This one feels surreal to say out loud — the new boat is getting very close to completion. In this update, I share where the build is at, what’s left to finish, and why this moment feels different than anything before. After months (and years) of planning, I’ll be flying to Thailand next month to finally step onboard and start the next chapter. I know a lot of you have been following this journey from the beginning, and I can honestly say… I’m just as excited (and nervous) as you are. On était venus chercher deux jours de repos avant la traversée de l’Atlantique… mais dès notre arrivée à Ténérife, rien ne s’est passé comme prévu. 😅 Aucune nouvelle du gars de l’Airbnb, trois bus plus tard, et une nuit perdue en pleine montagne, avec des indications dignes d’une chasse au trésor pour trouver notre chemin. Une fois enfin installés, on a repris notre souffle à Masca. Le silence, la vue spectaculaire sur l’île volcanique, et même La Gomera au loin… Entre une figue de barbarie, une glace au cactus et un resto avec “un seul menu”, on a vraiment réussi à se ressourcer. #sailing OFFSHORE though heavy sea in 40 knot gusts downwind tests crew and sailboat. Skipper keeps going without sleep. New crew member is ill and can't help. Preparations are done and the outcome is thankfully good. How long will the crossing take? Sheenagh rises to the challenge but sadly Elizabeth misses nearly all the action sailing 180 nautical miles from Cagliari, Sardinia to Trapani, Sicily. Elizabeth flew in from Yorkshire, but unfortunately was starting to suffer from a cold and I hadn't appreciated how bad she suffers from sea sickness! Although Sheenagh was so apprehensive about the OFFSHORE passage, she looked after us well and despite being ill a couple of times while changing down below to go on/off watch, she battled on and checked I was OK during my watch. My passage plan was based on an average speed over the ground of 5 knots, which was achieved, but with nearly 14 hours motor sailing using about 21 litres of diesel. During the 34 hours of piloting and sailing I managed to get about 4hrs sleep and Sheenagh just a few more. With relatively inexperienced crew for offshore sailing, the main sail came down in the high winds, favouring the furling headsail for safety. We had three people to share the watch, but only two were fit. The autohelm struggled to keep the boat in the right direction due to a big swell astern and the boat occasionally surfed down waves, skewing to port or starboard, so skipper had to stay on the helm until the wind abated. Am 18.09.25 starteten wir vom Kap Sounion mit über 30 kn Wind Richtung Ägina. Wir hofften im Verlauf auf weniger Wind und kleiner werdende Wellen, aber erst kurz vor Ägina beruhigte sich die See. Ich war von der stürmischen Nacht total übermüdet und dem vielen Wind und den kleinen aber hohen Wellen echt überfordert. Ich war Seekrank und übergab mich dann tatsächlich auch das erste Mal auf unserem Schiff ... In Ägina angekommen war dann alles wieder gut. Wir blieben dann auch direkt in dem kleinen Hafen Perdika eine Woche, weil es nach fast 4 Monaten auch mal schön war zu verweilen. Wir liehen uns wieder einen Roller aus und erkundeten die Insel. Aber vor allem genossen wir das saubere Wasser in der Bucht. Am 26.09.25 ging es dann weiter nach Poros. Unsere letzte Fahrt vor dem Auswassern. Viel Spaß beim Ansehen. #154 Roadtrip Australien-Melbourne ▬ ÜBER DIESEN FILM ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Die erste Etappe unserer Roadtour durch Australien liegt hinter uns. Wir kommen nach Melbourne. Melbourne ist die Hauptstadt des Bundesstaates Victoria in Australien. Sie ist mit etwa 5,2 Millionen Einwohnern nach Sydney knapp die zweitgrößte Stadt Australiens. Die Stadt liegt rund um die Mündung des Yarre-River. Das Wetter in Melbourne ist sehr wechselhaft und wird gerne mit „four seasons in a day“ – also - „Vier Jahreszeiten an einem Tag“ beschrieben. Starke Wetterschwankungen sind vor allem jetzt im Frühjahr bis zum Sommer zu beobachten. Sie äußern sich primär in Form von Stürmen, Regen und schnellen Temperaturstürzen. Hierfür ist der Temperaturunterschied zwischen dem kühlen Südpazifischen Ozean und dem erheblich wärmeren Inland Australiens verantwortlich. Erwärmt sich das Land deutlich schneller als der Südpazifik, steigt die Luft über dem Land auf. Die kältere Luft vom Meer bewegt sich als Südwind, auch Southerly genannt, zum nördlichen Hochdruckgebiet. Hierbei entsteht eine Kaltfront, die den plötzlichen Wetterumschwung verursacht. Manchmal kommt das Leben aber anders als man plant. Im Frühjahr 2020 erhielt ich die Diagnose Morbus Parkinson. Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März 2021geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben passte als in meins. In den folgenden 6 Monaten hat Brigitta aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich über unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Insgesamt sind wir aktuell 4 ½ Jahre unterwegs. Ein Abenteuer folgt dem nächsten und wir genießen jeden Tag aufs Neue. Auf der Suche nach Freiheit und Unabhängigkeit, Abenteuerlust und Naturverbundenheit segeln wir - Brigitta und Hannes - gemeinsam um die Welt. Für diese Weltumsegelung haben wir uns den Katamaran Lagoon 40 MariaNoa gekauft, mit dem wir Anfang März 2021 von der französischen Atlantikküste auf die Barfußroute gestartet sind.
