#hiking #hikingadventures #sailingfamily #frenchpolynesia #marquesa #chocolatemaking The benefits of walking with your family. We did an epic hike in the island of Oa Pou in the Marquesas of French Polynesia. It was a long and steep hike which at times was between two very steep slopes and required ropes in several places. We love hiking and despite the initial resistance, we found many benefits for our kids. On the way down we found 'Manfred' a man who has made his home here in the forest where he makes the most delicious chocolate and attempts to live a self sufficient life by powering his home from the energy of the river. #Waverover #Forgeyourownadventure In this video, Wave Rover is underway again from New York (Coney Island Creek) to the Cape May Canal via the New Jersey Coast. Launching our Tiki 38 BareBare took us amazing 15 minutes - DIY - Ep 17 In this episode, we lift BareBare out with a big crane and put her in the sea for the very first time. We also learn how easy it is to row a catamaran with long Viking oars. In this episode, we launch BareBare at the famous maritime museum area in Oslo, Bygdøy. We have been laying just meter away from Roald Amundsen’s «Gjøa», which Amundsen sailed as the first ever through the North-West Passage in 1906. Next lays also «Fram» which the same hero, Roald Amundsen, sailed south to the Antarctic. Amundsen became the first man ever to reach the south pole. And last but not least, our hero Thor Heyerdahl and his Kon-Tiki museum. Before launching BareBare the crane had launched a renaissance replica built in the museum area. We were among so many famous ships... This video contains only the building parts from «Sailing BareBare». DIY – How to build a simple catamaran on a low budget. Design: James Wharram. Type: Tiki 38 flush decked. Built in plywood and epoxy. Sailing vessel Tapatya. Bending, shaping and welding 2mm thick stainless steel plate. No, I'm not sponsored by anyone :) I bend and weld up a 2mm thick stainless fitting for my new tiller in my home workshop. This video demonstrates some of the tools and processes involved in home stainless fabrication. DIY. This is the story of the building of a Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of the build as it progresses and aim to show as much detail as possible of the various aspects of the build. These videos take a lot of time and effort to make, in what is already a time-intensive project. Your support in watching, subscribing and sharing these videos is very much appreciated. Hey Y'all! In this video we are working on some interior renovations in Charleston, SC. The biggest of which is starting the process to rewire the boat. We'll be building a new electrical panel, upgrading to lithium batteries, installing a water maker, a B&G system, and much more. Also in this video we are replacing the refrigerator with a modern unit we were gifted by West Marine...it's awesome. Stay tuned throughout the finishing touches of our renovation series and look forward to Season 1 Sailing with Chasing Grace through the Caribbean! Last week, Steve cut used sail material from Victoria in preparation for going to work on the stack pack style sail covers with Paul, a friend of the channel, who answered Robin's call for help on Facebook. Equipped to sew them with a heavy duty Sailrite machine, Steve and Paul worked together to take Steve's notes and some new materials to make them into something that will keep the Doyle-designed and Doyle-built sails protected from the elements when the boat's not sailing. We also have a look at the coastal flooding during the extreme high tides experienced on the east coast in the last couple of weeks, we move the boat to a new dock where southern winds won't be pushing Arabella into the dock, and Steve does some hand sewing to button details on the sail covers. -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Yelkenli teknenin en önemli unsurlarından biri tabi ki yelken. Yelkeni açmak, trimlemek ve kapatmak fizik ve mantık işidir. Kıssadan hisse bir not düşelim dedik. Böylece hangisi idi? Niye bunu yapıyorduk?, diye tekrar tekrar aklınız karışmasın diye. Sadece fizik ve mantık, hepsi bu!

#catamaransailing #sailingtheworld #chutesducarbet #waterfallsGuadeloupe Les chutes du Carbet is a geological three tier waterfalls formation on the Carbet River in Guadeloupe, in the eastern Caribbean. Its in the middle of the tropical rainforests by the La Soufrière volcano. If there is renewed activity in the volcano, the trails are closed. Approximately 400,000 people visit the falls annually. There is a very small entrance fee. Details on each waterfall follow. We visited the Premier and the Second Waterfalls on our visit. Premier Waterfall 377 ft drop Trail - long and steep with plenty of rock climbing. 7 miles. Plan 6 hours for this hike. Very Difficult. Dangerous. Elevation: 3000 ft. Gain during hike of 1400 ft. Carbet River water source is located 1.2 miles upstream at a 4300 ft elevation. Second Waterfall 360 ft drop Trail - Conveniently accessible on a paver path only 20 minutes from parking. Your view is from an overlook deck. Elevation: 2,200 ft. If you visit, take time to also visit the Little Paradise Hot Spring, located nearby. Third Waterfall 66 ft drop Greatest water volume of any waterfall in Guadeloupe. Trail - only accessible on foot to experienced climbers. Well today the sun decided to join us and it brought lots of people to the lake. I think I spent as much time chatting today as I did actually doing stuff!! So we firstly help a new Lugger onto her mooring. We need to get her off her trailer and into the water and then Lulu is used to tow her to her mooring. After lunch and a quick play with the drone we do a few projects. The bird scarer lines weren't tied on properly as it was dark when I left Lulu last week and they got terribly tangled up so we address that and then test the new jetboil bracket which looks good. Then we go and pick Kevin up and get a quick sail in. Co-piloting Lulu we attempt the 5-4-1 challenege together to see if we can beat my current time. Alas the wind doesn;t allow for that but it was a fun sail anyway. A very lovely sunny, fun, chatty day on the water. Enjoy! 00:00 Intro 01:00 More bird poo!!! 02:15 Meet "Black Magic"! 05:16 Attaching a mooring strop 09:41 Lulu towing another Lugger 10:37 Securing the strop 11:54 Back ashore for lunch! 12:55 Lazy Bala from above 17:57 Testing the new jetboil bracket 19:51 Untangling bird scarer lines 20:52 Picking up Kevin! 22:54 5-4-1 Challenge 🌐 My new website: https://sailingwithdave.com ❤️ Comments are open, ask anything you want in the comments section! 📢 If you enjoyed this video, then please don't forget to share and let people know about the channel 🔔 Click here to "Subscribe" and never miss a video: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZVuUVKKtVxulmgL3WzejjQ?sub_confirmation=1

#sailing #sailboatlifestyle #catamaran That's it, I've had it with my mono hull sailboat, I'm buying a catamaran. As well I'm tired of constantly fixing things on my old boat, I'm getting a new boat that is perfect and has no maintenance. As well it's more roomy for the kind of parties I want to have. Want to keep up to date with our land based videos? Sub to Learning the Lands: https://www.youtube.com/@learningthelands This vessel, in spite of its age, has gone through a complete refit in 2009/2010 and will stand against any comparable vessel built today. The owners have records of everything that has been done to her. Using current materials and technology, she now far exceeds how she was originally built and with constant updating and improvements by her dedicated owners she outshines the competition. New Zealand naval architect Alan Warwick designed the CT-38 for maximum blue water speed for the demanding conditions of the Tasman Sea. Her deck is laid out for racing efficiency. This boat will be at home in any ocean; The Tasman, Caribbean, Chesapeake Bay, you name it and she will take you there in comfort. Red Jacket V is an exceptional vessel and should honestly be considered a Custom Yacht. The owners have gone above and beyond in the maintenance and improvements of this vessel. Due to their love and passion for sailing they poured their hearts and finance into her and it shows. They have enjoyed her but realize it is now time for someone else to carry her on and they have made sure that she needs nothing and will fly thru any survey. This boat is in true sail away condition. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below. #sailing #sailingfamily #dayinthelife #dayinmylife #boatlife #frenchpolynesia A typical day aboard our boat is not really very predictable except that in the morning, we are either schooling or sailing. Schooling however can be done in many different places and some of these places can be so bizarre. Any family sailing with kids will understand that and this is our attempt at trying to share what life can be like aboard our boat. It's time for another boat tour. Interview with the director of Alubat: https://youtu.be/4peUIQAznv4?si=qKTD8CXDDsQxECdK We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Check out our website to know more about it https://www.oddlifecrafting.com/blog We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Episode 043 We've been living aboard our sailboat for almost two years now and Vicki has never done a coastal passage since being aboard. Why? Well...for many personal reasons which we won't share but this spring/summer, Vicki has decided that if we are to go ocean sailing next year, now is the time to step forward and do this. To kick of our coastal sailing, we sail 30 nautical miles up the coast to the beautiful and remote Whangaroa Harbour. It's a long enough sail for Vicki to get a feel of coastal sailing but a short enough sail that we can still anchor somewhere overnight. The conditions are perfect, a south-west wind averaging 15 knots with a 1.5 meter swell. First stop is the Cavalli Islands where we spend the night before making our way to Whangaroa Harbour. We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. Sincere thanks to Charlotte Rockstar Jones for composing and recording Te Tāiko's theme song. After a few years of studying and working hard we decided it was time to make a change. We needed a change that would allow us to spend more time together, give us a better work/life balance, and the freedom to travel. While we still had time on our side, we wanted to use it to live rather than use it to chase money. Learning to sail was the answer. In December 2021 we moved onboard Te Tāiko, a Chico40, and since then we have been so fortunate to explore many of New Zealand’s pest free islands and its beautiful anchorages. With our love of travel and adventure, this lifestyle has enabled us to experience so much more than we could ever have imagined. From new experiences to meeting incredible people along the way, our life has been enriched in so many ways and makes us ever so more appreciative of our environment and the footprint we leave behind. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore. In the meantime, follow along with us as we navigate this new lifestyle whilst sharpening our skills exploring New Zealand waters. #boatlife #boat #travelvlog #digitalnomad #lifestyle #sailing #travel #newzealand #sailingnewzealand

This prompted making an appointment with the local professional rigger, who suggested he do a thorough rig inspection. While the aluminum mast and fittings are thankfully in good shape, he found too many questionable areas on the wire cables themselves and the fittings that were on the ends of them. Stack packs are a type of canvas sail cover for sailboats, offering convenience and efficiency in handling the mainsail. Paired with lazy jacks, these packs consist of a canvas cover that neatly encases the mainsail when lowered and zipped. The key benefits for sailors include quick and easy sail storage, streamlined deployment, and reduced crew effort. With stack packs, there's less of a need for manual flaking or folding; the sail more or less falls into place, simplifying the process for single-handed sailors or smaller crews. The packs also provide protection for the mainsail, shielding it from the elements and UV exposure, ultimately extending the sail's lifespan. Whether a seasoned sailor or a beginner, stack packs enhance the sailing experience by making sail management easier. Episode 042 We continue with our practicing of our man overboard drill. In the last video, we practiced retrieving the dan buoy under sail and engine, together and single-handed as well as our hoving to. In this video, we we practice the recovery phase but not before moving to another beautiful anchorage in the Bay of Islands. Adam had made a 6:1 block and tackle system which is meant to lift our dinghy (tender), Tītī from the water to the deck, but we found it was also helpful in lifting him from the water. As we choose to keep Tāiko our sailboat simple, we have no electric winches on board, so finding ways to make some difficult tasks easier is essential. Let us know what you think and if there is anything you would like to see from us. We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. Sincere thanks to Charlotte Rockstar Jones for composing and recording Te Tāiko's theme song. Please remember to subscribe, like, comment - it helps us out! #boatlife #boat #travelvlog #digitalnomad #lifestyle #sailing #travel

#sailingtheworld #Guadeloupe #Les-saintes Sailing in Guadeloupe, the French butterfly shaped island, must be the best kept secret in the Caribbean. Interestingly, we did not see many Americans here. - it is a missed opportunity! The French island is an absolute joy to explore. And we only covered half of it. We toured the west side of Guadeloupe which is called Basse Terre and is the more mountainous region. We did not visit the central or south areas or the east side (called Grand Terre) which is much flatter and low ground, or Marie Galant. Here is our Itinerary. DeShaies - We stopped here for customs checkin and stayed a couple days. We enjoyed the L’Amer restaurant, the food was great but service was slow. Lots of restaurants and shops here, in the Caribbean dirty buildings style. We toured the botanical garden (https://jardin-botanique.com/). Not much was in bloom when we visited. Pigeon Island - We anchored then at Malendure, and went snorkeling at the Jacque Cousteau Underwater Marine Park. Snorkeling was not great - most of the best coral was deeper so diving would have been better. Malendure did not have a dinghy dock for town either, so we did not stay long. Boullante - Large anchorage with a thermal bath from volcanic steam in one corner! Guadeloupe has 5 hot thermal springs in the Bouillante area - see map. Some are so hot that you can swim in them only when they are cooled by the sea. The most famous are the Bain chaud de Thomas , the sulphurous spring of the village , produced by geothermal energy, the Bain du Curé , the beach of Anse à Sable. But there are many more, like those of the beach of Petite Anse, Bois-Malher or even at Anse du Dépôt. The hot springs were quickly identified and used for their thermal properties by early French settlers.  Although hydrotherapy was not developed in Bouillante, the hot waters still made it possible to create the first geothermal power plant in France . Clean and renewable electricity which produces 10% of Guadeloupe's consumption and intends to grow up to 22%. Basse Terre - This capital city was our next stop. We filled up with diesel at the marina and then anchored by the Riviere de Sans Marina. We stocked up on groceries at the Super U - amazing what you can do with a car! We visited the Cimitiere - not just your ordinary cemetery - here all of the burial spots have mini houses built so you can come and hang out with your loved ones who have passed. It was the perfect spot to explore the rainforest. We rented a car and drove to the Chutes de Carbet - 5 waterfalls by the mouth of the volcano. We hiked and rock climbed to 2 of the falls - an all day event. It was breathtaking, but difficult and dangerous. We have a separate video on that hike you won’t want to miss. Les Saintes -. Made up of nine unspoiled islands, only two are inhabited. Terre de Haut has bistro lined streets, a turquoise water bay, and truly is an island worth visiting. On the main village drag, less than a five-minute walk from the dock, Au Bon Vivre French restaurant with Caribbean flair, was our favorite dinner spot. Our second favorite was actually in a hotel called Le Kanaoa, with it’s own dock and overlooking the bay. Vauban style Fort Napoleon, overlooks the bay of Les Saintes, and is worth exploring - although only open in the mornings. It has been uniquely preserved with a museum as well as cactus gardens throughout the fort. Terre de Bas We anchored at Anse Fidelin which turned out to be one of our favorites - quiet, good snorkeling. Plugging a hole, lights, stripping paint, iguanas, raccoons, beach, bikini, cartwheel and more. We’re continuing our detailing of Isabella down below. Steve installed new lights and moved an old one. We love natural wood and continue to strip paint off the hall wall restoring that look. Lots of DIY lead to some fun at the beach. Karen attempted to do a cartwheel. We saw several different species of wildlife. Did y’all know that when the temperature gets near freezing, iguanas go into a state, cold-stunned, where they start falling out of trees? There’s only one species of raccoon in Florida, Procyon lotor, and it's active in the late afternoon instead of being nocturnal. We love our subscribers and are sending y’all warm and happy thoughts.
