A different kind of video this time. We are getting Nova Vita ready for the 2024 season and there are always jobs to be done...... This time we thought we would film something different for you...READ ON... Changing the coolant pump on a Volvo Penta MD2030 is a meticulous but manageable task. Here is a brief description of the process. Begin by disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery to ensure safety. Drain the coolant from the system. You can suck out most of the coolant using a vacuum pump. Suck it out of the header tank and from the heat exchanger when the cap is removed. This will leave about 3 litres to drain via the plug. The coolant will 'mostly' go into the space under the engine, the rest will go into the bilges. Next, undo/remove the hoses and belts connected to the pump, taking care to note their positions for reassembly. Unbolt the old pump, being mindful of the position of any retaining bolts or brackets. Clean the mounting surfaces thoroughly to ensure a proper seal for the new pump. Install the new coolant pump in the reverse order, securing it snugly but not overly tight. Reattach hoses, belts, and any other components removed earlier. Refill the cooling system with fresh coolant, following manufacturer recommendations. Finally, reconnect the battery and carefully inspect for leaks before running the engine to ensure everything is functioning correctly. We are not mechanics but will tackle jobs that we believe to be within our capabilities. *If you are not sure about a job then our advice is to leave it to the professionals.* We found the job to be fairly straightforward but a little awkward at times, the drain plug for the coolant being particularly tricky. The crow's foot spanners and the universal joint made undoing this much easier. Windlass series...This is Part 2 of 3 of the WIndlass removal, repair, and install. In this episode we go through the process of the rebuilding the deck where the old windlass was. This process took several days as we had resin and epoxy that had to dry between layers. We also had to have a machine shop fabricate us a stainless steel plate to mount to the top of the deck. Slowly it is all coming back together but we had no idea how big this project had become. At least our existing deck had no rot or delamination anywhere. Watch our next video where we hope to get our windlass installed and operational. #sailboat, #Diy, #diyboatwork Special thanks to Apple Machine and supply for all your help in figuring out exactly what we needed to be on top our deck for the rebuild. They were great and affordable plus very quick turnaround. https://www.appleindustrialsupply.com/ The West System epoxy came from West Marine. The JB weld resin and the epoxy paste were ordered through Amazon. Thanks for watching! Please Subscribe to help us continue our Adventures!! Introduction to our channel on sailing, galley cooking, and many DIYs.
Hey everyone! In this video it becomes clear just how unqualified we are to be running this 51ft sailboat. We have engine problems we need help fixing, we can barely get off the dock (we almost crashed into another boat), and we even run aground. Phew, trial by fire am I right? Although we have a lot to learn in the world of boat ownership and we are INTIMIDATED. We're learning everyday and things are getting better. I can't wait to read your comments on this video! You're anchored off a remote island in a faraway country and you've had a system failure, what do you do? How do you source an engine part? Maybe you've run out of fuel for the boat or the dinghy. Has the impeller crumbled, the windlass broken, or the sail ripped? Do you have a replacement? Maybe the autopilot's given up. Now imagine you're running out of water and are low on food basics. You are somewhere with no phone or internet access and there's no-one ashore. How did it get to this? What do you do? What did you forget to do? We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Check out our website to know more about it https://www.oddlifecrafting.com/blog We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. Episode 047 Welcome to our first Sunday snapshot where we share with you shorter videos detailing smaller boat jobs we are doing or general tasks that we do aboard our sailboat. In this video, Adam upgrades our lifelines which we think might be as old as Tāiko. We make the decision to remove the very old stainless steel lifelines and exchange them with dyneema which is approved by New Zealand's CAT 1 regulations. Sunday snapshots will be posted on alternative weeks to our longer feature videos. Let us know if there's anything you would like to know about what life aboard is like for us. We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. Sincere thanks to Charlotte Rockstar Jones for composing and recording Te Tāiko's theme song. Please remember to subscribe, like, comment - it helps us out! A nomadic duo who traded land life for a life on the water. Follow us to see what we see and what it's like living a nomadic lifestyle. Currently exploring New Zealand but a big adventure is coming soon! In December 2021, we moved aboard our sailboat Te Tāiko, a Chico 40, and we have been fortunate to sail to many of New Zealand’s islands and anchorages. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. Our plan? We try not to make too many plans but plan to do blue water cruising. Whilst sailing New Zealand's northern coastline, we're completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements. In the meantime, follow along with us as we navigate this lifestyle whilst sharpening our skills sailing New Zealand waters. #boatlife #boat #travelvlog #digitalnomad #lifestyle #sailing #travel #sailinglife #newzealand #sailingnewzealand

It took six weeks for Rob and rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, to complete winning the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and his wife Rachel purchased Javelot, a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, We set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know their boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn (then 13), Declan (then 11) and Ivan (then 8), in tow. Through trial and error we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. The plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we hope to retrace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill @ivanhamill #TheCruisingKiwis

Maiden voyage: The Beginning of Our Sailing Story - Just building BareBare - Ep 20 In this episode, we complete the rigging process and eagerly hoist the sails for our maiden voyage. A gentle breeze, leads our little ship and her crew silently between the Islands close to her homeport at Bygdøy. BareBare has her own mooring close to all the museums at Bygdøy. We pull her closer to the pier with a rope and this way we can easily hoist sails and other equipment on-board. The area of Bygdøy, close to the Norwegian Maritime Museum, Fram and Gjøa Museum and maybe the most famous on The Kon-Tiki Museum is a very beautiful area. We are a short ferry ride from the centre of Oslo and close to some lovely little islands; Hovedøya, Lindøya, Nakholmen and Gressholmen. A few of the islands even have small restaurants that we can visit. The local tourist boat has even started sailing close to BareBare, telling her story to tourists. We finish the leather work in this episode on the fork/boom using copper nails. The oak has gotten many layers of varnish. Our steering position is down towards the heads, the toilet - in one of the two toilets this exclusive little boat is so happy to have! We have a nice day on the fjord and in the afternoon, when the wind slows down we row her back to the buoy. About Building Tiki 38 BareBare ⛵⛵: Join us on our adventure to construct a simple, budget-friendly catamaran designed by James Wharram. While the weather’s cold, Steve works on any projects he can. The most important task? Saving the ice cream in the freezer. The Sea Frost is on, but the freezer compressor isn’t turning on due to a buildup of ice. The probe that controls the thermostat is covered in ice, preventing the compressor from running when needed. While it’s never a good time for melting ice cream, better for this to happen now than during the summer. At least the cold weather outside can double as a temporary freezer. Steve removes the ice and makes sure all the pieces are back in place so he can enjoy his mint chip ice cream. Steve also works on installing pulls for the floor to access the water tanks and bilge pumps. The deck gets a touch-up as there were some leaks recently during a night of rain. And Steve spends some time in the engine compartment tidying up the gas lines before tackling another project on the to-do list. While the fate of the label maker may have been uncertain, it seems that this device is imperative to the “honey do” list and lives to see another day. Get a glimpse of a typical morning on Arabella. Robin tends to wake up before the sun, and usually has a few hours of work done before Steve wakes up. And it wouldn’t be a typical cooking experience without Akiva right there by the stove, ready to eat some bacon. -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! We're replacing our chainplates to update the rigging on Anticipation! Chainplates are a critical piece of sailboat hardware, when they fail the mast can come down. It's a safety issue for sailors that can strike without warning if you're not careful. Do you know what your chainplates look like? It can be such a simple job to replace them, there's no reason to let them get this bad. Make sure you subscribe to see more of this restoration of our Gulfstar 41 sailboat! Volkanik ada Nysiros'u boydan boya birlikte gezeceğiz. A nomadic duo who traded land life for a life on the water. Follow us to see what we see and what it's like living a nomadic lifestyle. Currently exploring New Zealand but a big adventure is coming soon! In December 2021, we moved aboard our sailboat Te Tāiko, a Chico 40, and we have been fortunate to sail to many of New Zealand’sislands and anchorages. #boatlife #boat #travelvlog #digitalnomad #lifestyle #sailing #travel #nomadic #sailing #bigstep #sailingnewzealand #newzealandsailing #shakedowncruise #newzealand #sailingnewzealand
This week, we continue work on the daggerboards, working on the important spines where the main strength of the boards are found. We also take a break for some crew health work, and go mountain biking! We have to stay in shape for when we take our Schionning Design Solitaire 1520 custom cruising/performance DIY catamaran on a sailing voyage around planet Earth. AN INNOVATIVE YACHT OF OVER 12 METRES The Dufour 41 has been designed with a new look that focuses on the outdoor life on board. Aboard this cruising yacht that’s over 12 metres in length, the cockpit volume is comparable to that of a much bigger yacht. In creating this boat, the Dufour shipyard has gone a step further, guaranteeing great sailing thanks to the know-how and the experience of its teams who sail with passion. The Dufour 41 marks the new Vintage, bringing modernity, abundant light and many innovations, all while preserving the DNA of the Dufour brand. She offers well-designed spaces for easy movement on board in complete serenity.
In this video we are racing to finish the final touches on our sailboat renovation project. We set up shore power, finally align the engine, finish the B&G electronics, and provision. After replacing our fuel injectors and fuel lift pump, we thought we would be in the clear with our engine, but oh were we wrong. #catamaransailing #leopard48catamaran #sailing #sainteanne IMPORTANT TRIBUTE: As most of you know, we regularly produce videos of our travels. This one happens to be about our time in Sainte Anne where we spent a signifiant amount of time with our dear friends Kathy Brandel and Ralph Hendry from SV Simplicity, the two sailors who were murdered on February 18, when their boat was boarded by three escaped criminals. We can't express our grief enough but wanted this to be a tribute to the wonderful people they were. Sailing to Sainte Anne After spending a week in all of the Martinique west coast Anses, we left Grand Anse early one morning to sail to Sainte Anne. It was unusually cloudy and rainy but sailing in it was better than sitting in the anchorage in the rain! On our way to Sainte Anne, we had hoped to stop at Diamond Rock to snorkel, but due to the sea conditions, we made it a drive by. Diamond Rock is a 574 ft tall uninhabited island located south of "Grande Anse du Diamant”. At certain times of day, Diamond Rock reflects the sun so brilliantly it resembles a diamond sparkling. After arriving in Sainte Anne, we anchored and set off exploring. Our first stop was Pirates Beach & Restaurant. Great food, a floating dinghy dock, water toys, and of course Pirate Lore. And we spied a Kontiki looking boat - everyone knows that story right? A bit further down the beach was a park and a great place to go for a swing. That night, we hung out with fellow cruisers, Kathy Brandel and Ralph Hendry. We met them last summer in Block Island NY, and loved hanging out with them. Even partied with some locals. That night, the view of the lighted bay was a sight. Some rainy days kept us on the boat for a couple days. So, we filled the time with boat projects and I caught up on some work. After the storms, a boat anchored behind us hitched a ride with a tow boat. We notice they were anchored far out. Must have sailed in without engines. We did manage to do a major stock up trip in the town of Genipa, a modern new mall with the largest Carrefour in Martinique! $1254 Euro! Yikes. Better last us a few months. We did two fantastic hikes from Sainte Anne. Pointe des Salines The first was to Salines Beach - we did the shorter 7 mile round trip all day adventure, instead of the 13 mile loop. Fascinating plants, a beach stop every mile or so - some nude, great views, and a reward at the end you will need to watch the video to see. During the hike, we also saw a worship hut - small little devotional niches where you can offer a prayer. We saw these not just on the hike, but also in the town. https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/martinique/le-marin/sainte-anne-pointe-des-salines-baie-des-anglais The second was a hike with Kathy and Ralph to Savanes de Petrifications , one of the oldest parts of Martinique. The area looks like the moon! Desert sands contrast with the rest of island. Multi colored rocks are strewn around. It is located on the site of a very old volcano of which the Morne des Pétrifications which rises to 119 meters is one of the remains. In front is the Table du Diable, a huge rock that has risen from the waves offshore. https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/martinique/le-marin/savanne-via-sentier-des-caps That same day, we toured the Trois Rivieres Rum Distillery. It was a historic tour of a non-operating site. It included a rum tasting and we could not resist a little purchase. Steve and Robin are eagerly anticipating some warmer days, but—until then—there are plenty of winter adventures to be had. Now that the sail covers are installed, Steve laces on the sails. Once Arabella goes out for a sail, the last few adjustments will be fine-tuned. There's still work to be done, but it’s good for now. As avid outdoor enthusiasts, Steve and Robin always find time for the outdoors, whether biking, climbing, skiing, or running. In this episode, they check out the Badlands trail in Yarmouth for some mountain biking that is supposedly unlike anything that’s ever been ridden before. It's important to carve out time for self-care, even though it's never easy for Steve to pull himself too far away from Arabella! We also circle back to the state of the Spectra water maker issue—after being a bit misguided as to which model water maker would be a good fit for cruising, Steve finds himself needing to engineer a solution that won't break the bank—water makers aren't cheap, you know! Turns out, the water maker worked fine over the summer in warm waters, but it couldn’t hold up to the sub-40º water temps typical of a New England winter. Rather than spending $9,000 to buy an entirely different model, Steve’s fix will be a lot cheaper—he'll "simply" replace a few parts of the pump and, voilà (we hope)! Of course, it wouldn't be winter in New England without a snow day tucked in between a few spring-like days. While Steve may be hoping for a few inches of snow, he’s also hoping it doesn’t stick around too long. Can you blame him? This is Arabella’s first real encounter with snow. The storm may have brought about some shoveling, but the reward was a day spent at the beach, basking in the sun on a 28º degree...in a snazzy new chair ;-) Life on a wooden sailboat is all about embracing the changing seasons...but Steve and Robin are pretty ready for this one to exit stage left! #yelken #sailing #meksika #travel #gezi Neredeyse 1 aydır Meksika - Isla Mujeres’teyiz. Ömer Öcel’in yüzündeki gururu görmelisiniz. Ati gazını kontrol ederken kacak olabilir dedi. Şimdi buzdolabı tamirinde yeni bir dünya açıldı önümüzde 🙈 Bence bu gidişle yeni bir buzdolabı alırız 👍 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Instagram'da bizi takip edin / sailing_istanbul Neredeyiz görmek için https://share.garmin.com/istanbul Facebook'ta bizi takip etmek için /svistanbul
