We sail from the BVI's to the USVi's. Before leaving the BVI's we stop at Jost Van Dyke and check out White Bay Beach and swim ashore to get a taste of where the Painkiller, a Caribbean Cocktail Classic was invented at Soggy Dollar Bar. WE set off to cross the water boarders to the USVI, arriving at St. Johns Island, where our friends from Colorado come meet and show us around. CREW: Er ist nicht wie eine elektrische Winsch. Du behältst für alles das Gefühl. Es gibt verschiedene Betriebsmodi... auch einen für Handbetrieb, den du jederzeit nutzen kannst! So kannst du den letzten Feintrimm selbst übernehmen. Präziser geht es einfach nicht. SKIPPER: Das klingt ja schon ziemlich praktisch... CREW: Außerdem sind mit elektrischen Winschen sehr schnell deine Batterien leer. Mit dem Ewincher ist der Verbrauch minimal! SKIPPER: Ok jetzt bin ich dran, lass‘ mich mal testen! SKIPPER: Oh, man muss die Kurbel zurückhalten! CREW: Ja, der Ewincher darf sich nicht bewegen, wenn du den elektrischen Betrieb nutzen willst. Wenn du eine normale Kurbel benutzt, wirst du feststellen, dass es eine Position gibt, in der du viel Kraft aufwenden kannst. Das ist der grüne Bereich. Wenn du im roten Bereich kurbelst, kann es schnell ziemlich schwer und anstrengend werden... Mit dem Ewincher bleibst du im grünen Bereich, sodass er sehr einfach festzuhalten ist. Und der Motor erledigt den Rest! Deswegen hat der Ewincher die Form einer Kurbel. Die Ergonomie ist perfekt. SKIPPER: Sowas hab‘ ich schon, weißt du... CREW: Das ist doch nicht das Gleiche! CREW: Sie haben nicht dasselbe Design. Lass‘ mich erklären, warum dieser unterschied so wichtig ist: Bei allen Kurbeln für elektrische Winschen musst du immer gegen die Leistung anhalten. Mit dieser hier befindet sich dein Körper in einer ungünstigen Position, um die Belastung auszugleichen. Wenn die Kurbel nur noch schwer zu halten ist, kannst du dich verletzen. Mit dem Ewincher bist du immer in der perfekten Position. Du kannst wichtige Belastungen mit minimaler Anstrengung kompensieren. SKIPPER: Der ist so leicht! CREW: Leicht zu handhaben, gell? Hast du die Knöpfe direkt unter deinen Fingern gesehen? SKIPPER: Ich muss zugeben, das ist wirklich sehr praktisch. CREW: Du kannst sogar die Ewincher App runterladen. 2017 ROBERTSON AND CAINE LEOPARD 45 – Smile Maker Builder's Remarks: We are pleased to announce that the Leopard 45 has been awarded 2017 Boat of the Year by Cruising World Magazine. This marks the 7th Cruising World Boat of the Year win by Leopard. This year’s award was in the newly created Best Charter Catamaran category proving that South African Builders, Robertson and Caine, have perfected the art of not only creating the perfect private owner’s boat but one that is perfectly suited for the charter industry as well. The judging was done by a team of three independent industry experts, who conducted thorough dockside inspections and then carried out sea trials. The Leopard 45 proved to be the leader of the pack in all areas of the judging. What stood out in particular was her performance and innovation. Additionally, the judges were impressed by the amount of space provided by the forward cockpit, which is connected to the saloon through a translucent door. Another area of interest to the judges was the main saloon, which hosts a forward facing galley and dinette. The judges also noted that visibility through the Leopard 45 is excellent. Broker's Remarks: "Smile Maker" is a simply sensational Leopard 45 launched in 2017. We are so excited to feature the first ex-charter Leopard 45 to market, and Smile Maker lives up to her name. Nicely equipped with 9kw Genset, Cruisair A/C, Raymarine Instruments, Battery Charger. This yacht has low engines and generator hours, and the hull is in great condition. We expect this yacht to sell very quickly. Availability: Leaves fleet July 2021, available to be sold back into the charter fleet. Please inquire for details.

It might just have been another exercise, but it was a surprise to all but our sneaky captain. Good to know we can rescue a fender buoy pretty easily. Once that chore was done, we settled into a nice four hour sail from Antigua to Barbuda. Arriving later in the afternoon we opted for a safe and simple anchorage. It was a good spot for many reasons; the seaplanes, beach horses, kiteboarding, and epic sunsets were spectacular. In our next episode we explore the town and then the Frigate rookery. Correct amount of batten tension is very important for slalom sail performance. Over or under tensioning the batten is bad, you need to look for a balance that will affect in clean sail surface and progressive leech twist. Here is a couple of tips from Gabriel Browne.
