An overcast sky did not diminish a great day on the water. Winds started out of the ESE and took a swing to the South throughout the day. The wind speed increased throughout the day from 5 to 10 to 10 to 15 as predicted. We sailed south along the west coast of Southern Door County to Red River County Park and then back. The Bahamas have always felt like paradise to us — endless turquoise water, quiet anchorages, and unforgettable moments as a family. But as we continue island hopping through the Bahamian chain, a big question keeps coming up: With rising cruising and permit fees… is the Bahamas still worth it? In this episode, our family of seven living full-time aboard our sailboat sails from Chub Cay to Shroud Cay, one of our absolute favorite stops in the Exumas. Along the way, we talk honestly about the increased costs of visiting the Bahamas, what cruisers are paying now, and whether the experience still justifies the price for families, budget cruisers, and long-term liveaboards. Once anchored in Shroud Cay, we soak in everything that makes this place so special — drifting through the famous lazy mangrove river, hiking to breathtaking overlooks, and capturing some of the most epic drone footage we’ve ever filmed. The contrast between untouched natural beauty and the realities of cruising costs makes this stop especially thought-provoking. As we spend our last day in Shroud Cay, we begin preparing the boat, the kids, and ourselves for the next leg of our journey as we continue working our way back toward the Windward Passage. Day 1 got off to a tricky start at the Youth Sailing World Championships, with very light winds delaying racing across all fleets. An early AP was posted, giving sailors time to relax on the beach, in the boat parks, and around the food court — sharing stories, meeting new friends, and waiting patiently for the breeze to fill in. By midday, AP over A flags began to appear, and several classes scheduled for later racing were unfortunately cancelled for the day. These included Formula Kite Men and Women, iQFOiL Men and Women, 420 Female, and 29er Female. Despite the challenging conditions, some fleets did make it onto the water. ILCA Men and Women, 420 Men, 29er Men, and Nacra 15 all managed to complete racing. 🎥 Today’s livestream focused on the 29er Men and the Nacra 15, and those fleets delivered some exciting moments. 🔹 29er Men Two races were completed in tough, light-air conditions. •⁠ ⁠Race 1 was won by the German brothers Tizian and Julian Lembeck, claiming the first race victory of the championship. •⁠ ⁠Race 2 went to the Polish duo Szymon Kolka and Bartosz Zmudzinski, the reigning 2025 29er EuroCup champions, who now sit third overall. The Australians Sebastian Cheng and Jacob Marks are currently second overall, with Sebastian — just 13 years old — showing remarkable composure at the helm. Leading the fleet after Day 1 are the Italians Giuseppe Montesano and Enrico Coslovich, whose consistent results give them a narrow one-point lead at the top of the standings. 🔹 Nacra 15 France took the lead in the Nacra 15, with Marius Praud and Emilie Mansouri taking two wins from two races, Followed by the US in second and Belgium in 3rd. --- 🔹 Other Fleets •⁠ ⁠ILCA Men & Women each completed one race.
