Darcy had to go up the mast with the boat rocking to try and fix the problem, but even that didn't go to plan. Nach dem Kranen beginnt für uns ein besonderer Abschnitt: Wir hissen die Segel auf unserem ersten Törn nach dem Refit. Von Arbatax aus fahren wir nach Santa Maria Navarrese – in einen Hafen, der sich für uns sicher anfühlt und an dem wir Freunde haben. Hier bleiben wir erstmal, während Chris in den nächsten Tagen das Auto nach Deutschland bringt. Wir zeigen euch, wie wir das Boot vorbereiten, die Motoren starten und vom Steg ablegen. Beim Auslaufen verabschieden wir uns per Funk vom Hafen, holen die Fender rein und setzen zum ersten Mal unsere neuen Segel. Die Motoren gehen aus – und plötzlich segeln wir. Unsere neuen Segel in voller Fahrt zu sehen, ist ein Moment, auf den wir lange hingearbeitet haben. Es fühlt sich ruhig an, leicht und einfach richtig gut. Am Ende laufen wir in den Hafen von Santa Maria Navarrese ein, funken an und machen fest. ► On the second-hand market for boats under 40 feet, the Lagoon 380 has become the must-have. Admittedly, this bestseller, which saw more than 900 examples built, has aged pretty well and offers remarkable comfort for its size... but for budgets just over €100,000, there are other models to consider, such as the Athena 38 by Fountaine Pajot, which offers two advantages: it is more affordable than the Lagoon and is faster under sail! ► Launched at the La Rochelle boat show in September 1994, the Athena 38 was positioned between the Tobago 35 and the Venezia 42. All the models in this second generation, designed by Joubert/Nivelt, are characterized by their blunt bows, very rounded shapes on the inside (the miracle that polyester GRP must have been for naval architects long familiar with wood, steel, aluminum, and chined bilges!) and finally the overhanging coachroof cap, which is the one feature that would be retained and still remains today. ► Lightweight and well-canvased, the Athena 38 is lively and fun to sail from the single helm station – positioned on the aft face of the coachroof, on the starboard side. Obviously, the relatively short length and skeg keels reduced do it no favors when close-hauled in bigger seas, but in all other conditions, this little catamaran will surprise more than one helmsman with its performance - which can be boosted by decent sails and the installation of folding propellers. ► The model Graham presents to us is from 2001 and is a three-cabin version - the entire starboard hull is dedicated to the owner. The nacelle offers a rounded saloon that can easily accommodate six people, a chart table/desk, and a U-shaped galley. Logically, there is only one bathroom per hull. On the starboard side, Graham has a fully equipped workshop. Endlich geht es weiter. Von Guatemala wollen wir zu den Bay Islands segeln, die zu Honduras gehören. Doch dazu müssen wir erst den Río Dulce verlassen, wo wir die Hurrikan-Saison verbracht haben. Zwischen dem Fluss und dem offenen Meer liegt aber noch ein Hindernis - eine Sandbank, die wir nur bei Hochwasser gerade so passieren können. Und das auch nur, weil die Dilly-Dally einen geringen Tiefgang hat. Timing spielt also eine wichtige Rolle. Nach allerlei Pleiten, Pech und Pannen im alten Jahr, hoffen wir nun auf einen guten Start ins neue. Doch ausgerechnet an dem Tag, an dem wir Guatemala frühmorgens verlassen wollen, ist der Fluss wie in Watte gepackt.

► Sur le marché de l’occasion, chez les moins de 40 pieds, le Lagoon 380 est devenu un incontournable. Certes, ce best-seller diffusé à plus de 900 exemplaires a plutôt bien vieilli et offre un confort remarquable pour sa taille… mais dans les budgets qui dépassent à peine les 100 000 €, on peut compter sur d’autres modèles, à l’image de l’Athena 38 qui offre deux avantages : il est plus accessible encore et plus rapide en navigation ! ► Lancé au Grand Pavois en septembre 1994, l’Athena 38 se positionne entre le Tobago 35 et le Venezia 42 ; tous les modèle de cette deuxième génération, dessinés par Joubert/Nivelt se caractérisent par leurs étraves camuses, des formes très arrondies à l’intérieur (le miracle du polyester pour ces architectes qui ont longtemps connu le bois, l’acier, l’aluminium – et les bouchains !) et enfin la casquette de rouf – elle seule sera conservée et reste d’actualité. ► Léger et bien toilé, l’Athena 38 se révèle vif et amusant à barrer depuis le poste unique – installé sur la face arrière du rouf, à tribord. Évidemment, sa longueur réduite et ses ailerons le handicapent un peu au près quand la mer se creuse, mais dans toutes les autres conditions, ce petit catamaran étonnera plus d’un barreur pas ses performances – lesquelles seront boostées par un beau jeu de voile et la mise en place d’hélices repliables. ► Le modèle que nous présente Graham est de 2001, c’est une version trois cabines – toute la coque tribord est dédiée au Propriétaire. La nacelle propose un carré arrondi capable d’accueillir 6 personnes, une table à cartes/bureau et une cuisine en U. On ne compte logiquement qu’un seul cabinet de toilette par coque. A tribord, Graham a aménagé un atelier complet.
