I Flew Sammy Hagar on Tour… and Got the Nickname “Silvertoes”

Back in 2003 or 2004, I was just 24 years old and had landed my first real job flying private jets out of Van Nuys, California. One of my very first assignments? Flying rock legend Sammy Hagar @SammyHagar and his band around the country on tour! For the next month or two, I got a behind-the-scenes look at life on the road with a rock star. We had all-access backstage passes, hung out with the band, drank margaritas beside the stage, and even spent time partying with Sammy at a beach house. But somewhere along the way, the band's bass player, Mona, gave me a nickname that stuck with me for years: "Silvertoes." And the story of how I got that name is pretty hilarious. I also tell the story of a bottle of Cabo Wabo tequila that Sammy and his band signed for me. I saved it for more than a decade, only to finally drink it at a bachelor party for a wedding that never happened!
