were told we could ride the marina's bikes there for free! We were so excited! We knew that Hurricane Matthew had hit West End about 7 months earlier and had heard stories of how devastating the destruction had been for many people within its path, but now seeing some of the damage in person was amazing for us. We can't imagine how it must have felt to be in such a storm. It was sad to see torn up homes trying not to fall apart, and skeletons of building fighting to stand up. If there's one thing we have learned while visiting The Bahama's is that the people here are Stronger than the Storm! They have come a long way to rebuild their homes and have done a fine job at getting back up on their feet! _____________________________________________________ MUSIC USED: "Highlights" by: Nicolai Heidlas "Motivating Force" by: Tortex "Soft Acoustic Guitar" by: HookSounds Originals LINK: ~https://www.hooksounds.com/royalty-free-music/highlights/644918/ ~https://www.hooksounds.com/royalty-free-music/motivating-force/523488/ ~https://www.hooksounds.com/royalty-free-music/soft-acoustic-guitar/304674/ ******************************************************** Affiliate links have been added to this description to help our viewers find products shown in our videos. “As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.” Thank you. ********************************************************

PSA: This video contains high wind and images of an old boat!!! :D Hope you all can take the joke for what it is, we know its windy, we were there, my hair was there... my hair was destroyed... at some point in 40+knot winds it doesn't matter how you shield the camera (at least what we have) its gonna have wind noise! So we are sorry, but it was either film and show you all and have wind noise, or just skip ahead a month until the winds died down... In this episode of Sailing Nandji, its time to run the hours up on our new engine fang as we sea trial our new motor. After installing our new engine we soon realised that we would be in need of an autopilot as we plan to do a bit of motoring around Indonesia chasing waves. We break the bank and purchase a CPT Autopilot which is stand alone easy to install unit. Yosh installs the autopilot and we sea trial the new autopilot. We may be out of the boatyard but we still have crap every where and lots of little tedious jobs to finalise. Each day whilst we wait for our good camera to be fixed and returned to us, we work 8 hours on the boat anchored somewhere nice away from people and then in the afternoon light, go exploring around the islands. Work hard, Play hard! It is good to be back in a bikini and sailing Langkawi finally. Thank you to everyone who has watched our videos and contributed to our new engine. It is all because of you legends we have been able to install this brand new engine and re-power Nandji. With all this boat work being complete our vessel is becoming indestructible as we get her ready for our next big trip across the Indian Ocean. With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia and finally arrived to the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the next big adventure. The work is now complete so look out Thailand and Indonesia, here we come! We departed Australia in July 2017 and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! We've now entered into the 40 degree latitudes. But wait? Am I thinking of the wrong ocean with all the terrible weather I'm expecting? Our passage from Terceira to Ireland is well underway now, but conditions have picked up just enough that we're not feeling so hot. Our departure from the Azores was kind to us, but by day two the seas are growing and we're feeling a little queasy in our stomach. Not much else to do but sit around and wait for it to pass. We expect heavier conditions to come, although on Day 3, things aren't as bad as they're supposed to be. The winds and waves have calmed down a little...but now we have a new problem of the oven not wanting to cook our dinner! Oh well, at least it's only a 10 day passage instead of 25! 44 years after the movie ‘Jaws’ we still have in our mind horrifying pictures of sharp teeth. Bloodthirsty killer, death machine… The ‘Jaws’ made really bad reputation for this unique super predator, for the great white shark. Are they really dangerous? How big is your chance to be attacted by a great white shark? What’s their role in the enviroment? Craig Ferreira, great white shark expert, researches sharks behavior since many years. “The chance to be killed by a great white shark is less then the chance to be killed in your car while you’re driving to go surfing.” “While sharks kill an average of 10-20 humans a year, humans kill 100 million sharks each year,” he says. These ultimate ocean predator are intelligent and highly inquisitive creatures. They have personalities with more depth and nuance and are not just mindless eating machines. And they are not wasteful like humans. If they are not hungry they are hunting. The great white shark is everything – the mystery, the danger, the beauty and death.
