These monel steel tanks came to us by way of a decommissioned boat, and so the three 20-gallon tanks have essentially made a decision for us: 60 gallons of on-board fuel, and a plan to have plastic containers on deck for when we might want or need more for a longer sailing passage, such as an Atlantic crossing. We also take a trip back to Dorchester and MS Fabrication, where Evan works up some custom straps that will hold the monel diesel tanks up into the chocks that Steve has prepared, safe and secure. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a wooden boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve started as an amateur wooden boat builder building a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that classic wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY boatbuilding project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Sailing Indonesia The good the bad and the ugly - Ep 186 About to continue sailing to the west of Indonesia in our floating home, we are ticking off the items on our to do list. To keep our sailing teenagers happy we have rented scooters. This opens up a world for them beyond the sailboat anchorage, giving them the freedom to roam where and when they please, just don't trust that google maps will send you the shortest, easiest or correct route to travel by. However, the kindness of strangers has put us back on track, returned a lost phone and trusted us to return with the correct money for an outstanding bill. Shame about the scam at the service station then. Music Musicbed.com David Mumford - Ball and Chain Thank you for helping keep us afloat and supporting the creative process. I am a computer engineer and develop embedded systems. I have been wanting to work on a DIY project to enable everyone to have a sailboat racing computer. I have started a YouTube series to help everyone that is interested to be able to develop their own sailboat racing computer. Some electronics and programming experience is needed to make this work. However, if you are good with your hands and have worked with hobby electronics you might find these videos helpful. This is a multi-part tutorial showing you how to make a DIY sailing racing computer for under $150. This first video shows you how to setup the integrated development environment. It is assumed that you have some programming experience and understand basic C syntax. I will be providing the source code as we progress through the project. Please leave me any comments and I will try to answer you as soon as possible. I am a computer engineer and develop embedded systems. Fellow boaters - I'm thrilled to share my latest project with you: MaintenanceROS! Seamlessly manage your boat's upkeep – let's embark on this journey together! ***** Upgrading to a new 12v watermaker was essential to our plans for a more energy efficient, off grid sailboat. Our new Schenker Zen100 watermaker will enable us to make water from the power generated from our solar panels and let us stay longer in those remote islands we love to explore. Of course, before we can get to those islands, we have to actually install the new watermaker. The install was fairly straightforward, although we customized the set up just a bit to make life easier for future maintenance. Watch along as we go through all the components, figure out where everything will be installed and mount and plumb everything together! ================ Affiliate Links ================ Out Chasing Stars is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com. IS THIS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL TRADITIONAL VILLAGE IN THE WORLD? Sailing Indonesia - Ep 185 We have made a detour from following Kerry's sailing journey to visit the beautiful yet isolated, remote traditional Mangarei, Flores Village of Wae Rebo, high in the Indonesian jungle far from our sailing catamaran. This trip is not for the faint hearted its a full day of travel so we are leaving our sailboat anchored in the waters off Labuan Bajo to make the long journey, with our sailing teenagers and fellow liveaboards sailing Allusive, to proceed by car, motorbike and on foot to the village in the sky. We were not disappointed. As a special treat on the way home we also visited another village to watch a traditional caci fight. Not only were we the first Australians to visit their village (we didn't point out that we are Kiwi's), Rob got dragged into the fighting. We have some rigging advice from an inspector that could save you a lot of hassle! In this video, Tom shows you ways to ensure your rigging lasts longer and specifically discusses the jib sail pre-feed, how to rig your reefing lines for less chafing, forestay maintenance, headsail tensioning and inspection, and tidying your lines more naturally. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. In this episode we set out for the Canary Islands from Madeira, having beautiful Goldilocks conditions for the first day before being becalmed and having to motor the second day. Arriving at a chill anchorage at Isla Graciosa in the northeast end of the Canaries, we start out by doing a morning walk on a dormant volcano rim near the anchorage. We are invited by new friends to a beach potluck, for which Jeannine prepares some sushi-style rolls. We do some vessel maintenance, cleaning the hull of the boat. Nearby there is a marine protected area that we explore and have a swim with the chill fish. Pretty clear, calm water! Moving on next to Marina Lanzarote at the city of Arrecife then down to the lower end of Lanzarote near Rubicon, we enjoy the chill vibe of the southern beaches and nearby trails. Finally, we explain our water maker setup using the portable Rainman desalination system. Thanks for following! 👩🏻✈️👨🏻✈️ Sosyal Medya📱 İnstagram: eleven11sailing Facebook: eleven11sailing Podcast: Eleven11 Sailing / Götür Beni Denizlere 🎼 Music/Müzik: Music without copyright - Attribution not required. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeqD99MDinbGrnMRkzYdgdxLVKroa9vys https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeqD99MDinbHftguUvrkFSjNkjFL0hCJl https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeqD99MDinbHXtj78EaasYMD6PLReS0Jm https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeqD99MDinbEb5TkeyXqg3Cot2v2w7KEB https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeqD99MDinbEDV7fLjDGvTcwzgYDyaCmn https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeqD99MDinbFZOjbIvU50GNmUy_tgdL1c #denizdeyaşam #eğlence #eğitim #yelkenli #sailing #tekne #sailinglife #boatshow #sailinglife #yaztatili #göcekkoyları #denizifilmleri #yelkenlifilmleri #yelkenli #deniz #mavi #eleven #elevensailing #tekne #eleven11 #sailingeleven #koy #gocek #göcek #solo #solokaptan #hanseyacht #hansetekne #eleven11sailing #bilgi #amatördenizci #solohayat #tuzluhayat #tuzlusu #kadın #kadınkaptan #denizden #denizci #denizcilik #yelkenvideoları #teknedeyiz #turkuaz #açıkdeniz #kişiselblog #sailing #sailingkanalı #koylar #hanse #hanse455 #hanse460 #hanse458 #hanse510 #boat #yelkendünyası #yatdünyası #yatçılık #adb #adbehliyet #kmt #gezi #seyahat #geziyorum #türkiyekoyları #türkiyem #ülkemingüzellikleri #yelkenli_tekne #tatil #ege #akdeniz #tekgövde #monohull #adyk #amatördenizciyiz #flok #anayelken #fullarma #selftacking #otomatiktramola #tramola #kavança #alestayelken #tekbaşıma #tuzluhayat #deniztutkusu #hobi #yelkenhobisi #deniz #denizci #denizcilik #denizler #denizden #yelken #seyir #mavitur #seyirdefteri #karadeniz #bartın #bartin #ırmak #çay #gezi #nehir #elektrik #elektrikşoku #şokyaşadık #ölüm #tehlike #şok #körseyir #fırtına #final #dalga #dalgalar
In this video, we go over how Santa might want to follow our lead and upgrade his sleigh to a hybrid reindeer/diesel. In our case, we went with hybrid electric/diesel. Specifically, we go over what fuel tanks options are out there, and all the pros and cons. That way, we get the right tank for our Performance Cruising Catamaran that we are about to build to go sailing around the planet on a double circumnavigation on our sailboat. So, join us as we construct our cat by starting with our design and construction video series about out future boat. Sevgiler. Avare.

Pads for handrails and hatch coamings go onto the house top, then primer coats of paint are applied. Larry Kindberg from Accutech Marine Propeller brings the Variprop feathering propeller to the shop. We get to fiberglassing the cockpit, which will be dropped in eventually. Bob Emser sent us a full-size footprint and side-to profile of Victoria the Tender so we can see how it fits on the coach roof. Be a fly on the wall for Aaron's smart questions—a lot of our future plans for the house top are addressed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a wooden boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. What??https://www.sailingnandji.com In this episode, we notice that the sunbrella on the headsail had been coming loose. With the biggest sail loft in the world just down the road, we take off the head sail for some simple repairs. Putting it straight to work, we set sail 300 nautical miles to the boat yard where we haul out Nandji for a world record hardstand. After sitting in the water for a year and a half, Nandji's butt resembled a reef system. If she sell's tomorrow or in three months time, the bottom needs to be done! As we are actively boat shopping, we spied an Amel Mango on the market in the marina. Even though the broker was on the other side of the country, we manage to get the keys and have an inspection for ourselves. Episode 022 Our very first sailing experience was with Captain Ted from Sailing Aitutaki who took us sailing around Aitutaki lagoon on a Hobie 16. When we decided we were going to have a trip to the Cook Islands, a sail with Captain Ted was on the top of our list. We were so excited to be sailing with Captain Ted again and getting to see so many of the remote motus within the lagoon. Join us as Captain Ted takes us around the world’s most beautiful lagoon using nothing but wind and sail to get us from one motu to the next. Sit back, relax and come with us as we explore Aitutaki’s lagoon with Sailing Aitutaki. When visiting Aitutaki, Cook Islands this is a must do! We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. Sincere thanks to Charlotte Rockstar Jones for composing and recording Te Tāiko's theme song. Please remember to subscribe, like, comment - it helps us out! After a few years of studying and working hard we decided it was time to make a change. We needed a change that would allow us to spend more time together, give us a better work/life balance, and the freedom to travel. While we still had time on our side, we wanted to use it to live rather than use it to chase money. Learning to sail was the answer. In December 2021 we moved onboard Te Tāiko, a Chico40, and since then we have been so fortunate to explore many of New Zealand’s pest free islands and its beautiful anchorages. With our love of travel and adventure, this lifestyle has enabled us to experience so much more than we could ever have imagined. From new experiences to meeting incredible people along the way, our life has been enriched in so many ways and makes us ever so more appreciative of our environment and the footprint we leave behind. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore. In the meantime, follow along with us as we navigate this new lifestyle whilst sharpening our skills exploring New Zealand waters. #boatlife #boat #travelvlog #digitalnomad #lifestyle #sailing #travel #hobiecat #catamaran

#sailing #panama #amel #boatlife #boatyard #marina #boatrepair We did not meet the friendliest of people in this episode. Linton Bay was a little bit strange and after a wild ride through the "Tunnel of Love", we found another odd boatyard in the middle of the jungle, known as "Panamarina". With very little to keep us here we rapidly moved onto the entrance to Panama Canal and the marina known as Shelter Bay which is located just near to the Breakwater and the only one on this side of the canal. We had a whole load of batteries, chargers and controllers delivered here . Getting jobs done was not so simple or affordable on our budget so we cancelled all jobs and made a quick visit to Panama City to collect Grandad . Fellow boaters - I'm thrilled to share my latest project with you: MaintenanceROS! Crafted from my experiences aboard Starry Horizons, it's designed to simplify vessel and maintenance management, making life on the water even more enjoyable. Explore https://MaintenanceROS.com and enjoy an exclusive 20% discount for the first 6 months using promo code 'outchasingstars'. Seamlessly manage your boat's upkeep – let's embark on this journey together! ***** In an upgrade long overdue, Starry Horizons gets a new set of sails custom made for her by Zoom Sails! We've upgraded from dacron to a hydranet mainsail and genoa and got a slightly lighter Code 0 as well. She will never be a true performance catamaran, but we hope that the combo of new sails and losing some weight during our refit will result in a bit more speed! Of course, you can't put new sails on the boat without a rig, so first we had to work with the yard to get the mast stepped and our new Harken furler fitted. Once again our rigger Tim worked his magic and everything fit just like we intended! ================ Affiliate Links ================ Out Chasing Stars is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com. Surviving KOMODO DRAGON encounter OUR AMAZING WEEK Sailing Indonesia Ep 184 Our sailing journey through Indonesia continues to follow in Rob's brother's footprints as we gentle sail our live aboard catamaran down the south coast of Flores Island replete with its dramatic live volcanic landscape. The ocean was equally alive with bloom of plankton bringing dolphins and devil rays to the surface to feed. Unfortunately the abundance of sea life attracted the attention of some traditional Indonesian fishermen, who prey on the devil rays. As we watched the fishermen at work Rob's attention was distracted by one of the oceans largest and gentlest creatures. A lone 8 metre Whale Shark was happily gorging himself on the plankton. Our sailing teenagers jumped in the water to get a better look. Then it was off to Rinca Island in search of the legendary Komodo dragon. The Island did not disappoint. We saw several Dragons during our stay and a whole lot of plastic waste too. Thank you to Sam from SV Allusive for the supplementary drone footage of the Komodo dragon walking on the beach and pexels.com for dragon on thumbnail Music Luna Keller - I don't know where I'm going David Mumford - Ball and chain Musicbed.comThank you for helping keep us afloat and supporting the creative process. It took six weeks for Rob and rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, to complete winning the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and his wife Rachel purchased Javelot, a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, We set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know their boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn (then 13), Declan (then 11) and Ivan (then 8), in tow. Through trial and error we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. The plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we hope to retrace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill @ivanhamill #TheCruisingKiwis
In this video, we go over the various Lithium batteries we considered before deciding to design our own prototype battery. These batteries will be used on our 50' Hybrid Performance Cruising Catamaran, called S/V Lynx, as Captain Blood and crew sail around the planet on a circumnavigation voyage. But first we have to build out kit catamaran. We will then sail our custom built DIY catamaran to distant shores as we cruise and adventure on the sailing boat we are constructing after having collaborated on this new Solitiare 1520 model Schionning Designs. www.svlynx.com 0:00:00-Intro - Shipping of Kit Delayed! 0:01:56-Title 0:05:39-Battery Chemistry 0:09:50-Prototyping our Battery 0:18:17-Building & Testing 0:20:15-Battery Wrap-Up 0:20:27-Shipping Woes Option 0:21:13-Viewer Questions 0:23:18-Patron thanks and Outro

We build an integrated diesel fuel polishing system in our sailboat's engine room by utilizing existing filters and plumbing. To so so, we simply branched off the return line, installed a fuel pump and a few valves, and then plumbed back into the return manifold. This simple set up not only allows us to polish our diesel fuel, but it also provides the ability to pump diesel fuel to and from any of our boat's 3 fuel tanks. ~ Ben, Tambi, & Molly | "SAILBOATSTORY" Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE and join us every FRIDAY for a new episode! Enjoying Modern Life? Thank A Machinist! - Episode 244 - Acorn to Arabella: Journey of a Wooden Boat
Join us for a visit in a marine propeller shop, where a CNC lathe and other specialized tools are used to machine our propeller shaft. At Accutech, https://accutechmarine.com/, we walk you through the process, and show off some other very cool things they're able to do in the propeller shop. We also hang the rudder for the first time in its place, and get to see what it all looks like. It's a big reveal! As is the view from the inside as the sealed, faired, painted, routed, then painted-again overhead of the cabin trunk is put into place on the cabin house. Then the cabin trunk is fiberglassed, effectively making what was once strips of cedar, inappropriate for planking or other parts of the boat, one solid piece of waterproof, composite material. It is now monocoque—the outside of the soft cedar has been transformed into a structurally hard, durable, easily maintained surface. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a wooden boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat Referral: Please consider using our Total Boat referral code—they send us 10% of your purchase to support our videos!
