Our ship arrived in port late afternoon which means the interior of the Fort/National park was already closed by the time we got there but we did explore what we could and then wandered downtown where we grabbed a snack before getting back on the ship. St Thomas ~ We walked around downtown before we went under water for our diving excursion on the local reef and wreck at Buck Island. We are replacing our standing rigging with a Hybrid Rigging, some of our stays will be changed our for "like for like" stainless steel wire stays and others will be replaced with dyneema. We are going with Synthetic rigging for a few different reasons. The first is cost, the second is the weight saving, and the third reason is because, well, we really want to give it a try! We are keeping our forestay and inner forestay as ss wire because we have furlers on those stays and we won't be able to monitor the dyneema inside. The Caps and Lowers will be changed to Dyneema and the lower section of the inner forestay where it connects to the hull at the water line will be changed to Dyneema. And our prodder is going to be changed to Dyneema as well. We are doing the rigging video in 2 parts. This week we are tackling the two forestays and swapping out the wires and next week in part 2 we are changing out the caps, lowers and everything forwards by the waterline, as well as cutting, splicing, and stretching the dyneema. We sailed in the September 4th beercan race, and had a wonderful crew onboard, any one of which could have run the boat themselves. The result was a relaxing sail and a good result in the race! I think even on corrected time Wildcard would have beat us, but not by a lot: they did a great job of coming from behind and picking the right lanes of pressure on the course. And as always it's fun to see so many sailboats out together having a fun time all going in the same direction together (aka racing).

She has benefited from all the improvements made to the earlier hulls and then customized like no other CL 53. Cetacea is one of the last of its kind since Cheoy Lee moved to making very large motor yachts in 1990. This boat must be seen and compared to other CL 53’s to appreciate the quality and improvements made to this particular late-model hull (perhaps even the last hull!). Very few other comparable boats can match her in performance and comfort. The improvements to this hull make her extremely comfortable, very stable, very good sailing, very good and efficient motoring, very quiet when motoring and/or sailing in all berth areas and entertainment areas. She remains cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter due to her added extensive insulation and soundproofing material.
