Hi guys, no sailing in this episode, but we are on the water at least. This is a quick tour around a small part of Stockholm where we live. If you haven’t tried SUP boarding, give it a go, I (Chris) didn’t really see the point of it at first but turns out it’s a lot of fun, doing some great exercise. Could be the perfect supplement to your cruising boat. This was one of our afterwork paddle board outings, we really try to enjoy the short Swedish summer for as long as it lasts. **NOW SOLD** Saltair is a 2007 Hanse 400e listed exclusively for sale with YOTI on Pittwater. https://www.yoti.com.au/listing/hanse-400e-sailtair Hanse 400’s are one of the world’s most successful 40 footers and are certainly Australia’s most successful and popular Hanse model to date. Around 50 Hanse 400’s were imported by Team Windcraft and the model continues to be very much sort after. The upgraded ‘e’ is for epoxy, giving a stronger, stiffer, lighter and virtually osmosis proof hull. These yachts were so successful simply due to their ease of handling, solid construction, excellent performance, plus a blend of modern and classic good looks all in a magic 40 foot package. Saltair is the three cabin layout. The impressive owners cabin sits forward and there are two good sized double aft cabins. The head and shower includes a solid shower screen separating the space. The galley simply works with the refrigeration being top and side loading plus additional bench space folding over the stove when needed. The saloon table lowers to become additional accommodation and opposite we find the combination nav station / control station and coffee table with two swivelling seats. Being a Hanse, she boasts a self-tacking headsail plus in Saltair’s case genoa tracks have been factory fitted and the inventory includes an overlapping genoa with pole to satisfy any club racing desires. The swept back ‘L’ shaped keel is lead and the keel bolts and backing plates are stainless steel and massive. The standing rigging has just been replaced in mid-2019 along with a brand new B&G instrumentation. With Turkey's incursion into Northern Syria, the Turkish/Syrian border is headline news at the moment for all the wrong reasons, but when we visited in July 2019, it was relatively peaceful and safe. We sincerely hope the recent conflict finds a speedy and peaceful outcome because it is a fantastic part of the world with great people - an internationally important cultural and historical area that deserves protection and peace. Known as 'Zero Point in Time' Göbekli Tepe' is the oldest known monument in the world and changes everything we thought we knew about the evolution of civilisation. Only recently unearthed and shrouded in mystery this 'Temple' site has archaeologists baffled. The visitor centre opened only this year but with the conflict in Syria still raging, there were very few western visitors here - in fact we almost had the place to ourselves! We found the Turks friendly, warm and welcoming and enjoyed genuine Turkish hospitality unburdened by the usual trappings associated with western tourist hotspot. The 24 hour bus journey took us form Bodrum to Sanliurfa, one of Turkey's great pilgrimage cities and we dove headlong into Turkish culture and heritage by checking out the local Bazaar, the Sacred Fish Ponds (Gölbasi area) and the new museum complex. It was definitely one of the highlights of our adventures so far that will be difficult to top! DAYS AT SEA leading to a CRACK IN OUR BOAT | 81 | Beau and Brandy Sailing This is a 2 Part Vlog recounting our sail from Puerto Rico to Grenada. We've got our new sail but we still have to do a little prep work before we can head south to Grenada in order to avoid hurricane season. We pull out of out of the anchorage by Marina Pescedaria, and head a little south for clearer water to clean the hull, because basically we are growing a coral reef from sitting in the bay for 8 weeks. Brandy shows you our favorite meals to prep for long crossings. This sail will be our longest yet. 474 NM journey South to our ultimate destination, Grenada. If we average 6 knots (wouldn't that be nice!) we should get to our hurricane hole in 4 days. We set off sail and show how we survive day to day while away at sea for almost a week. After sailing for 5 days, perfect wind and waves, allowing us to balance our boat most of the sail… we come across a HUGE problem. We find a crack in the bow. Theres a few major stops in Indonesia. First is Raja Ampat. Did that. Banda and the Spice Islands would have been next. Couldn’t get there due to weather but Komodo national park was next. There is an entire park surrounding the island that has the dragons. And that includes some pretty awesome diving. To be perfectly honest, the dragons partially domesticated at this point. They hang out at the park rangers hut. Actually right next to the kitchen. It smells good and perhaps they get some scraps? That said, they are still magnificent beasts that do still take down massive water buffalo, deer and other wildlife. Their bite is highly toxic due to bacteria in their saliva. Apparently a tourist was bitten just last year. Oh, and that forked stick the guide is holding is to control them if they get too aggressive! BE BRAVE. Heute kann man die biozide Wirkung von Kupfer als Antifouling auf elegantere Weise nutzen. Und das hat in Form von CopperCoat für uns ausschließlich Vorteile. Welche das sind, erfährst Du im Video. Das alte Antifouling ist schon runter (letztes Video #8) und jetzt wird es Zeit, die neue Beschichtung aufzubringen. Mit CopperCoat haben wir bisher nur gute Erfahrungen gemacht, auch auf unserem ehemaligen kleineren Segelboot, der Marie, die wir verkauft haben. Das Aufbringen ist allerdings schon 5 Jahre her und seitdem musste der Rumpf nur mal gereinigt werden, als sie sowieso für die Einwinterung an Land gestellt wurde. Unsere 7seas soll ja dauerhaft im Wasser bleiben, deshalb haben wir nach einer Möglichkeit gesucht, Osmose vorzubeugen. Es war viel Arbeit, das CopperCoat selbst aufzubringen, allerdings lohnt es sich tatsächlich. Nach Abschluss der Arbeiten wurde die 7seas noch ins Wasser gebracht (endlich) und wir haben den Mast gestellt. Das Video dient nicht komplett als Anleitung für CopperCoat, deckt aber schon viele Infos ab von Vorbereitung bis hin zum Anschleifen.
