🏝️ Sailing to the Real Treasure Island | First Impressions of Samoa [Ep193] If you grew up reading stories of floating islands, daring escapes, and hidden treasures, this episode will feel like stepping straight into a childhood storybook. 📖 Our journey brings us to Samoa — a place some even call the real Treasure Island. After zig-zagging our way across the Pacific, we finally reach these volcanic islands that feel worlds apart from the remote atolls we’ve been visiting. Bigger, more built-up, and rich in culture, Samoa offers a very different kind of adventure. From bustling local life to quiet anchorages, this place surprised us at every turn. In this episode, we share our first impressions of Samoa: the warm welcome, the challenges of arriving by sailboat in a less-traveled corner of the Pacific, and why this island chain feels like the living heart of adventure. If you love sailing life, remote exploration, and real-world treasure islands, this one is for you. - - - - - - - - - - - - - ⏱ Timestamps 00:00 Childhood dreams meet real adventures 🌊 00:49 Arriving in Samoa (aka the real Treasure Island) 04:14 Finding Robert Louis Stevenson (famous author of Treasure Island) 07:14 A piece of Scotland in the heart of Samoa 11:04 Exploring Samoa - hiking to the author's tomb 16:17 A whole new perspective on Samoa 18:32 Swimming in a private freshwater pool - - - - - - - - - - - - - ✅ Subscribe for more true sailing adventures. 💬 Question for you: Do you think Samoa deserves the title of Treasure Island? 👍 Like the video if you love stories that mix adventure and reality. #SailingPacific #Samoa #TreasureIsland #AdventureTravel #SailingLife- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 🙌🏻 Support us 🙌🏻 PATREON: www.patreon.com/redseas TIPJAR: www.tpjr.us/redseas NEW MERCH STORE: www.red-seas.com/shop 💬 Follow us on social media 💬 FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com/realredseas INSTAGRAM: www.instagram.com/realredseas 🎵 Music 🎵 All tracks can be found at Epidemic Sound. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 📖 Our Story 📖 We're Iain and Brioni [The Reds] a couple of redheaded Scots who sold everything we own and moved halfway round the world to buy a boat that we could call home. #58 République Dominicaine 2 : on talonne 3 fois ! Baie Samana : magique, contraste, mer difficile !

Our sailing journey to the Mediterranean takes a turn and slows down as autumn weather catches up with us in northern France. After sailing 1276 nautical miles from Stockholm, we find ourselves stuck in Bologne-sur-Mer for an entire week due to bad weather and limited sailing windows💨 But being delayed doesn’t stop the adventure! While waiting for better conditions, we explore the historic port city of Dunkirk and take a 24-hour trip to beautiful Paris with our friends. 🫶 We have to remind ourselves that this is what it’s all about - not just reaching the destination, but gathering experiences and enjoying the journey along the way. ⚓️ This video is made in collaboration with gearcraftdepot.se – a brand new webshop with everything you need for your boat! 📍 Route: Dunkirk (France) to Bologne-sur-Mer (France) ⛵ Distance sailed: 1276 Nautical Miles 🧑✈️ Crew: Erik, Linn & Nora the dachshund If you're new to our channel, welcome! 🩵 We’re Linn and Erik, a Swedish couple in our late 20s who quit our jobs, rented out our apartment, and set off to sail from Stockholm to the Mediterranean together with our sausage dog. We started the journey in our unique 33 foot sailboat from 1980, which we sold in Kiel, and luckily one week after we bought a new boat, a Bavaria 37, from 2000 more suited for our adventures ahead. 🔔 If you love real-life sailing stories and adventures where we learn as we go, don’t forget to subscribe and join us on the journey! 🎬 Check out our playlists: https://www.youtube.com/@SailAndDoxie/playlists 📱 Follow us on Instagram for more updates: / sailanddoxie #sailing #sailinglife #sailboat #adventure #boatlife #lifestyle #sailors

Getting on hands and knees, climbing the pole, poetry, CQR anchor, fish chasing dolphin, and dancing. It’s time for sprucing up Isabella. All hands on deck as Karen gets on her hands and knees to wash the deck clean. The wind generator pole is made of 316 stainless steel and still managed to attract a bit of rust. Rubbing and polishing the pole reminded us of the poem, Sail Away With Me by Laney Mills and we share a few stanzas with y’all. Steve climbs the pole to reach the last hard spots as Karen enjoys watching from behind. Isabella has two anchors, a 121 pound Rocna and a 66 pound CQR. We use the Rocna as the main anchor. The CQR has a few rusty spots. Rather than re-galvanizing it, Steve treated the rust, getting it ready to be painted. A surprise appearance of a dolphin was seen chasing a fish. And of course, we danced. Huge hugs and kisses to our subscribers! Love y’all and look forward to your comments. If you haven’t already subscribed, come on aboard and hit that subscribe button. After the most incredible 5 months of summer and into the winter months, it was time to have one last sail for the year! We needed to sail from Nydri to Preveza, which would normally only take a couple of hours. However, with the Lefkada opening bridge closed, we had to take the long way around the island! We were more than happy to take our time, stopping in Meganisi, Vasiliki, and Agios Nikitas along the way. 00:22 - Passing time in Nydri 02:22 - Nydri to Meganisi 04:00 - Exploring Meganisi on Foot 04:57 - Katomeri 06:03 - Sailing Meganisi to Vasiliki 07:54 - Sailing Vasiliki to Agios Nikitas 10:22 - Lunch anchored at Agiod Nikitas 11:23 - Agios Nikitas to Preveza 12:17 - Gaming arcade in Preveza 13:53 - Winterizing Day 1 - Preveza Marina 14:50 - Winterizing Day 2 - Preveza Marina 16:34 - Dinner out in Preveza 17:06 - Leaving marina to be lifted out 18:30 - Argo gets lifted out 22:08 - Winterizing in the boat yard Day 1 23:05 - Winterizing in the boat yard Day 2 23:40 - Dinner out in Preveza 24:08 - Bus to Athens 24:45 - Up next - Dubai and Argentina

#inbarcacondario #crocierainsolitario #barcaavela #navigazionesolitario #vela #diariodibordo #maltempoinmare 🇺🇸🇬🇧 📍 Here we are, finally at the Conero — the southernmost point of my summer sailing trip. This video goes back during this time in my Vlogging videos of my 100 day sailing survival challenge: https://youtu.be/OE439PBAvfY Be sure to watch the full Primitive Cave Build video: https://youtu.be/OE439PBAvfY After building a cozy cave shelter using only a survival shovel. I woke up hungry and needed food, quick! After making my multipurpose spear/trident. Then hardening the tip in the fire. I set out to find a meal. Hidden in the shallows I found a nice size stingray. Keeping my distance, I got overtop, and plunged the spear down through the animal. After a quick fight, the meal was mine. And I went to bed satisfied.

On the surface, these boats are big, bold, and undeniably capable. The EarthRoamer of the sea. But do they also live up to the "motorboat" stereotypes of being loud, smelly, and fuel-guzzling beasts? Join us as we swap assumptions for real-world answers and discover one incredible anchorage after another along the way. Zipping past sea lions, paddling into hidden coves, and hiking through towering forests where few people ever set foot. _________________________ WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of explorers, modern-day documentarians, and cultivators of curiosity. We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us. Things We're Most Curious About... GETTING OFF-GRID Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. So self-reliance and sustainable living are a must. We've learned heaps about renewable energy, managing waste, creating safe drinking water and foraging for food. We carefully manage our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so. TALKING TO STRANGERS People are busy (even on remote islands) and travelers are a dime a dozen. It takes time to talk to strangers, and even more time to have a real connection. Going the extra mile to get to know someone is a commitment. Which is why these are our most treasured experiences. Setting off into the world with curiosity as our guide and nature as our compass. We talk to strangers and accept hospitality without fear or reservations. Both giving and receiving. ALTERNATIVE LIVING These are people who are doing things differently. Forgoing the mainstream, seeking freedom and living on the margins. Creative, unique and inspiring people who challenge our ideas of home and community. But this wasn’t always our life. In 2020, we found Yabá abandoned, sinking, and on the verge of being lost forever. We had no experience in boatbuilding, only a wild dream and the determination to make it happen. We worked relentlessly, learning from the best local shipwrights and pouring everything we had into this rebuild. It took four years of sweat, setbacks, and unwavering commitment, but today, Yabá is more than just a boat, she’s our home, our biggest adventure, and the proof that crazy dreams *can* come true. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). On the season 4 we sailed for 2 years (exploring the Brazilian coast and part of the Caribbean), we sold our boat and we moved to Europe. The last season we are starting to build a new aluminum 43ft sailboat and a new life. We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. We hike the beautiful Padar Mountain for sunrise and witness some of the most stunning scenery yet aboard our Leopard 45 sailing catamaran. We are a suburban blended family that has raised our 3 older children and now want to travel the world. After planning and saving for the past 6 years, we are now embracing our dream of sailing around the world on our Leopard 45 sailing catamaran. Follow our journey as we Circumnavigate the Globe in 3-4 years on a budget of $4,800/month (food, communication, fuel, insurance, transportation, mooring/marina & fun). We left the USA in October 2023 and plan to visit 26 countries on 5 different continents all while worldschooling a budding teen in our off grid tiny house. 🏆 Looking for boating spreadsheets, inside info or wanna help keep the dream alive?
